I worked for Evinrude in the 70s when they still built good motors
I own a 1978 85hp rude, never has let me down. Slurps fuel like my pickup lol but purs like a kitten once warm and sounds beautiful opened up on my old bowrider ski boat from 78 to match
Too much talking.just show us.
top speed ?
Depends on how many beers I have but fast enough to be a safety issue on my 12ft boar
A 20ho carb around the similar year will pop in there, with minir tuning you get some extra beans out of it. I will die with my 2stroke outboard
Dad used to have one of those. I miss that sound.
I lost my Dad in 2008. Miss him everyday. Glad you enjoyed it.
Odd no mention they are 2 completely different blocks! you can hear the 1992-up one sounds throatier because well.. its a bigger block. if you rebuilt the 83' and got it properly bored and new pistons, they are actually quieter (especially the 1986-up ones with the updated muffler and plastic top carbs) than the top mounted starter ones at nearly all speeds.
Good information! I love the feedback, as you learn more about the things that matter to you. Thank you for the comment.
Engines for the European market were manufactured in Belgium as early as the 1970s. They were still good. Sometime in the 1990s, OMC engines came from Hong Kong and I don't appreciate them.
was just gonna comment this. Hong Kong i believe was just the little 2, 2.3, 3.3hp motors I believe but the real blunder was Mexico! Getting all those parts made and shipped down there especially the gearcases cost alot more than just making them at the factory like they used to. big mistake trying to outsource.
Need more facts checking
That's one of the best small outboard engines ever built.
Nice old Evinrude 15. Hang on to it for life!
Well..... Rocking of the boat is called ROLL, deviation from course to either left or right is what is considered to be YAW
Much more well spoken than me! Yes, a great motor alway got me home safe.
Ever did a speed test between the pair? Be interesting to see what one is faster??
Nothing official but the 1993 seems faster. On a 12ft boat it’s all relative though, both seem fast
Had both in the 9.9. Loved them both and reliability can't be beat
You find these haven’t run in 20yr motors and they fire right up. You will pay a premium for a nice one these days Thanks for the comment
Funny how the 'new' one is now over 30 years old! But also it's great that you have both of these. I think the plastic cowling is what makes the newer one sound so different.
Hey! I just watched your electric outboard video! Shame about the price, or I'd use it as my main engine on my sailboat.
no lol. the 1992-up is a completely different larger block.
always fun to see a fellow boater with small twin engine setup)
Same to you! Life is too short to delay having fun. Thank you for the comment
Evinrude used to be the standard for Marine engines, somewhere along the way they lost that title to Mercruiser. I think their lack of promotion of horsepower killed them. They went with their reliability thinking it would work like it did for Toyota. Unfortunately, boats are not like cars and most people get bored with the hassle of owning one in a few years and let them rot. The point being that most boat owners want power and speed not longevity out of an engine.
Well said. Never thought of it in those terms. It’s strange that I am a Mercury guy but wouldn’t trust my life to them. I would have an OMC from this era if my life depended on it. I am a saltwater small craft advisory guy not a weekend warrior. Thank you for the excellent comment
The cowling is a 1980. In 1979 cowlings were blue and white. Nice video
Thank you. I was told 1979
Great motor had one for 25 years still ran great 👍
Зачем это??
Dug it out of a basement. The engine was frozen solid. Took it all apart and surprised to see good compression. I got spark and off it went

Hello from Poland. I have exactly same Honda from 1990. Its problematic to purchase narrow size tires in recommended speed index now. Mine has 38 thousand kilometres on clock.
This is my first experience with a sport bike so I take it easy. No problem finding parts for these old Honda’s here in the States. Poland seems like a nice place, lots of history!
Where did you get the highway/crash bars?
You can order them on Amazon/ebay etc. They are very easy to install.
I grew up driving this motor, and by that point (90's) it was already 30 years old. When I used it it was on a 6 foot dingy. Enough to bomb around in without going super fast as a kid. I do believe it finally give up the ghost about 10-15 years ago (I haven't seen it anyways, unless it's in storage) but I always thought motors had "faces" on the front, and that one was quite distinctive :). We had a 90's era 50 hp as well that looked like a transformer to me :)
Old Mercury’s to me are pieces of art. They are getting harder and more expensive to keep running as the years go by. You had a great story, and glad you liked the video!
💕Wow💛💛💛💜💜💛💜💜💜
my son is out camping and had crab for breakfast
Man I love this video. so cool to even own those three, let alone have all three running, let alone all three running on the same boat! i've only owned ski boats but things like this really bring out my admiration for small outboards. cheers from southern California.
Glad you liked it. These old Mercury motors in particular are getting harder to keep running. It’s was fun for me to make it and I have lots more to show! Thanks for the nice comment.
Absolutely beautiful bike. I have a yzf-r15, it's not a big bike but man i sure have a thing for fully faired motorcycles!
Thank you. I love the paint scheme, very clean.
Great video. Amazing bike. I bought a 1988 Suzuki Katana in blue/white. Paid cash. Loved it. Old school all day.
I was 19yrs old in 1987 and dreamed of owning a super bike like the Hurricane. Better judgment got the best of me back then. Glad you liked the video enjoy your bike I’m sure it’s nice!
thank-you kind sir. my son is making some crab snares that you cast with a fishing rod. free bait is exactly what my wallet needs.
If you didn’t change the impeller you should, they do rot
It’s in the plan this summer. Not a big deal for me as I have done hundreds of them. Thanks for the comment!
Hi thank you for the video, is it normal to have water coming out of exhaust on 9.9 4T 2014 Yamaha? It is about 1 ro 3 drops in time of 1-2s when idling on about 1080 RPM
Yes, you should have some water coming out of the exhaust. The stream coming out of the engine is just verification you have water flow.
Had the little 3.0 in our ‘94 SeaRay 170. Not the fastest boat on the lake but super dependable and I did like how easy on gas it was.
im trying to collect as much 2.5l and 3.0l parts as possible right now, i like the sound of that sucker getting up and going and at $2.20 liter cant go wrong with a 4 banger
I agree, Mercruiser knows how to make a durable four cylinder engine. I would buy another one with no hesitation.
السلام عليكم ورحمه الله وبركاته ❤ من مصر أم الدنيا ❤ ضيف جديد على قناتك احلي الاشتراك والايك ❤ رقم 1❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have the same engine. Very clean unit with no spark. Great looking outboard motor!
Check your kill switch, clean gap points. If no luck get some new coils and condensers. Thanks for watching glad you liked it!
Looking good 💯
Très magnifique
If u lift the big motor out of the water the little one wouldn’t struggle so much and u get so much drag in the water
I was thinking the same thing after the fact. I usually just troll with it, so I just did my normal routine without thinking. Thanks for the comment!
good video thank you still sounds like a two stroke to me looks like it has lots of torque.i would like to have a look under the cowling cheers
Hey this bike looks great! I am restoring the exact same one now, was looking for some help identifying paint color. Were you able to identify it?
The first year 1977 had two colors available 1. Emerald Green 2. Candy Apple Red. I posted another video that shows the bike better if you need some reference. Thanks for the comment!
Very nice looking classic motorcycle. I bought mine new in 1979. I still have it. This is the way they need to make them today. I bet a lot of people would buy one. Good luck with yours.
Thank you. I agree perfect power to weight
I had a KZ 650, had Kerker headers and rejeted carbs, not how you spell it I know, was very loud and FAST ! Raced a Vet, top speed was 132 mph. Wish I still had it.
Glad it brought back good memories for you. I had a 1979 KZ650 back in 1994, then the babies came and off it went. This is a good replacement for me.
Wow, classic. Nice.
Thank you, glad you liked it.
Thanks for showing your bike to the world, a beautiful example of an original KZ 650 , it must be one of your prized possessions.
Thank you for the nice comment. Glad you liked it!
Impressive. To me this is the perfect engine size. Don't see a reason to go over 750, but seems to be a fad nowadays.
You are correct weight and bulk can take away from the experience.
damn dude slow down and save some poonani for the rest of us thx
5.50 is pushing it, maybe!
Guaranteed to make you thirty for a Pabst tall boy for sure!
Exactly what I was thinking 😂
i work around mercury engines at bass pro and i could tell instantly by size alone that this wasn't a 550 hp engine 250 hp out bored engines are massive in size im a 320 pound man and they are bigger then i am in size now imagine a double the size of a 300 pound man that would be the size of a 550 HP motor
Dunno why boat engines are so big. Bike engines make 300hp in the same size as a 20hp boat engine :D
@@vihreelinja4743Same thing with car engines, most only make about 200 but are 4 times the size of the same output bike engine. Revolutions and compression ratios. There are V4 evinrudes that look as small as a motorcycle engine running on some hydroplanes, they sound ridiculously good too.
my parents got a 9.9hp at their cabin, its tuned to 15hp, whats the difference between the motor they use, and the 15? is the 9.9 just a 15 thats limited?
Yes. You can re-jet the carburetor or just purchase a new one for the 15hp, bolt it on and you have 15hp. Identical motors. Keep the cover as anything over 9.9hp needs a license Good luck and thanks for the comment!
My youth was putting a 1958 35 Johnson on an 8 foot pram. Holy crap we nailed 2x4s on the transom to the front gunnel to hold it on the pram and fly it did, Literally ! this was in about 1972
Good memories for sure, get yourself a boat and do it again!!
When I saw the thumbnail with these three engines I knew I would hear the sound of a three part harmony.
Thank You! Glad you liked it. It’s getting harder to keep these old Mercury engines running so it’s nice that folks appreciate them still.
