House Opening for Solar Generator Charging and Emergency Heating
People say MY videos are shakey. I think you’ve got me beat.
I always use a pre-charge resistor when I connect a battery to my car for the same reason (!)
For camping purposes, can I use the small propane talks? Do I need a lifepo4 battery to power it? Will it work with a 5-gallon tank?
@proficient_prepper Can you please test the unit and reply here with the results for when the unit runs on battery, fully exhausts itself (like an all day power outage), and when power is restored by the power company does the unit AUTOMATICALLY turn on. There's nothing more frustrating than being on vacation for a week, realizing your UPS doesn't auto-turn-on and you are down for a week instead of just a day if you had not had a UPS at all.
Duh, then what? Is that it? Don't run with sissors?
Thanks for the video! Very informative. Regarding a 48V system - - keep in mind that a 48V system requires a very high minimum input voltage. You may not have enough solar panels and/or enough real estate to mount the panels.
Is it safe?
Se pueden conectar 2 baterías en serie Para obtener 24v?
Minis should not be paired with non minis , they have different cells and charge ,discharge, differently .
Hi could These batteries be use in a electric car, since you don’t need the cranking is used just for lighting and accessories I think, and the BMS should take care of the charging?
Cons: cells don't have case.
I just got a couple of these on black friday, my first lifepo4 batteries, but they seem to work great charging with a victron MPPT and running a 2000watt inverter!
What inverter did you get ?
Would this battery be good for a trolling motor?
It's not marked as a trolling motor battery, but since it can handle over 300 amps for over 5 seconds and it has low temperature protection, I would think it could be used as a trolling motor battery.
That is what I bought mine for. Watt Cycle is the brand I went with because of the Bluetooth function. They offer a trolling motor version, I told them what motor I was wanting to use and they told me the mini would be just fine, the TM version had a higher water proof rating and was able to put out higher amps for a short time. Minn Kota says I need a 50a breaker or fuse so I would be no where near the max output of either battery. So I went with the mini.
@@proficientprepper thanks for the reply....good to know
I appreciate this video. I am debating between 12v and 24. Starting to lean towards the 24. Can I ask do you have anything that runs on this system all the time.
I do run this 24v system 99% of the time. I power our lights. When there is decent sun, I power other things like our refrigerators and freezers and our living room tv/electronics. I do this using the transfer switch I put in to make it easy to switch between this system and grid power. I did a video on that transfer switch also. Sometimes however, if we have several dark and dreary days in a row, I have to turn off this system and go back to 100% grid until the sun returns.
I'm thinking they should just make all these LifePo4 batteries as minis. These batteries are not put in vehicles where they need to be certain sizes. So I can't think of any reason they just don't make them all as minis. What do you all think?
Some applications like battery boxes for RV's or some boats have a form factor to secure group 31 or group 24 batteries. If youve seen any teardown videos of these batteries, youll see they are pretty much the same batteries in larger boxes. I have the small 10ah version from this brand and so far its great, and if they offered a 100ah version with Bluetooth I probably would have bought it. They don't, so I went with another brand but the same size.
You should have ended the short with the pre roll. It's was far more exciting.
Have two 12v 100ah , 3 months no problems.
Glad to hear that feedback.
Thank you for taking the time and energy to film this video. Both interesting and easy to follow.
I really appreciate your kind words! It means a lot to me that you took the time to watch and enjoy the video.
Lol but it is true. That is no joke. It’s absolutely vital to staying safe and protecting your equipment.
I just connect the positive first and then negative. Never had a problem.
Just some help to those that have this unit or want one. I have had no issues with this unit in the 6 months owning one. They do have a nasty smell for about 1 month, so keep that in mind, but it smell goes away. The one flaw that happens with these units is brown outs, some not all brown outs can cause this unit to not switch over. Usually this seems to happen with Brownouts in quick secession or small blackout that last 1 second and then another right after hits again. These are the only instances I have had this unit not work as described. I think what happens is the software gets confused with such a low drop yet not fully disconnected, I have no idea if ALL UPS do this under these circumstances but this unit does. But every actual power outage or breaker trip and the unit does what it says. I really recommend this unit for the average PC user.
Thanks for that information.
you should never use rubber type gloves for electrical jobs
I built -48v DC power plants for 20+ years . Carrying thousands of amps . It doesn't just shock you , it cooks you from the inside out . Amps is what gets you .
They should call those connectors “hermaphrodite connectors” and each should be consulted with to determine which sex they want to associated with … such as male dominant and female recessive or female dominant and male recessive or “I would rather not respond to those labels”. Let’s keep it simple, and this will make life less confusing. 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏽🤦♀️🤦
😢 48 volts 😅
😂😂😂😂😂
Discount code not working
Thanks for letting me know. I will check with BougeRV, but I suspect it expired. It was working.
@@proficientprepper Thank you! We hear we may have a huge cold front coming in. Potentially no power. After living through Helene, we learned that a warm shower can save the day.
BougeRV got back with me and they said they can reactivate the discount code. But I just tested it and it's not working yet. Hopefully they will do that soon. I did notice there is a 20% off code NY20 already there if you want to use that one.
So you’re grounding it with a resistor to drain the capacitor(s)? Not charge them correct?
In this case the inverter had not been used in a long time and the capacitors were drained and had no voltage. So when I hook the battery up without the resistor the sudden flow of current causes the spark. Using the resistor just slows down the flow of current resulting in no spark. If you had very recently used the inverter, the capacitors may be still be charged. In that case, there would be no spark when hooking up the battery. You can actually disconnect the inverter completely from everything and test the voltage remaining in the capacitors using a multi-meter on the inverter battery terminals.
That is wrong. The maximum system current is the module short circuit current times 1.25. When you get the result then you can consult the chart for the correct size wire
just the info what i was looking for, thanks
I don't use a resistor. I just connect the circuit at the battery this way the wire consumes some of the current.
Great review
Thank you!
The proper term is Discharge. Not charge... Not precharge... You want to discharge the internal capacitors, by holding the ceramic housing of the resistor, and touching one lead of the resistor to the negative terminal of the inverter, while at the same time touching the other lead of the resistor to the positive terminal of the inverter.
My Eyes...
u need a fuse on the red cable to the inverter.if u get a short in the busbar the inverter cable is not protect.
Hah
That resistor should be pre install from factory in the first place 🤦
How eould you geound such a setup. I kean how eould you ground the PV side and the Battery side?
I installed a 4 breaker transfer switch into my garage using my solar generator to offset my power usage. Trying to get the courage up to install one like this in my house to offset power usage there as well. Great videos keep them coming.
Thanks!
May go bless you for teaching how hooked solar
Great step by step video for less knowledge DIY 👌
Thanks
What do you think about using this battery for other than marine uses? With its very high amperage output, it would be useful for many things.
Quite nice way to be able to move the panels for better position away from shade.
Thanks, I move them around quite often
@@proficientprepper Yeah... I plan to add some system for the first time to my house, and while it would be OK for me to have a similar system, my wife prefers all panels on the roof, OUT OF SIGHT. That is not a BAD choice, however one looses the ability to adjust them, like you can with this system.
Thanks for the video. It really helps those of us how are curious about building a similar setup without the experience!
You're welcome!
Sissylala
The #6 gauge wiring recommendation from power queen is only sufficient if wiring batteries in parallel to increase capacity but not increase charge/discharge rates, if planning to draw more than around 120A from the system you should really be running AT LEAST #3 gauge wire to connect them. Best practice is to just use the same wire, but at minimum the wire should be thick enough to handle half the overall current (if you discharge the system at 140A, the battery interconnect is carrying 70A from the first battery, then +70 from the second battery). You should still use the same wire either way though because if one battery BMS cuts off for some reason it can leave that wire carrying the full amperage until the second BMS cuts off.
Thanks for sharing!
I dont think your precharging the capacitors, but discharging them with a resistor.
Actually low frequency inverters are more energy efficient, your idle draw is higher because this is in inverter charger
Nvm you were correct low frequency is more on idle power
Hi, can this battery be charged by the outboard while the boat is moving? The output voltage of the motor is 15A! Regards, Julian
I'm not experienced with charging with an outboard. But in general Yes. Just like with a solar setup, you can be discharging and charging the battery at the same time.
lololol
He just made me close my eyes 😅
