I raised three step kids. I was always there for them but to their mother having married three times before the oldest was 10, the damage to them had been done. I showed them what it’s like to be cared for and loved. Whether it took hold over the mental damage their mother inflicted, only time will tell. I hope so.

My adopted Dad or My Dad because he is just that is still very much around, both parents divorced and both remarried later. My step Dad passed away a year ago and as I'm overseas I couldn't get back to say goodbye or attend his funeral. He, like my dad are both amazing men and both raised me and shaped me and stepped up at every turn. Hold onto every moment and treasure your family, blood means nothing ultimately. I feel like I was adopted twice and couldn't have asked for better parents. Love you Dad, Love you Derek.

There is nothing more beautiful than a mother's love. That said, men, in general, seem so much more accepting of another man's children than a woman is. Even my wife admits this. She came with a little boy not quite 2 years old. I fell in love with him from the start. Later, we had two more children whom my love for is indescribable. Never once did I feel any difference between the three. Today, he just turned 50, and I have never referred to him as stepson. Not even once. I married young (17) and people look at me funny when I tell how old my kids are. I can see them doing the math in their heads, but I just smile, and why not? God has given me the best 3 kids anyone could ever dream of having. I also have a son-in-law who stepped up to the plate with my daughter and her little girl. I prayed for a man such as him, and God delivered. My cup truly runneth over.

As a father of 3 kid's that aren't my blood wise. They feel the same way about me. One has his dad. But the other 2 know I am their father.

That's cringe. If you have to ask... This happened to someone i knew, and they said it was the worst because raising them was not enough now they essentially obligated him to give (step/adoptive) kids' rights to inheritance. Instead, he thought to be upfront about his will in the hope his bio kids inheritance is not contested. Suddenly, he was all of a sudden a crap dad and laid on guilt for the next few years.
