If you're feeling stuck, join this group! groups/unstuckdrummers Paradiddles used to be my least favorite thing to practice. I just didn't see the point, until I started learning how to create grooves and fills with them - ones that are actually useful and fun to play!

You got this!
Me reading the title: *having intense PTSD*
Yeah sorry about that! 😅 I used to HATE this rudiment haha
what are you favourite strategies to improve the weaker hand?
My absolute favorite is to play simple rock grooves open handed - forces my left hand (weaker) to be the anchor point on the hats! Other than that, just blast beats 😆
I've always wondered why do rlrrll instead of just rlrlrl
JAZZ
Use your wrists, no so much elbow bro...😊
Haha that’s full arm! And then more wrist action when I’m going faster. All are applicable in different situations 🙌
Is rudiment really important in drumming
I would say so - I used to find them pretty boring until I figured out ways to actually apply them and move around the kit. Any particular ones you're working on right now?
@@ashercoker5436 none. hoping to start soon They are so many of them
I gotchoo! If it’s helpful, I’d maybe start simple with just Single Stroke Roll, Single Paradiddle, Double Stroke Roll, and Flam. Everything else is (sort of) derivative of those 4.
Same as Rosanna but it has extra kicks
its gonna take a lot to drag me away from youuuu
Somewhat like fool in the rain
Definitely the precursor to that one!
This is great!
I’m glad it’s helpful! 🙏
You sit really high, what are the benefits? New drummer.
That’s a great question, the camera angle makes it look like I’m higher than I am 😂 I have long legs tho so I do have my whole kit up fairly high to make sure I can reach pedals comfortably! (I try to make sure my quads/hams are parallel-ish with the floor and that feels most comfortable for me - but I always keep the snare where I can comfortably hit a rim shot too!)
@ashercoker5436 10 4. I heard the snare is supposed to be up high and the drummer sitting low.... Haven't found the right position yet...
@marklivingston1479 some say snare level with your navel and some play it down near the knees. I’m a fan of somewhere in between and just watch your grip to make sure you’re not cramping, hyperextending, etc. It really is a fine art and it’s okay to get started and adjust as you go of course!
Basically the outro groove is a Dan Mcray the hillsong drummer always does that 😂😂😂
Yes big Hillsong energy hahaha
Then go into 12 min of spontaneous worship… 😂😂😂
Ish happens ya know
you completely changed the genre for the outro... i love it
Not true, that’s from a worship song 😂
@@ashercoker5436what song?
Some Hillsong song? Maybe a live version of Good Grace?! I need to look it up!
He ain’t wrong.
😂😂😅
Reminds me of “ for the cross “ song nice a simple
Idk if I know that one but I’ll check it out!
😂 nailed it
I’ve played at least 2 slow worship songs, felt accurate 😂
Pls.. the breakdown I can't catch the hand
Try it as R L R K then R L R L
@@ashercoker5436 ok
Song name??
It’s not an actual song I’m just kiddin around 😂
I'm here for the beat. More please
Listened to the new Blink 182 that day 😂
Nice
Lmaooo that cracked me up
Very well done lesson! Thoughly enjoyed it. Subscribed to your channel. Definitely will check in again. Thank you!! Super Helpful!!
Awesome thank you so much!!! Let me know if there’s something specific you’re working on, I’m about to cook up a new batch of exercises and things!
I notice that you look similar to the actor Martin Starr, but I guess the more fitting name would be Ringo Starr
@@greasybaffon7201 😂😂😂 I have gotten Martin Starr quite a bit. Plus Ringo is king!!!
Dark Red by Steve Lacy
What a dang song 🎶
Paltu sala
Loving this
Appreciate you watching fr 🙏
Killer groove
Got it , they're in between the snare hits.
You got it!
@@ashercoker5436 lol nice one 😅
Not sure what brought a drummer into my feed, I'm just here to let you know that I absolutely cannot tell the difference between these grooves lol
Oh haha i should have thrown the written notes up there! It’s basically just changing the bass drum pattern while everything else stays the same
Cool vid👍
Thank you! 🙏
Looks like cork, dog
Like in Ireland?
@@ashercoker5436like the kind in wine bottles just smooshed between the layers
Oh I was thinking the city 😂
Turn the camera off please, you're not going anywhere
@@Just_be_yourself109 so you’re saying make it into a podcast? I think the video helps since it’s drums, but this is a good idea!!!
hater
Hater? I hardly know er!
@@ashercoker5436 stop thinking then you're not good at it
@Aridorable109 I’m actually trying to get worse at it could you help me
Wow this is a great video. I will be watching this more than once for sure.
I’m glad it’s helpful!!! So many Tom pattern possibilities - I used to get stuck on the same 1 or 2 over and over
@@ashercoker5436 yeah me too. King of Kings is a pattern that I would like to learn but always give up and revert back to the comfortable. Thanks again
@@Attacking...Jackyl you’re not the first person to mention that song - I’m gonna listen to it!
Now that I’m listening, i did play this earlier this year filling in at a friend’s church! Hillsong right?
@@ashercoker5436 yeah. It's not a hard song to play, but for me it's hard to play note for note like the recording.
nice hat <3
Thanks! 😁
That’s actually good ngl
I’m not convinced but thank you 🙏 😂
Great drumming , fantastic song
🙏🙏🙏
I really like it I really do
Hahahahahaha me too
Please I will like you to do more on worship grooves and fills
For sure! Any particular songs you’re working on?
Love these ideas! The second one is reminiscent of Alan Dawson's "rudimental ritual" which is one of my favorite exercises to help with coordination. Great video.
That’s exactly what that’s from! One of the toughest things I’ve ever learned and I can say with 100% certainty that I could NOT play it all the way through right now 😂
@@ashercoker5436 I'm still learning it all the way through myself haha Cheers to the lifelong journey
" yeah i play a little animals as leaders"
We have animals as leaders at home 😂
You're gonna make somebody have an aneurysm 😂
Oopsie 😅
Thanks man . Really enjoy the tutorial.
Absolutely! 🙏 if there’s anything else that would be helpful lmk!
@@ashercoker5436 okay sure
My favorite song jamming on the interstate
It’s a great one!
Very cool
Thanks! 🙏 I hope it’s helpful for you!
bro 2013 hillsong is exactly that groove... forever reign vibes lol
100%!
We need the tutorial plzzz step step
Step step?!! The audacity!!!! But fr I’m working on it ahahahaha
@@ashercoker5436 thanks
Christian music has gotten so BORING
Haha! Yeah…
Explain where the change was? I enjoy just couldn't notice the subtletiness.
The way I’m counting it it’s the same pattern for 3 measures, then the 4th changes. 2 more measures of the original pattern and then the last 2 have double hits on the kick drum. I hope that all made sense!
@@ashercoker5436 I'll definitely give it a listen and get back to you in a few haha
Just the kicks i believe no? Need to really listen for it shoulda used headphones lol.. cool stuff tho!
Yes only the kicks! It’ll def make more sense with headphones
