Matt Garska has to be added to the all time master list of drummers. To say he is otherworldly is an understatement .... sheeeeeeeeeeeeeesh.

For me, Vinnie Colaiuta is the complete drummer. Total control over the instrument, and always the total understanding of the piece of music that he is playing. This way he can reach another galaxy. His playing style is just phenomenal in my opinion.

Vinnie has that rare skill of being able to blend insane chops and high energy drumming into an articulate musical flow, all in one phrase. He is the master of flow. Combine that with his now legendary sight reading skills, and you have probably the greatest session (live + studio) drummer of all time.

A lot of drummers play drums, Vinnie plays art because he is the personification of art.

As far as I’m concerned, his most brilliant work was done on Joe’s garage Frank Zappa that’s where I became a fan. What an amazing session drummer.
