I am a Kannadiga but stayed in Maharashtra and Gujarat during my childhood. I learnt both those languages and am very fluent in Hindi. I stayed in Hyderabad and learnt Telugu. Finally i stayed in Bangalore. My Kannada was very bad. I was teased. But i made a point to learn my mother tongue perfectly. People now appreciate that. I stayed in Dubai and learnt a bit of Arabic and Malayalam also 😅. So in short, it is upto the individual if he wants to gell well with the crowd then he should learnt to communicate well in their language. Problem is this divide between North and South that we outselves create. I eould say South Indians should learn hindi and north indians should learn 1 south indian language.
