Two of my favorite movies of all times are alien and aliens they have a strong female character and i love the way she acts in those films she is strong in her own way and none of the men are pushed to the side on her behalf they are strong characters for the most part she was less affected by the by seeing the aliens because she has seen them before and everyone else was unfamiliar and that is the reason she is strong compared to them and then in the end of aliens she protects a foster daughter just like a regular mother or father would she never put men down because they are men but that they don't know what they are getting into and are unaware of the totality of the situation

Have to give M4 (Alex) props for salvaging these films. I originally watched the first one in theaters, I was annoyed, irritated by the call backs to LOTR and over the top comedic bits that I didn't bother to go back and watch the other two. By accident I came across Alex's fan edit and many ppl saying its the holy grail of Hobbit edits, and how the film should have been in the first place...a faithful adaptation of the Book. I was like ummm...I thought...let me see if Alex cooked here. I have movie projector at home, and being projected onto 100 inch screen. So it was like going back to theaters and giving the film a second chance. I have to say...gawd damn Alex! Props you've been able to salvage this film. Its true when I heard many say that there was good film in the 10hrs of footage. Its a shame we didn't get this cut of The Hobbit in theaters. Instead we got those dumpster fires to make a cash grab. Seems now that I'll have to watch The Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy. Appreciated the idiotic call backs and subplots being cut, and also inclusion of film grain to make the film feel more cinematic than cheap and tv like production. 5 stars for me.

And when it comes to women in Fantasy- or SciFi media... there are no "normal women" in there. Almost never. There are no working women with or without kids just leading a normal life, doing the dishes, cleaning the house, doing laundry, all after work. Nor are there men. Characters in such media are by default heros and therefore exeptional, in which way ever. And that is okay. No one wants realism in Fantasy or SciFi.

I have been watching a lot of the named critics for a while now.. and I have to say, sometimes the "woke bashing" gets a bit tedious. I prefer my media politically neutral, I don't need US politics or culture wars or stupid stuff like that. And it is in there a lot. Most of the critisism it correct, but often the arguments vear off in a ideological or political direction. If they want to praise capitalism and harp on about how poorly men are treated, they should do it in a seperate video.

As you said, this is not well written and so, no, I don’t come away from this thinking “wow, these three masculine characters were so inspiring as they acted with agency and moved the plot forward, I agree, Hello Future Me!” (Whose channel I usually love, btw) - I come away from the episodes thinking “uh… did the writers really just make this character an idiot for the plot??? What!?” I love that you’re not afraid to approach this tv show as what it is: a tv show. Not pretending that every action we see on screen was “done by the character” but rather acknowledging that it was written by a scriptwriter, and seeing how that works (or doesn’t work) in the narrative. LOVE your videos, and I’m so glad you’ve made this one too.

I'm at the subtext bit and I have to say: if part of your audience does not understand the subtext, then part of the audience will drop out or have reasons to criticize it. It is up to the showrunners to make the subtext clear to the audience, it is not the audience that has to bend over backwards to make it make sense.

You bring up a good point. I think I’d prefer if the Harfoots were all black hobbits. I think it’s more believable that thousands of years before LotR, species weren’t very diverse especially when living on different hemispheres of Middle Earth.

The "Influencer" and "the influenced" view has gone too far and wide at this point, I believe. I myself watched this show, and saw the many faults on its storyteling structure, editing decisions, the episodic structure during the season, partition of story parts and portrayal of characters. In almost every aspect, this is, UNFORTUNATELY, one of the worst tv products Ihad to endure. I endured it because I read Tolkien before there were movies and a fan base, It affected me as a book, and I watched this show up to my breaking point. I don't really care about political manifestos, modern approaches and whatnot. But to claim this tv product has any merit in it other than VFX team's efforts, is I take as an insult to my intelligence and dignity. That is not cool. I understand that by being mentioned by name, you felt you had to react, and maybe you did to protect your image, but I am just sad as this all madness came to being as a follower for years, of both channels. The movie exorcise pissed off a lot religious people back then like they was sending death threat to the actors and the producers because a the evil devil they was portraying in the movie vandalized a god statue . Regarding the "white" orcs. I believe the show runners themselves at one point said that orcs are "black coded" or something so they made the orcs white to be less racist. Which is a ridiculous misunderstanding of both the PJ Films and Tolkien. Basically this dude ignored what the show runners said in order to make the "Woke Bros" look worse.

Random Film Talk's analysis of Rings of Power is on a completely different level compared to most other critics. I started watching Rings of Power dunk videos because I was so frustrated that the show didn’t meet my expectations-I had hoped for something as enjoyable as Peter Jackson’s films. I don’t blame Amazon or the show’s creators for failing to meet my personal expectations, but now that I realize I probably won’t ever see a new Lord of the Rings show or movie that I truly enjoy, it’s led me to channels like this. Random Film Talk (on his main channel) has shown me not only the depth of media analysis, but also how entertaining it can be to watch hours of storytelling breakdowns. Sadly, most of these have been about a lore I wish I could have enjoyed watching. On the bright side, I got to watch Arcane before diving into the analysis on his channel-thank you for that unofficial recommendation.

Thats a pattern for many left leaning UA-camrs that know what Hollywood Producers IS Shit but they agree with the political messaging in them, which IS only in my political opinion a Bit silly but to each their own. You Always have this with them they critize the EXACT SAME STUFF Like every Other critic but Always followed Up by "that doesnt mean the Message IS Bad ,i dont hate the minority Here pandered too" which IS also what the "rightwing" critics say but followed by a bashing of "rightwing" critics to make it absolutely clear to their Guys that they arent Like the Bad "rightwing" Guys . This IS Like a Ritual to Not Be Banned by their Side for critizing woke aspects of the movies they Just tapdance around IT three Times over only to say the Same Thing the evil "anti-woke rightwing incels" are saying

I'm sorry, but as a female fan and viewer of many of these channels (including yours) I don't think the message of "girl bossing is bad for society" really comes through those channels' videos. I'd say "girl boss" understood as the only acceptable female archetype portrayal is very harming, boring and shallow to girls and women is more like it. It's not that you can't have bad-ass women, it's that the toxic way is the only way. They not only do that in SF/fantasy/comic genres. Recently they butchered a beloved Jane Austen heroine: Ann Elliott. She has a different type of strength and many women can relate to her. But no, we're not allowed a heroine who doesn't fit into the modern mold. Netflix is threatening to make their version of Pride and Prejudice and fans of Jane Austen are already worried. The only difference between that corner of Internet and the ones that HFM is mentioning is the way dissatisfaction and disappointment are expressed.

As someone who watches shad a lot. He definitely dose not hide that he is a Mormon. Also shad and the others actually liked arcane. And that had a women beating up guys twice her size. The reason why they like arcane and not rings of power is simple. Arcane is really good, men are competent, the main character isn’t a marry sue.

Ah you must watch Us by Jordan Peele and then watch Drinker’s review. I think that was the first time I was really disappointed by bias.

This feels like a case of "We're all speaking English but nobody is understanding each other" kind of issues that tend to come about because of youtube's format not being in real time for discussions. I think HFM is saying "Observations are not the same as criticisms. Or, more so, just because this show has black elves or women present throughout, doesnt mean it will be bad. And I think that some of these channels with legitimate criticism of the shows are also mixing in observations that don't impact any part of the story. And then it starts to feel like a political argument vs a discussion of the shows merit." But I'm not sure he quite got that point across properly. I think HFM is hoping for people to remove political points entirely from a criticism if it has no point in being in the criticism of the show. So like, Deesa just existing isn't a valid complaint but, like, certain characters having bizarrely aggressive plot armor or acting like assholes for no clear reason people will start to wonder if the writing is being impacted by the writers inability to create convincing characters and/or use a crutch to give us a super hollow shell of a character in the hopes of giving people what the writers think are good characters with a diverse audience appeal. Which is when people will most likely stop and think, I feel like these writers are trying to force something on me and are doing a really bad job at it There's a lot to parse out with nuance here that rides a really fine line here. And I think the worst part is largely that (probably) the main reason why media controlled by billionaires are currently appealing to a more diverse demographic is because it's a calculated money making decision. Maybe not to get as many eyes on the show as possible alone but likely to get as many people as possible to like their brand. For example, a woman might hate RoP but at least now knows that Amazon platforms women, in their eyes. Disney is no different. These corporations only care about these things if the team of actuaries calculated that they should. Across all avenues. The sad part is that it kind of feels like this is all just done with the intention to keep us all fighting with one another rather than realize these corporations just love money. I'm joking on this point, but i honestly wouldnt be shocked if UA-cam paid Amazon/Disney 500 million or whatever to keep making shows strictly so video creators keep making videos and new creators take the plunge as well to keep more advertisors happy and bring more eyes to the platform. Two parties don't like a piece of media and it's largely the result of media corporations not giving a shit so long as money is made and attention is garnered. And unfortunately, as a result of these companies trying super hard to make money, it has created issues of people feeling like they are constantly either being pandered to or preached out. Im not sure anyone, on any side, really feels happy with whats going on with these cruddy garbage media products and i guess it's just kind of sad that nothing will change because strawmen just get tossed around to ignore actual issues on every side.

I agree you don't fit in with the rest of these guys he compares you to in the sense that you don't focus on social issues in your critique. I'm disappointed that you don't seem to want to separate yourself from them and even defend drinker. I hope I don't see you go down the paths these guys did. I don't personally have an issue with you being conservative if that's the case, but if it infects your criticism then it will become completely irrelevant to me, just as these guys are.

Oddly enough, if I recall correctly, Ben Shapiro did talk about Rings of Power, & was FAR less critical of it than the guys being discussed in this video - at least on agenda-pushing grounds. I think, again if I remember right, he complained about the stupid things in the show - like blowing up a volcano with water. But, he didn't spend much time talking about political messaging in the show.

Only 30 minutes in but have to comment, I'm getting really sick of HFM constantly saying it's 'young men' watching these videos as if no other demographic could possibly be interested. Like, if you say it once or twice that's one thing, but repeatedly disregarding the possibility that anyone else is a regular watcher of these channels he's critiquing is pretty irritating.
