These are the reasons the MLS is completely fine. 1. The Salary Cap. Could it be a bit higher, yes. But this is the one thing that stops clubs to overly spend on players. It keeps every team competitive and ensures every team actually has a real chance of winning. Just look at how many teams in the NHL, NFL, MLS, and MLB have switched winning teams over the years. A team may win 2-3 times in a row but that's it. 2. No promotion/relegation. The reason I say this is for 2 key reasons. Firstly, it would be hard for a smaller club to be able to even play in the MLS due to the Continent-wide travel that you don't have to deal with in England, which makes change really hard to adapt too. Secondly even with divisions, having too many like 4 isn't an option as Traveling the Mississippi river is way different than traveling the entire 38th parallel. Plus, the fact each state could be considered a country. It also makes sure nobody tries to spend SOOO much just to collapse after failing to be promoted or getting relegated. It's happened more often than you think 3. The way the USL is set up now. With the MLS being a relaxed league, an experience like no other is offered in the USL. Changing the setup with Pro/reg would hurt either USL or MLS teams a lot. Plus, the fact teams in the 2. USL are semi-pro and college. It wouldn't make sense at least right now to change the system when the players in the 2. USL wouldn't be ready for the USL and how the USL and MLS clubs would be dwarfed by one another due to the league culture practically being opposites. The change at least for now, doesn't make sense.

If LigaMX keeps wrecking MLS teams in CCL, i am sure at some point they will reach a point where they will get rid of the salary cap. Specially with how FIFA is planning the World Club Cup to work. MLS pride will be hurt when the entire representation of Concacaf is LigaMX.

MLS will never allow that. The only system i can ever see realistically coming up in the USA, Is making MLS have like 60 teams divided in 4 Conferences (East, Midwest, West and Canada) and even more if football explodes in popularity. Its kinda funny, but MLS is following the opposite path the Brasileirao followed. The Brazilians started as Regional Championships, eventually turning into a National League. But the USA will start as a National League, but as the sport gains popularity it will inevitably be divided into multiple Conferences. I do expect like 20 years from now. That the teams on the East Conference wont ever face the teams in the West Conference until the playoffs. In fact a system like that would be fun to watch. As regional rivalries would truly spark. And the playoffs would also birth Elite National Rivalries. Basically making MLS a League with like 4 Leagues within. The USA is a huge country in terms of size. So imagining a 60 or 80 teams league divided in multiple conferences doesn't sound that crazy.

The cap is a huge problem for me and another not very many people mention is how the MLS is constructed like NFL/NBA. I absolutely hate East vs West they have. It should all be 1 category where the team with most pts at the end of the season is MLS champs. Bc rn ATL is one of THE worst teams in MLS but if somehow they manage to get to #10 poof it was a successful season( just bc they make the playoffs which shouldn’t be a thing) as for Pro/Reg I want it badly but every USL team would need to build a stadium just in case they get promoted.

MLS will go to 32 teams. I believe San Diego is the next addition to the MLS summer 2025 which will make it jump to 30. Then 2 more teams will be added between the WC and 2030. Believe a 4th & 5th Canadian team will be the last 2. NHL NFL supports 32 teams. Whilst NBA and MLB have 30 teams but are in discussion for expansion to 32 each. So i can see the MLS moving to 32 aswell. 16 per conference.

Just keep the MLS the way it is. It’s doing fine. It takes time to improve and the MLS is slowly improving.

mls can't have promotion and relegation, since owners of teams own the league, i think usl should have promotion and relegation and be a mls competitor in the us

I would have 12 team prem, 12 championship west & 12 team championship east. 4 x 12 team conferences at league 1 level and 8 x 8 team conferences at League 2 level.

The good thing about MLS is the fact you don't see teams passing back to the keeper. It's about going out to score . Also a different team winns most seasons. Which is nice .

I use to be critical of the MLS system, but now I can see why it makes sense in a way. The US is not just a country like England where Chelsea and Spurs can exist in the same location, the US is a whole continent so travelling end-to-end week in and week out just wouldn't work. I remember Pirlo having similar complains about the unusual long distance travelling. So this system work cause East Coast vs West Coast is already engrained into US culture, so it's better to create a league around that system since it's a proven formula that works.

Would this be possible to upload for FM24? Or would it be way too much work?
