Hi, I'm Dustin. I'm on a mission to make wine less snobby and complicated.
If you like the idea of watching someone burn through all of their disposable income just to tell you what wine to buy, then boy do I have a channel for you.

Are You Paying for Taste or Celebrity? - $300 Champagne vs $30 Prosecco
Prosecco or champagne? Why spend $300 on a bottle of bubbly when a $30 Prosecco exists? In this video, I’m taking a closer look at Jay-Z’s Ace of Spades champagne to figure out what makes it so expensive.
Is it the strict winemaking rules, the craftsmanship, or just the flashy branding?
And to really find out, I’ll put it to the test in a blind tasting against Prosecco. Let’s see if this champagne really earns its price tag.

Why is champagne so much more expensive than Prosecco? From the luxurious gold-plated bottles of Jay-Z’s Ace of Spades to the affordable charm of Prosecco, the world of sparkling wine is full of questions and comparisons. Champagne stands out for its strict winemaking regulations, requiring hand-harvesting, in-bottle fermentation, and years of aging to achieve its signature flavor and craftsmanship.
Meanwhile, Prosecco uses more efficient methods like tank fermentation, making it a more budget-friendly alternative. This video explores the fascinating differences between these sparkling wines, from their grapes and regions to their production techniques.
Whether you're curious about champagne’s $300 price tag or looking for the best Prosecco under $30, this deep dive will help you understand what you’re paying for when choosing between champagne and Prosecco.

I Took On 21 Bottles of Trader Joe’s Pinot Noir in One Sitting
Переглядів 5 тис.Місяць тому
I did something kinda crazy... I bought EVERY single Pinot Noir at Trader Joe's (21 wines!) to find out if any of them are actually good. Why? Because Pinot is called the "heartbreak grape" - it's super sensitive, hard to grow, and usually expensive to make. So finding a great one under $15 should be impossible... right? From bitter disappointments that taste like "9-volt batteries blended with...

In this video, we're going headfirst into the world of Trader Joe's red Bordeaux wine, from wallet-friendly $7 bottles to wallet-crushing $69 options. By the way, this description is going to be pretty cringe, but apparently that’s what the algorithm wants, so I shall obey. Dustin here, a certified sommelier, wine sommelier, and your Wine Guy. What would *I* do with a bottle of gold-plated Ace of Spades, you ask? Throw it in my cellar near the bottom with the rest of the cheap wines, of course!
Hahahaha I love it! Gracias Tio! 🙂
This is amazing Professor McQuaide! The editing and the content of the video are so entertaining. Can’t wait to tell ppl few years down the line that my professors a famous UA-camr. Also for anyone watching who’s on the fence of subscribing, highly recommend you do. Mr.McQuaide is super energetic and kind and im sure anyone will enjoy these videos!
Aw thank you so so so much for this incredibly kind and thoughtful comment. It really means the world to me. I won’t let you down! You will have a famous professor/UA-camr one day soon!
I need help choosing wine for Christmas!
Hi there! Happy to help! Let’s use the BBQ method from my “How to Order Wine at a Restaurant” video. What is the budget per bottle? What is the background of the wine drinkers (how experienced are they drinking wine)? What qualities would like in the wine (subtle or bold? Are you open to sweetness)?
Love it professor keep up the good work
Thank you so much for the support, buddy. I really appreciate it!
He’s pretty funny, I love how drunk you got by the end of it. Plus, I know to never buy those wines now.
Hahahaha I’m glad I was able to bring some fun into your day! Thank you for leaving a comment too. This really made me smile!
Well done, funny & entertaining.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m really glad the video was fun and valuable for you!
@@wineguydustin - Cheers!
Awesome video. I appreciate how comprehensive and fun it is (like all your videos). Well done, thanks for doing it. I'm hoping you get back to another TJ video, maybe Cabs (please)? Thanks, keep up the great work.
Dude thank you so so much for the support and the encouragement! I may or may not already be working on a TJs cab video… stay tuned!
@wineguydustin Will do, thanks for the response.
Fantastic video! I’m learning so much from you. Waiting patiently for the next !
Aw thank you very much for the love and support, Momma Bear!
Awesome video. Great production quality. Really informative content delivered with humor. Thanks!
Thank you so much for tuning in again! And thank you for the encouragement! I am so glad you enjoyed the video!!
Very entertaining and proper comparison between a vanity Prosecco and vanity champagne. No question about the difference. Great video
Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m so glad the video was entertaining and valuable for you!
Love the video, can’t for next one to come out soon. I would love to one day get a beginner’s guide to varietals, cheers to you Dustin!
Thank you so so so much for the love and support! I love your idea too! I will definitely put together a beginner’s guide to varietals video! I think like “Every Wine Varietal Explained in 10 Minutes” type of thing. What do you think?
Seriously amazing video as always! I would love to see you with 100x the number of subscribers because you deserve it! I would love to see a video comparing cheap, mid, high priced wines of the same type of wine in the same region so we can understand the differences! (hopefully wines that are very easily accessible so we can taste along)
My friend, thank you so so so much for the kind words and the support. It really means the world to me! Also, I would be more than happy to make this video! I think it’s a great idea for a series! I am curious, what do you think should be the max prices for cheap, mid, and high?
@@wineguydustin I think something like $10-25 for cheap, $25-50 for mid, and $50-100 for high!
I appreciate how you teach us without over complicating the information. I actually learned a lot from you today! Great video!
Aw thank you so so so much for the kind words. I can’t tell you how much they meant to me. I’m so glad the video was valuable for you!
When you removed the blindfold, how did you know champagne was on your left? Was it written on the base of the glass?
Basically, yeah! I put a little color coded sticker on the base of the glass so I knew which one was which!
I thought it was funny that Cristal sales INCREASED after the whole hip-hop boycott. It helped Jay-Z to sell his champagne, and it didn't hurt Cristal, so I guess it was a win-win situation.
Just another example of “there’s no such thing as bad press,” huh? 🙂
Have you tried Cristal. It’s actually very good! Made by one of the best champagne houses, with one of the best chef de caves at the helm. The rappers only drank it because of its price and unavailability, it is a stunning wine. They don’t know what good wine tastes like. Yeah it’s great for the brand but it doesn’t dilute how good this wine actuallly is. The current vintage is 2015, hence the price and the acidity is razor sharp with richness behind it. Get a grip. And how to compare a $300 bottle of champers with a $30 bottle of Prosecco. Click bait. Stupid American.
Loved this! Super interesting to learn the difference between champagne and Prosecco. Best explanation I’ve seen so far!
Aw thank you so much, darling for being so supportive. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have you as my wife 🙂😘
Wow, that was very interesting and I truly was surprised, that you we're this euphoric with the Jay-Z-bottle. But you have a point in describing, what a bottle of this appearance can mean. Im looking forward for the Champagne-Video 🤩
Thank you so much for the kind words! I honestly was surprised too! It was WAY better than I expected. They are genuinely running a top-shelf operation over there. I can’t wait to share the champagne video with you too! Thank you for being a part of this wild journey with me. I can’t wait to see where it goes!
I ran out to Trader Joes and bought a bottle of Chateau Tayac based on your video, I thought it was superb. Unfortunately when I went back for more they didn't have any and I was told it was only available for a limited time, wish I'd have bought a case.
I can’t tell you how much the comment meant to me! It’s super nice when people comment about enjoying a video, but you actually went to the store and bought a wine based on my recommendation! Even more - you enjoyed it! That’s incredible! Thank you for sharing this with me. It means the world to me!
Love your videos, this was fun
Thank you so so so much for your support! You’ll have to let me know if you decide to take the plunge on a bottle of Ace of Spades 😬😬
@@wineguydustin well I did pay Total Wine a visit after watching your video, and they had it there for $269 a bottle, but went for a more affordable Champagne instead.
Cases of gold plated bottles of wine? I am a 50 year old man on a fixed income, born into a life of Lone Star beer and trailer parks who has never purchased a wine that cost more than $30,not for lack of want,I am just forced into QPR... All that said,a case for me,a few to give away, find a way to sell the rest, lol.
As the son of an auto mechanic living in Texas, I feel connected to a lot of what you shared! Although, my Dad was a staunch Miller Lite guy (without exception lol). I think this is the most reasonable use of the cases of gold plated bottles we’re likely to hear. Stick with me though, my friend. As this thing grows, I promise I’ll find a way to get a few higher end bottles of wine in your hands! I definitely want you to have a chance to try them!!
@@wineguydustin lol, yep,Miller lite is another one I saw/see everywhere.. Awe,that is so kind of you to say,I'm not going anywhere, this is a great channel.. Also, another quick question.. Being a Texan,I can't help but snap up inexpensive Texas wines whenever I see them but tbh I have disliked most I have tried.. I am sure there are many really good wines made in the hill country at higher price points but are there any Texas wines that are worth trying that are A- fairly easy to find B-decent if not good I realize that the answer here may well be no..
Nice, wasn't expecting the journalistic deep dive which was done very well. Sense of humor is fantastic as always. However 36 months lees ageing and hand riddling doesn't explain a 200$ price tag, this is quite normal in Champagne. Palmer & Co brut reserve is 36 minimum and is like 50$(I recommend this btw if you like big creamy champagnes with like 8gr res sugar). I am sure Goldy's quality is legit as you say but the winemaking specs on their own don't really explain the price tag for me. For 200$ you can buy Krug... KRUG!!! :P Roederer vintage is also fantastic value premium Champagne, around 75$ I think. I totally understand your point though that JayZ's bubbles are a product that has real craftsmanship and thought put into it while the other bottle is just a gimmick. The real issue here imo is 30$ the prosecco which is not even particularly well made. That is an 8$ wine being sold for 30$ because of an ugly bottle. It makes me sad that it exists hahaha. Excited for the Champagne video :)
Dude you are supremely knowledgeable. And even more, you have exceptional taste. Krug is hands down my numero uno champagne. It is simply magnificent. It would go beyond an A and is definitely S territory. I hadn’t ever heard of Palmer & Co! Thank you a million times over for the suggestion. I’m ordering a bottle now! I can’t wait to try it! And I totally agree with you about the Prosecco. It is truly low-rent wine living in a pricey, downtown high-rise.
Another banger!! I Purchased my first Champaign the other day.. a cheap one I got at Aldi (Monsigny $30). Have you had this one? Will this purchase give me an idea of Champaign or did I go too far down the cheap ladder? Monsigny is made for Aldi by philizot & fils,in case that helps.
Aw buddy, thank you so much for the kind words! I am beyond excited that you found it to be a banger! I’m so happy to hear you picked up your first champagne! As for your question, not at all! That’s the beauty of champagne! Since the wine laws are so strict, the minimum quality is really high. So it likely is a great option! In my experience, the more expensive champagne tend to behave like more expensive liquors. In other words, they become smoother. Champagne can be a little bracing. It has a lot of carbonation and minerality. Higher priced ones tend to manage both a bit better by providing you with smaller, more delicate bubbles and a bit more roundness from oak again. So if you don’t like the Monsigny, it’s still possible you will like a more expensive one. And if you do like the Monsigny, then you definitely will like the more expensive ones! You have to let me know what you think of it when you try it!
@@wineguydustin thank you,I definitely will.
So glad to see a new vid! Have honestly been waiting for it. Haven't watched any of the vid yet, i'm predicting JayZ's Champagne to be very expensive for the quality. :) Edit: 1 min 20s in this is not going where I thought it was, am super intrigued hahaha hype is real.
Dude I am so so so beyond grateful for your incredibly kind words. Thank you for your support! It means the world to me!!
great video, was in the grocery store with my girl today and was wondering if id find anything ace of spades quality lmaooo
Thank you so much for the kind words!! I am definitely covering a few grocery store champagnes in the part 2 of that video, so I think you’re going to have your answer very soon 🙂
I like your video. Will you review Trader Joe's Italian wines?
Thank you so much for the kind words! Also, I have great news! I am going to make your day in about 1 month. My next TJs tasting video is ALL Italian wines!!
Entertaining. The only wine we buy at Trader Joe is Vino Verde.
lol I’m learning that might be the only safe bet at TJs 😬
The prices are all over the place. I can't justify drinking the more expensive stuff anymore, unless i already know the producer.
Amen!
Kind of like bad desert that isn’t worth the calories, free wine that is bad is not worth the headache and indigestion unless maybe you need to forget something in your life.
I totally agree! That is an excellent metaphor! Sometimes free wine, like dessert, just isn’t worth the calories.
no way this guy only has 500 subs
I fucking love you
I have tried several of these wines, and I agree with almost every word. most of these resemble cough syrup. and none of these wines actually impress. trader joes excels at cheaper italians and portuguese wines. some of the GSMs are worth seeking out. don't touch any of the more expensive Bordeaux ($20+) wines. simply not worth it. it's unfortunate that the more expensive wines don't over-deliver at trader joe's. never buy pinot from this place. it's just a good rule of thumb.
PREACH! 🙏 I’m so glad you had a similar experience tasting these wines. I feel like we should get “Never buy TJs Pinot” tattoos. You know just a way to never forget our shared trauma
Liking your videos! Would love to see a video of some recommendations of really good value wines to bring for the holidays at different price points. Not necessarily from anywhere specific.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m actually releasing a video soon about the Top 5 wines under $10!
Good material in the video, unfortunately excessive & unnecessary entertainment.
I’m glad the video was valuable for you! Unfortunately, my friend, I am a bringer of fun. There will always be excessive & unnecessary entertainment in my videos. It’s who I am!
I'm looking forward to your content. I love learning about wines from everywhere but it is difficult. That is one of the reasons I travel: to learn more about different cultures and wine.
Wow! Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm so glad to hear you enjoy learning about different cultures and wines when you travel. I have been considering a segment where I do a travel show to a wine region like Burgundy. Would that be interesting to you? Do you have any suggestions on what would make it a good video? Thank you so much!
@@wineguydustin Videos about travel to wine regions are great. It would especially be interesting to learn more about how to actually visit other wineries in other regions. It's easy in the US, but not as easy outside of US.
Interesting video; hope your channel has lots of success! Would recommend a little bit of summary at the end but looks like you got wined out.
Thank you so much for your encouragement and for the great suggestion! This is probably the #1 piece of feedback. I will definitely be including conclusions at the end of my future videos. Thank you so much!!
Awesome! Look forward to it!
Hi this is a greeting from Taiwan 😊 ! I like your channel 🎉
Wow! Thank you so much for the warm greeting! I am so grateful for your kind and generous words. I appreciate you tuning in so much!
I just found your videos. Thanks! I hope you’ll get around to pulling together a collection of Costco Bordeaux to review.
Thank you times a million for tuning in! Thank you too for the awesome suggestion!! I would LOVE to do this. Consider it done! Definitely a 2025 video for sure!
Great video but please add a conclusions part at the end so I can see which wine you liked the best.
Thank you so much for your support and for the great suggestion! This is probably the #1 piece of feedback. I will definitely be including conclusions at the end of my future videos. Thank you so much!!
OMG I know exactly what you’re talking about re: Westin scent! I see many others have already written what I was going to write. You’re a great personality for UA-cam with the knowledge to match. Keep going, I think this channel will grow quickly :)
YES! I’m so glad I’m not crazy on the Westin scent! It’s pretty memorable! And thank you so much for the encouragement and your vote of confidence!! It means the world to me!!!
Nice vid! This should've been named "Sommelier ranks funky Bourdeaux wines" :P
hahahaha it’s never too late for me to change the title of the video!
Nice vid! Would you consider rating the wines in the 100 point scale or even the 20 point one that Jancis Robinson uses? Letters doesn't seem enough for rating, you said it yourself, there is a whole range inside each one. Cheers from Argentina!
Thank you so much for the kind words! At the moment, I’m intentionally trying to separate my rating system from the 100 point scale (and even the 20). The reason why is that I just think it’s the sort of thing that makes wine inaccessible to non-wine people. I mean it just sounds nuts that someone can taste two wines and say with confidence that this one is a 95 and this one is a 94. My bet is this makes non-wine people feel intimidated! They may think that they too should be able to tell the different between a 95 and a 94 just from a few sips. Instead, my goal is to communicate to the audience levels of quality not necessarily each individual step of quality. I think the letter grade system does a good job of that because we all know an A is a range of scores. But ultimately, I do feel like something may be missing from the ratings still. I’d love more suggestions especially if you may have some thoughts on how to communicate levels rather than individual steps in an easy to understand way!
you actually drank every wine and didn't spit?! props lol
So I did spit off camera, but actually the correct method is not to completely spit out all of the wine. The correct method is to reduce the amount of wine that you ingest by spitting. This is important because you do need to drink some of it to give a full review of the experience of drinking the wine. In an ideal world, one would spit out about 75% of each taste. But I always err on the side of booze so I try to spit out half of it or less!
I’m shocked by the quality of this video. I’m assuming 100k subs by next month!
You truly just made my day! Thank you so much for the encouragement and support! It means the world to me!!!
"what makes this soooo, pretty good"😂😂😂
Hahahaha it was like I was channeling Hemingway or something!
I'm so glad I found your channel... you are so refreshing to watch... and I love your humorous way of describing your distaste for just how gross the wines are. Freakin amazing😊
Aw thank you so so so much for the kind words! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!! I’ve got another coming soon about champagne. I hope you might check it out too!
You are punching above your weight with the video quality. Your channel will grow in no time. Good luck!
Your comment made my day! Thank you so much for the vote of confidence! It truly means the world to me!!
Man, your comments are hilarious, sorry you had to withstand so much suffering. I’m not a big pinot lover, but was curious to hear your take on the Belle Glos Alturas. I agree with your rating. It is bold and concentrated, unlike the delicate and supple Burgundies, but it has character (and does not smell like butthole 😅). Helping you to get to 3 subscribers! Cheers!
Dude thank you so much for the kind words and I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and my humor! It’s pretty weird to sit alone in a room just talking out loud to nobody about the wines you’re drinking. It definitely feels like “is anyone going to even watch this?!” So I’m incredibly thankful that you tuned in and even more that you liked it! Now onto subscriber number 4!

Great reviews. I worked at TJ’s for my last 10 years before retiring, and I specialized in wine. You are correct…most of those TJ Bordeaux wines were Meh. Before I retired, I bought a few bottles of the BEST Bordeaux wine TJ’s carried (IMHO). It was Chateau Gloria Saint-Julien. Nowhere on the label was “Grand Cru Classe”, but it was better than the other Grand Cru wines I tried.
OooOoo thank you so much for sharing! I haven’t tasted Chateau Gloria Saint-Julien yet! They have it at my local Total Wine. I just added it to my cart so I can pick one up the next time I’m there. Thank you for the recommendation! I’ll find some way to get it into a future video!
