Heritage Listing in Brisbane/Queensland/Australia Explained - types, criteria, & examples
Heritage Listing in Brisbane/Queensland/Australia Explained
In this episode, I explain the different types of heritage listing types in Australia, from the World Heritage List to the Queensland Heritage Register to Local Government heritage lists, such as the Brisbane City Council Heritage Overlay.
I discuss what a heritage list/register is, why we have them, how we decide what places to list and then work through each type that affects houses, buildings and places in Australia. I also narrow down the only two types that are likely to relate to your Brisbane or Queensland house.
If you have any questions about heritage listing, let me know in the comments and I will do my best to answer them for you!

Just checked out the BCC site and there is a lot of great info there. Was checking out pre-1911 houses in the Sandgate area, and there are only about 10, if that. So considering there are so few left I was horrified to see when looking on street view that two of those pre-1911 houses have been recently demolished. 79 and 81 Loftus street Deagon.

Listing can be a pain. We have seen glorious houses rot, when redevelopment is denied. In some cases it is "eminent domain" by stealth.

Hi Maryanne. Just wondering if you have any information on a house in yeronga called Eversleigh? It was my grandfather’s home and it was eventually demolished. It was once owned by famed architect AB Wilson. Sadly we have no information about it, but I know they used to have tennis parties there. Any information would be helpful, or if you could point me in the right direction to do my own research. Thanks. Clem

Idk why youre talking in a prejudiced way "rich white guy" *scoff* whats wrong with that? I'm guessing you hate his skin colour since apparrently racism against "white" people is okay. Clearly he was accomplished which is something to be celebrated. I dont care whether someones a man or a woman but you seem to be looking down on the great men who built this country and ironically the homes you now make a living off and the technology youre using... they also designed Queenslanders too. They wouldve chopped the timber made the paint done any electricity plumbing or masonary needed. All manually. And yet you use rich white guy like an insult? Its a bad look. I Love Queenslanders. I love history, & i love my state and being a pioneer family that has many places named after us and built with hard yakka by my male and female ancestors and they still do the hardest work aka farming to feed people like yourself i think you should really understand that homes dont give a shit who lives in them and you should keep any bias to yourself. A few friends werw looking for restoration of queenslanders i was watching your videos to see if youd be a good fit but clearly your racist sexist and noone i know is nor do they support ignorant people such as yourself. Reflect on yourself. History shouldnt be told with bias as you clearly are nor should "detectives" do anything but state facts.

I have checked the library when I have chosen paint , brackets etc during the renovation in 2003 but it is all original inside we only added plumbing and a bathroom (it had only a dunni at at the back)During the 80's and 90's we renovated three houses in Graceville ,Corinda ..now my daughter lives in a pre 1900's cottage in Oxley. We love history and preservation of heritage. Love from Stanthorpe.

……apologies’ in advance for this kinda off topic info……… The house which used to be at 142 Gladstone Road, Highgate Hill, was a very old, beautiful one. When it was demolished, I kept a pottery roof tile, which had the wording, ‘Marseilles 1911’ on it. I know the house next door, at #138, is still standing, but has had two huge renovations done to it, in 1967, & mid-2000’s. The cement, posts’ under house, were put in by my father, & grandfather in the late 1950’s. There maybe still some timber posts kept, too. It was a beautiful property, with huge rose gardens’ at the back. They all went in the earlier restoration………

People who live in Dutton Park call Deighton as in "die", long i sound. And Tillot is stressed on the second syllable as in tiLOT. It would be nice to know where Lindon House was located - the home of Lot 190 on that map and the street it was named after. The house named after Grove street still exists at the end of Lindon.

@@thehousedetective I dont actually know the proper name for it, but on second thought, I would call it a thing that's used to sift and separate grain from smaller debris and the outer husks. The step before this is beating the heads of wheat to knock the individual grains out of them. After that, the sieve is used to sift out the small debris, and to toss the grain in the air to get rid of the husks and other light plant material. By tossing the grain in the air, the lighter husks blow away in the breeze and the heavier grains fall back in the sieve, hopefully, I'd imagine they got plenty of practice though.

No 1. is a wonderful photo. My first thought was the sieve was used to separate husk from grain, not by anything falling through but by airflow through it to blow empty husk out. But... surely chooks can do that themselves, it still could be leftover grain from breadmaking. The barrel is a hand-cranked washing machine.
