How to paint FAUX WOOD/ TIMBER Finish - The easy way
Faux look finish on this Tallboy.
This Tallboy originally rustic timber, so therefore this made sense to me to complete the faux painted finish for this one.
Steps
* Clean the entire piece down and then scuff sand. Filling in any cracks or scratches
*Prime in a quick application. No need for a smooth application. Use a old brush like I have here. This helps to create more texture.
*Apply your base coat colour. X 2 coats. I used a tan colour this time I added a little primer to my colour to slightly lighten my original paint colour.
*I mixed my stain with a clear sealer. Initially I had used a satin clear sealer then swapped it over to a Matt clear sealer for the last two applications.
You can apply as many stain coats you like to achieve your desired colour.

Do you have old outdoor furniture laying around in your yard that looks old, grey, and weathered? Firstly cleaning made such a difference. I used Cabots deck clean which brought this piece up lovely. However painting it also gave it additional protection. The colour chosen was aimed to keep it looking like rustic natural timber Leave a comment if you would like more info. "How to UPCYCLE A SIDEBOARD" ( Fresh coastal Transformation) Before & After.
Переглядів 1962 місяці тому
This sideboard was originally in excellent condition however my customer was after a fresh vibe in classic combination of timber and white to suit her home and decor. I forgot to mention that I had sanded back the drawers just as I did the top of the piece, using Cabot's Brazilian roast diluted. I'm still learning how to film for UA-cam videos and sharing my experience's along my way 😁 If you h...

What’s in your stain mix this?
I used Cabot's stain called Brazilian Roast mixed with clear sealer
@@inspiredbycoastal would you add some extender or do you have enough time to apply ?
@@angelazguric4944 I have never used extender. 😊

@@inspiredbycoastal 🥰🥰❣❤
Beautiful ❤ you have such good ideas 😊 Have you tried anything else as a texture medium I’m thinking maybe plaster?
Thank you. Yes I have also used plaster a few times. It also works well. It needs to be sealed with a clear sealer 😊 I have a plaster coffee table on here and I will share here another video of a piece I did 😀
@@inspiredbycoastal Thank you🌸

I am from sri Lanka
Hi I'm from Australia 😊
Pls sir sent me template an size tell and long
Hand painted and sold
What a difference paint makes , definitely giving it a more modern look while still keeping the original charm 😊
Absolutely! It still blows my mind how paint can transform a piece 😀
Love the colour it’s hard to find a nice green so many of them to choose from I didn’t know we had this brand in Australia.it’s gorgeous
I love all safe green. It's my favourite 👌
What a difference 🎉
Thank you so much Katrina 🙏
What a great way to make boring fabulous..whack it with a hammer 😂..how gorgeous is that wood after 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Some lovely ideas here for the knobs , how clever putting them in boxes , I always have trouble spraying knobs 😂..
Thanks! Yes, sticking the screws with knobs or pulls attached into the cardboard makes it so much easier. ☺️
It’s stunning , not my expertise yet but loving it 🎉
A lot of time and patience required 😂
Now that’s smart
Thank you. Such a easier way to fit these 👌
I’ve always wondered if you sand it all the way back. What products/colors do you use on this piece😊🌸
I used Cabots Timbercolour paint. It's paint used for decking and furniture. I had it tinted to the colour Eastern gold which is a Dulux colour. I used this as my base primary colour. I then made a wash mix paint. You can use any white or calico colour paint. I then used Cabots stain and vanish in colour Brazilian roast. ( this also needs to be tinted at Bunnings) I diluted the stain down a lot as it's a dark stain. Hope this helps ☺️
@@inspiredbycoastal Thank you for that. I have seen you do this before and wondered about it. It looks very natural and I'm definitely going to try
@@ourhumblehomediy It takes time, and practice but it's worth the results. And you can basically use any colour base or stain colour you prefer. 👍
@@inspiredbycoastal thank you for all the help you provide for others .Is the stain and varnish clear and I need to ask them to tint it ? Do you water it down or use with a sealer as I think I saw you do on a short ? ❤ you make it look easy but I am sure it takes practise thanks xx
Where can I buy a little whitch type baby broom please 😂I really don’t know what to call it , the one I have is the size you can ride on not paint with 😂 Thank you 🎉
Thanks, so much of this teak furniture around and was wondering how to overcome the "pink" and also get a more even colour 🥰
Hi there, I hope you found this useful 🙂
Yes I wondered about this. THANK YOU. Would something like Cabothane Clear be ok to use as a sealer?🌸😊
Yes, absolutely
What colour stain has been used please? It’s a beautiful colour ❤️
Hi I used colour Brazilian roast by Cabot's. I mixed it with clear cabothane clear sealer to dilute it down
How do you put screw on handles before or after you wrap jute
I pre- drill a hole in the centre prior to applying the jute twine. Then add the screw into the drawer or cupboard into the pre- drilled hole
