Love the TN!
Funny to see how much quiter the post '55 engines run with the redesigned exhaust compared to the pre '56 green ones
awesome collection, love the video
Love those old Johnson motors! It was hard to see through all the smoke, but it looked like the water pumps were not working. Was your water level a little low? Thanks for sharing.
@@brianbowman1148 All pumps in good working order. All but the white one have new impellers. The thick omc rubber splines makes them sturdy and durable. Thanks for watching
Outstanding, thx for sharing I can totally relate to all of your experiences, my Uncle worked at the Bremerton shipyard he was a sailor in WW2 in the pacific theater , him and my aunt had a place on the beach in Manchester /Colby right next to the old ferry dock he had a few old outboards in the basement we would take out and run, I remember a 5 hp 4,stroke a 55 hp homelight/ bearcat 4 stroke and several johnson and evenrude s late 50s and early 60s ..great stuff seeing these motors you keep in running condition..thankyou for all the work in taking these videos and the time to edit, the haters don't understand these antique motors and with the history that comes with them especially being around the small outboards as a kid.
@@ShawnBaker-xx3gz Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate them!
Those are tough old motors, my uncle had a small collection as well we Salmon fished around Bremerton, Port Orchard and Manchester. Always enjoy seeing all the old outboard reminds of great times as a kid.
@@ShawnBaker-xx3gz Glad you liked it. Good to know people enjoy my videos and bring back memories
Excellent 👍👍.........
Was there ever a doubt that these great old engines would fire up??
Yes
@@OutboardMotorFun Well, I had no doubts...
No.
Put a T on the pressure side and directly to the carb on the other
What a little 💎 gem !!!!
@@nikoskag816 Good for another 60 years!
Looks great man and sounds awesome.
@@JBOutboards Thanks, someone cared for this engine. You can really tell when they have been hammered on and worn out, this one is tight.
High thrust is for a kicker. Not for speed.. cool video. But not accurate
@@DanielSWOOD-d7o Well at least I made “Cool”. Glad you liked it Thanks for watching
RARIDADE DE 2CILINDROS
They are just as good as other brands in my opinion. Can wait to see yours on the water.
Looks like a lot good fun, I live on the Olympic Peninsula looks like this isint to far away.
@@ShawnBaker-xx3gz East side of Oak Harbor. Not too far in the big world
@OutboardMotorFun outstanding..I like it up there, Iam a professional mariner some times we use the shipyard in Anacortes for winter maintenance great area.
I also wanted one of these. I used to see them on a couple of lakes. Loved their sound and low profile cover for fishing.
@@edwardmurphy-1153 They are actually tiny motors. Looks like a toy next to the OMC 5hp stuff
Nice vid, i go crabbing from utsalady just south west from where your at
@@williambrieske4106 Nice! See you out there this summer.
Nice water out there! I have 3 identical but older trolling motors I want to try out on my 12ft aluminum. I will try it on fresh water though.
@@kevingordon1312 As we get older, a nice sunny calm cold day has to be enjoyed even in winter. I alway try to have fun. Get those engines out ASAP!
Awesome video. Looks gorgeous up there
@@Gnarz1234 I am vest lucky to live in this area of the world. Glad you liked it!
Listen to them "roar"! Yeah buddy!
Better in person. Nice harmonics to them.
What a fun video. Thanks
Your welcome!
That 3 horse never had so much fun in its life. Lol. Very cool
Nice to cheat old man winter and be on the water!
You found another 5 1/2. Hey, I have a chance rite now to buy a 3 hp Johnson 1957 just like your red one. The guy said it needs points. That's what he said, as long as it has good compression I can get it running. Mainly i what it for a wall hanger. He wants $350.00. I don't know, I would prefer to have a small 1957 evinrude like the ones you had, that why I asked if you still had them, I asked you about a month back or so.. Can't believe you sold them.
@@TJD656 All these OMC parts are cheap on eBay. Me personally wouldn’t spend more then $100 on a working one, but if it’s nice and original just have fun if you can afford it
@islandtoybox it's on craiglist, not to far from my house. But, I don't know, not the one I really want. It's a clean motor, like if someone had it in the closet it's life. I'll probably hold off for a 5 1/2 - 57 evinrude. The reasoning, my dad had a 35 hp. 1957 had some good times. Man you get the deals, we don't have to many around here because of the heavy salt water. They corrode if you don't take care of them.
Awesome Thanks for making this video. I love these old motors. I just finished up a 54 Johnson 10hp and now working on a 56 Johnson 7.5 hp. They are amazing motors. Beautiful sounds
Stop before the addiction starts….its a great hobby especially when you can save a throwaway motor from the scrap pile. To me it’s rewarding to practically gift it to someone in need or who wants to learn about these engines.
Thank you! I have a T120 , 2024 DGR , thinking of putting on a crash bar !
It’s a good safety feature both for the bike and your legs. No brainer for me!
I been obsessed with outboard motors my whole life since i was a liite kid. When i was real young my dad had a duracraft with the 20 mercury think it was a 1976 then in 94 he got another duracraft with a 25 Evinrude that he still has now i got a 18 foot alumacraft with a 115 Yamaha 2 stroke 2007 model that still runs like new. But your collection is awesome i like the black one with the blue trim it reminds me of my dads 20hp he had long time ago it looks identical
@@DustinKeating-yk3vq It’s a good relaxing hobby. My collection is very small but I use all mine…Once you learn the basics of engine repair you can find free motors all over the place and fix them easy.
tell me if i am mistaken but from my research the K in kz means it was assembly in Nebraska I own a Z650 that was with some of the first with double 00 in the serial number, explain if you have better knowledge of the whereabouts not disagreeing with you or being critical just seeking knowledge!
@@Generalleeawesome KZ was meant for the North American market. The K was European. This bike has a Made in Japan on the frame. They started to make then in the states around 78-79 I think. This bike landed in Long Beach the fall of 1976
@ Again where are you obtaining this information? My restoration manual published by Chris Rooke states that the K in KZ “differentiate between the motorcycles made in japan with the K added they were generally made in the new plant in Nebraska,USA” . page 9
@ The K was bikes designated for North America, drop the K and they were for the European Market probably emissions stuff. My info came from the family of the original owner who picked up the bike in the port of Los Angeles Long Beach and the fact the frame plate states “built in Japan” There are forums and FB groups that could give you all the info you need. Maybe I am wrong if so, I apologize
Hey, do you still have the little Harley.
@@TJD656 I have a model 125 and a Model 165. Some people call them Hummers but that model came later then mine. I keep them as wall art but they both run
@islandtoybox yes sir, I was just asking, we had talked about your harley hummers a year ago or so, You thought me something I didn't know that they made two models. Now I know. Thank you, keep up the good work.
Where is this? Looks absolutely beautiful!! 😍
@@tobibl6538 It’s close to Seattle in Puget Sound. Thanks for watching
Please use your Kill switch on your arm or life jacket. As a commercial boat captain, I have rescued too many skippers that fell out of their boats because they did not wear their kill switches, some boats were lost on the rocks as well.
@@1jacquesnel Thanks will do.
I'll take the 93 it would probably make my 14' Lund scream! I'm running a 1972 Johnson 20 on it at the moment
@@willssmallenginerepairllc5060 The 93 is a much faster motor but more complicated to work on.
Great
Thanks!
Cool! Glad it worked out. And yeah, this engine is crazy complicated to sync properly for sure. I think that plastic top on the carb has been replaced before, only because it has the newer style idle mixture screw on the side of the carb instead of inside the air box where you can't get at it.
Love it! Great video
I have a pair of 35hp’s, one is a Johnson and the other is a evinrude 35hp, both are 1978, would like to get them running just need carb work
@@johnbreland4099 Carburetor work can be an masking issue. Always start with compression check, then electrical tune then carburetor. Things will calm inline from there. Good luck
Good stuff mate.
@@kodibassInsideoutboards Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Wow, these are so cool. My dad had a red Johnson 7 1/2 that looked like the green 5 1/2 .. Those were such great motors.
@@MrNorm-lr5iv Very well built motors and easy to work on. There will still be millions of these motors 50years from now.
@ the retro old motors literally have a personality or face on the power heads. Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame exhibit in Hayward WI has huge display of these. It’s an eerie feeling walking the past history of where these came from. The stories they could tell if they could talk.😂
THAT WAS COOL! ME,,,,,,, ILL TAKEM,,,BOTH!!
Move gas tank as far forward as you can, it might almost Plane
Beautiful bike. I had one new in 89. I’d love to find a clean one. I missed out on one last year.
@@race929 Thank you. I looked a long time for it. Hard to find good plastics but the custom seat sold me.
Merry Christmas. Great video
The red one should be a 1958 johnson 3 1/2 hp.
Nope, red one is a '57 3hp, not a 3 1/2 hp, Johnson never made those. Green one is a '55.
@@VintageOutboardManare you sure, you are correct about the hp. But, now the year, didn't johnson and evinrude in 57 had the letters written in cursive and only in 57 then in 58 they went back to block letters. That is why I said a 1958. Let me know I'm not that old and can't remember 66 years ago. I was still in diapers. lol
@TJD656 You're partially right there. Evinrude had their cursive style in '57. Johnson had it in '58. In '56, Johnsons were red top to bottom. In '57, the cowling was red with white (white bracket and top), and in '58 they were white with red (red bracket and top).
@@VintageOutboardMan ok, basically it was opposite on the johnson. Q.2. Didn't johmson have a fuel pump on the motors first and was that in 57.
@@TJD656 Both Evinrude and Johnson switched to fuel pumps (instead of the pressure tanks) in 1960. I believe the fuel pumps were first tested on their Gale production line in about '58 or '59, but I could be wrong there.
As Always 👍👍 ...........
The Evinrude will outrun the old Johnson for sure, but the Evinrude can never match the Johnson's idle quality. You still need to do some sync adjustments on the Evinrude, should run alot smoother. The sync adjustments are a real pain though. I will try to find the procedures and send them to you if you like...
@@donk499 I did a video and mentioned your help.I will post it soon. It was that little lower gasket. The engine runs much better but you are correct...it still needs work.
@@OutboardMotorFun Let me know if you want the factory sync instructions. Don
I find them fun too. Merry Christmas!
@@pryan05p71 You too, thank you for all the nice comments!
What was wrong with the evinrude? It’s running well now.

@@OutboardMotorFun Thunderbolt Ignition was a Name introduced in the Mid 60s, and there were many Variations in the Design over the Years, even within Model Years.
I can smell the fuel through the phone…..awesome
@@ericvonp Fish food!
Yeah, those things were never much for power or speed. But, will run smoothly, idle like a champ, for years to come PS: Did you figure anything out on the Evinrude?
