Переглядів 845 тис.17 років тому
Ladder 1 venting the roof at a working fire in a 2 1/2 story wood frame in Paterson NJ on 4/7/07. They were ordered off the roof by command as heavy fire blew through the vent hole they just cut.

    Very effective vertical ventilation. That vent hole is doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

    Zrobili otwór aby oddymić poddasze, ale gdzie prąd wody mgłowy celem gaszenia ? Nie widać że gaszą po klatce schodowej od środka. Dostęp powietrza szybko wzmocni intensywność pożaru.

      They’re making a hole so fire will bleed so they can use water. If the inside of the house is fully ingulfed and the outside it’s not you can’t go in. Huge risk.

    I thought firefighters used wooden ladders. It wouldn't take much heat to collapse an aluminum ladder.

    • @dietcoke759
      @dietcoke759 3 роки тому

      wood is also flammable

    • @ralphaverill2001
      @ralphaverill2001 3 роки тому

      @@dietcoke759 Yes. wood is flammable, but it maintains the strength of the unburned wood even as the outer part burns. Aluminum loses all its strength at once when it reaches its rather low melting point. That’s why most fire trucks used to have only have wooden ladders. Also, wood is a poor conductor of electricity. A fireman’s ladder might easily come in contact with overhead lateral electrical conductors while fighting a fire. You wouldn’t want to carrying an aluminum ladder if that happens.

    • @25mfd

      San Francisco fire dept uses wooden ladders... the only dept that i know of that does... and mainly for the electrical issues you mentioned

    • @darylmorning
      @darylmorning 3 роки тому

      No you vent to remove heat and smoke, as hot air rises and with smoke being unburned material in the air it follows the airflow. Without trying to second guess this incident commander it looked like they were trying to vent a very "hot" fire to get heat out of the building.

  • @BigButtocks967

    Brave yes but also utterly idiotic to trust the edge of the roof to hold your weight like that.

    When you send 3-4 guys get on the rooftop take about 5-10mins destroy the roof ....instead using that time to spray the water inside the house...with the water pressure can spray more than 50ft away

      If you can't see inside due to blistering hot thick smoke, best way to get rid of it is to make a vent hole in the roof. Smoke clears, temperature drops, easier to get in and quench the fire.

  • @davidlang1125

    Stop playing last man off the roof. Being heroic is not what the job calls for. Being professional means every man off the roof pronto. Not every house is worth saving. Too many firefighters have suffered injuries or lost their lives due to poor decisions in situations similar to this. No heroes please.

    Iam not a fireman but I can’t tell this just plain dangerous to be on a roof during a fire!? Cave in is eminent, and or to fall thru a weakened roof into a blazing inferno. Not sure what the pros say but this just seems all wrong....

    • @JulesBauer8364
      @JulesBauer8364 3 роки тому

      i am not an expert either, but i do know a little. what they’re doing is vertical ventilation, they cut a hole in the roof to help control the fire and ventilate the structure from smoke so that the conditions are safer and more manageable for the firefighters going inside to attack the fire efficiently. what they’re doing is normal and quite common, but in this situation, conditions may not have been as closely monitored has they should have, or it was just an unexpected growth of the fire that they had no control over, so they adapted their plan and got off the roof. hope that helps

    What is the need to open up the roof??? Is it to feed the fire with more oxygen?? To expose fire men to high risk or what??

    • @f1retrain
      @f1retrain 3 роки тому

      Opening up the roof makes conditions better for the interior attack crews by letting heat and smoke escape from the structure.
