Here to talk about storytelling, worldbuilding, and gameplay, in all the games you may or may not be playing.
I seek first to enjoy games, and hope to find something good in everything I play, but I'll never ignore the bad. If you like level-headed, in-depth discussions about video games and their stories, then I think you'll find something to enjoy in every video.

Why Did Playstation Kill Nathan Drake Off?
Nathan Drake is one of the most undeniably iconic and indisputably cool characters in the history of video games - So why on Earth did Sony, Playstation, and Naughty Dog kill the character off? Uncharted 4 is a very good game, and obviously, it didn’t LITERALLY kill Nathan Drake, but close to a decade after his last major outing, and with no signs of any direct follow up on the horizon, it’s clear that the legendary adventurer is NO LONGER the untouchable Playstation Mascot that he used to be, and the reasons WHY don’t make a lot of sense…

The Strange Story Twists Of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Переглядів 52321 день тому
Throughout his archaeological career, Dr Henry Jones Jr has faced MANY different supernatural threats, and in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s brilliant story, that tradition is very much upheld, both to the benefit and detriment of the game’s narrative. In addition to being an extremely fun and immersive video game, I’m pretty sure the great circle IS the BEST Indiana Jones story we’ve see...
Everything is a Puzzle in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - Review

In Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, everything you do feels like a puzzle, and those puzzles never fail to be all at once challenging, rewarding and fun. The game is a densely packed theme park of exploration and adventure, and it succeeds at almost everything it does, I think, by evolving the mystery at the centre of its story outward, and into every facet of the world and the gameplay. Lik...
Is Starfield's World Too Big Or Too Small?
Переглядів 4,7 тис.Місяць тому
Starfield’s world is clearly too big for any one player to ever see everything - so how is it possible, then, that the game’s galaxy can regularly feel weirdly small? The huge number of procedurally generated explorable planets are frequently AT ODDS with the massive amount of handcrafted content. While Starfield does sometimes get the balance just right, giving the player access to everything ...
Why Does Stalker 2 Want Me To Die?
Переглядів 429Місяць тому
Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a game that seems intent on making the player’s life as hard as possible, while it actively works to ensure that its hero perishes at every opportunity, in every playthrough. Against all the odds, GSC Game World have delivered an experience that turns everything players loved about the series up to 11. The game is, arguably, a technical mess, but it’s also an un...

Throughout his career, the legendary game developer Peter Molyneux has jumped from controversy to controversy - but is he really as bad as some people say? And what can his games, from Populous, to Fable, to Masters of Albion, tell us about the man who found a way to make himself God? The BEST and WORST Ending In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Переглядів 2,4 тис.Місяць тому
Though Dragon Age: The Veilguard has plenty of obvious issues, the game’s finale offers the perfect mix of tough choices, engaging combat, and cinematic moments. And, while each of the game’s endings will appeal in different ways to different players, I firmly believe that the ‘bad’ ending is the best, and the ending that the game seems to guide most players toward is the absolute worst. There ...
This Is The REAL Problem With Dragon Age: The Veilguard's Dialogue
Переглядів 6 тис.2 місяці тому
There IS a very real problem with Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s dialogue, but it’s probably NOT quite what you think it is, because MOST of the game’s more obvious conversational failings can actually be explained by a single, fundamental flaw in the writing. So what are the undesirable implications of this inconspicuous writing choice? And what can we learn from analysing a single pivotal scene?...
Starfield's Greatest Faction SHOULD’VE Been The Freestar Rangers
Переглядів 1,8 тис.2 місяці тому
The Freestar Rangers should have been the coolest faction in all of Starfield, and their story quest line - during which you grav jump around the settled systems serving up justice - should’ve been a lot more fun. That said, the actual process of joining the Freestar Rangers was a mostly unremarkable experience, with a mystery at its centre that is ultimately explained by one of the worst EVIL ...

I hate to say it, but my gut feeling is that once Neil Druckmann took over at Naughty Dog, he wanted to push the DEI agenda going forward. Continuing to make games about a straight, white American man just isn’t politically in line with his vision. Same with Joel Miller.
some things I think, why would you need alll the stones, if ONE stone can teleport an entire BATTLE SHIP across the world, why would you then need 16 more stones? and also why does it stop raining? just cos the ark went through a portal, doesnt mean the rain would stop..
5:32 failed artist lmao I cracked up!
As a sidenote, I highly recommend "Terminator Resistance"! It is equally as great as the new "RoboCop" experience & you can beautifully see the overt love the dev's had for the first two "Terminator" movies! I validate your excellent idea of these developer's creating a 80's "Die Hard" game!
A well stated & perceptive take on this game I cannot wait to play! Excellent in-depth points on the numerous mechanics of the game as well & delivered in a most enticing way! You quickly gained a enthusiastic Like on your video & a happy Sub from me my friend!
I bought the Starfield Game on Day 2, mostly in support of their inclusive attitude. I liked the thought that people can choose their pronouns. Then I found out what was in the Constellation Edition, mostly the watch and the DLC inclusion once released. But mostly the watch. I wear mine regularly. It behaves mostly like a proper smartwatch, minus being able to actually answer the phone from the watch. And I love the game. It's not perfect and the Shattered Space DLC was a little disappointing, I finished it quickly. It deserved more content. And alternate endings. But it's still a worthwhile game - I'm closing in on 1500 hours played.
While I like that Starfield's main quest stands alone itself, I do miss that intersection of factions that Morrowind and New Vegas had (yes New Vegas isn't Bethesda its Obsidian but its worth mentioning still). You sorta get it with the pirates cuz you can either be an inside man for the UC or join the pirates legit, but it isn't enough, and the fact that Freestar doesnt have an angle with them feels a bit of a let down too. I dislike how Ryujin is the only corpo group you can get involved with on Neon, too, like theres tons of backstabbing corpos there, how come Ryujin are the only ones you can work for? Especially annoying because it kicks off from a job application and thus you really aren't making a faction commitment based on values or ethics like in Morrowind. The fact Morrowind essentially had 2 of ever "type" of faction was part of what made it work, sometimes more. For melee fighters you had Fighters Guild for mercenaries, House Redoran for Dunmer Traditionalists, and The Imperial Legion for Imperial soldiers. Mages had Mages Guild and House Telvanni, both of which were rife with their own brands of corruption and navigating social heirarchies; there was also the Imperial Cult and the Tribunal Temple for religiously angled characters to explore the cultures and beliefs of the two major powers of Morrowind. For sneaky bastards you had Thieves Guild and House Hlaalu, with the Guild being more cutpurse and burglarly eventually tying into a conflict with the Fighter's Guild, and Hlaalu being more about politicking. All of these groups weren't neccesarily exempt from one anothr, but they did have internal modifiers that reflected what they thought of one another and how easy or hard it was to get in with them. Starfield being another story set during relative peaceful but uncertain times would've benefitted from that. Join the Freestar Rangers and the UC Vanguard might look at you funny, might make you jump through some extra hoops for example.
The man created Black & White 1 & 2 therefore in my opinion he's a genius. I play Black and White 2 frequently as it's abandonware. I'll buy Masters of Albion whatever the price. Peter is a unique game designer, he's not perfect but none of us are.
I just know I won't pick up a new Uncharted unless he comes back in it.
I thought that adding Noah's Ark was pretty unexpected and would have liked to see them fill in more of the explanatory gaps for how the story got there. In retrospect, I see how Noah's Ark was related to the story about the Nephilim as the Watchers were angels tasked by God to watch the people of Earth but they lusted after mortal women and seduced them for sex and God found out so removed the Watchers and cursed them for their misdeeds but they'd already had progeny with Earth women who were the giant Nephilim which were a nuisance. God felt the best way to get rid of the Nephilim was to flood the planet and start over so did but with Noah's Ark being made to survive the flood so humanity and nature could start over again. In the game, Noah's Ark was empowered by 17 stones that allowed it to, among other things, teleport and also cause a global flood, thus it was a weapon of mass destruction along with a means of surviving such destruction. Why would the Nephilim have been tasks with protecting stones that powered the weapon of mass destruction used to destroy them in the first place?
There’s a single line of dialogue right before the ark about how they are seeking redemption by protecting the pieces of the great circle but I agree that it’s just weird
Because he ran out of luck.
I agree that they killed him off early. Yes, it's true that he had a satisfying ending, but Nathan drake himself could have had a couple more games before then. They did the same thing with 007. Daniel craig was supposed to star in at least two more movies, but he didn't want to act the character anymore, so they had to write an ending for him, which I ultimately feel was rushed. I love Elena, but if Drake ended up with Chloe, I'm sure he would not have given up the mantle. I think it was Bruce Straley and Niel Druckman that said in an interview that they were exhausted with making Uncharted games.
I think there's a difference between "killing" a character and "killing" a franchise. They brought an end to Nathan's story, but they could continue the Uncharted series if they wanted. That said, there will be people saying the same thing after TLOU part 3, when that series is over. Naughty Dog seems to want to head in a direction of telling complete stories within their games and ending them in one way or another. Especially with the announcement of their new IP, I doubt we'll see any more from Uncharted, just as Jak and Daxter was left behind but still praised by the company. If I had to guess we'll get Intergalactic, and then TLOU Part 3, and then depending on the Intergalactic story either a sequel or another whole new IP. Naughty Dog is moving forward, and I think in the long run they want a bigger legacy than TLOU studio to your everyday gamer.
I like this game so much & the freedom in it, but not finding finding purpose or lots of missions makes me kinda bored sometimes. I was hoping Preston show up to point me to a settlement.
5:47 I JUST noticed the literal Uncharted trophies on the wall.
Doesn't help that Nolan North, VA for Nathan Drake, went public with how Neil Druckmann specifically fired Amy Hennig. Kinda hard to keep playing the character when you've been blacklisted by Sony, y'know?
I would love to know the full story behind Amy Hennig’s departure, and learn exactly what her version of Uncharted 4 looked like. She did such great work on the first three games and I wonder how or if she would’ve wanted Drake’s story to end…
Probably because he’s not a lesbian
When it comes to games, Full time gamers and adolescent gamers are like movie critics. They can only see the bad side of games, which for the massive games that Ubisoft makes on a consistent basis, could be a lot. These are the hangers who have enough time to rant about games online. What they don't realize is that a majority of gamers do not have time to get into nuanced gameplay, to analyse whether features from previous games are in there or not, or what the progression system is. Most gamers want a beautiful in game world with a solid gaming experience. I am tired of videos crowding my UA-cam feed about cry baby gamers ranting about how bad Ubisoft games are. Don't play em then. Don't buy them for $70. Wait for a year, the price falls typically by at least 50%. I don't go to a Adam Sandler movie expecting a Aaron Sorkin script or Coen brothers direction. I go there to just laugh like an idiot and then get back to a humdrum life.
My guess is If we were gonna see another uncharted game it would be with Cassie and Sam because by the time Cassie grows up Sully would be too for that stuff we might see an old Nathan trying to stop Cassie on her adventure because its dangerous and you might see Nathan Elena and Sully mad at Sam for going along with Cassie on her dangerous adventure Sam would Say i need money to retire
They didn't kill him off they ended his story in a satisfying manner instead of milking him for the next 3 decades
exactly. They could make a new character with a new story. Nathan Drake's story was fantastic with a fantastic ending
He was a white, straight man and wasn't woke enough.
They make new uncharted game with a muscular female lead....which looks very wired....
Or they ran out of ideas 😮😢
Cause his story is over. Like we don’t need any more uncharted
Also let devs work on new things my god
Fr
They could do a sequel with Cassie (Nates Daughter) as a lead character on her own adventures
That doesn’t sound like a good idea, they already ended this franchise, what’s done is done, better to just leave it that way.
@bfbuilders I'm saying if they wanted to continue, not that it needed to happen. Would I be apposed if that's something they really wanted to do hell no but I'm not begging for it either.
Perfect fit what Sony does right now by pushing only female hero
@nikorasub1410 I'd just like to see where the character could go, don't gotta make it a bad thing. Negative ah people😂
They didn’t kill him off the story just ended 😂😂the mcu has made people believe stories have to keep going non stop and we see how that’s going it’s ok to end
Long before the MCU, James Bond and Sherlock Holmes came back again and again because their repeated story arc worked without the character changing - my point is that Nathan Drake’s story was the same way BEFORE Uncharted 4. I used the MCU as an example of a situation where they successfully ended the larger story, and still kept going, though!!
@@TheBlooMoosenot everything needs to be James Bond though. Or Sherlock also those stories got their constant interactions because they are based off of books. Uncharted is its own ip it can end. I think that naughty dog also should focus on new things ( I really wouldn’t want so Rand dev making uncharted see jak 4
I think a Tomb Raider/Uncharted crossover is long overdue. Imagine playing as one of them trying to race the other to some hidden treasure, you can pick either side then about 3/4 of the way you join forces to take down the big bad. Then you can replay the other side and come across a different ending.
This sounds so dumb😂
@@ayala5730 let the men dream 😂
I’d buy that, the interaction between the two would be funny 😂
i think tomb raider x prince of Persia is more fitting.
Great video
I think a spinoff following a young Sully is the Uncharted game I'd want most. Doubt that will ever happen though!
I thought adding Noah's Ark was a very nice touch!!!
ND has changed their political views one might say. Drake does not fit into these views.
How does he not fit ?
@@yousefsh7949he’s a white male who likes girls
@@yousefsh7949Nathan is a straight white American male, kind of a womanizer and super badass. And well, Sully is like Nathan's uncle, pretty much. ND (and many other big videogames developers, as well) follows an "agenda" so to say, where their characters represent the exact opposite of what Nathan is. It's ridiculous, I know, but that's the way they roll lately, and they destroyed many beloved game sagas (like CoD or Battlefield) by pushing this BS. It sickens me, honestly, because videogames didn't need this toxic environment inserted in them. Hopefully this madness will end someday

Starborn, Dragonborn…cmon Bethesda can’t I just be regular born?
6:07 Stumbled upon Strix I as I was looking for a perfect outpost planet. So far, no human settlemebts anywhere on it! Other than a few human skeletons I found, it seems to be a virgin planet. And beautiful too!
The ending did not work for me ‘Noas Ark’ just seemed out of place now with that being said the game was a fantastic experience 🤠👍
I think the Starborn had their genesis in Constellation itself.
Not very keen on the main quest line in the sense that multiverses are dumb, when it comes to narratives it serves as a reset button or “what if” type scenario that only give a temporary wow factor. Mainly though it takes away the stakes. The UC questline is 100 times better. If I was to rewrite the constellation questline I’d go more for contact with an alien civilisation, it’s quite absent from starfield but a wasted opportunity non the less.
I'm wondering if the pandemic played a huge influence on softening the edge on Veilguard overhall. People feeling isolated and wanting friends so the decided to make everyone friendly and have little to no conflicts. I just hate how they made this into a tween game.
actually you can actually can physically fly to any planet (ones that your in orbit of corse). but when you actually get there its just a low res model of said planet. it also take hours or days real time.
Veilguard treats the player like a child that needs to be constantly comforted, guided through puzzles, taught morals, and prevented from making any wrong choices. It's borderline insulting.
You mean to tell me in 300 years there are only 5 planets each with only one city on them? The next expansion needs to add major cities or substantial settlements to keep me interested, plus ship creation is getting stale even with mods.
It's weird, because it seems like Bioware tried to emulate ME2 for Veilguard with the loyalty missions and trying to build up a team. But they left out one of the crucial parts of ME2, in that some of your squadmates really did not get along, and you had to navigate that.
One good thing I know is a fact about starfield and it's guaranteed there's plenty of open space and lots of planet they can add DLC it's a very good game I didn't like it before because of walking from locations to other locations without a vehicle I wonder if we can have some type of light airbase vehicles maybe like hover cars or something are fighter helicopters some type of military flying vehicles land-based maybe we can have more cities and stuff in the game in the future it's only looks empty at the moment because it is a new game definitely got massive potential
Skyrim anniversary edition is good I know Skyrim was always good without anniversary edition that includes most of The creation club mods and all DLC and some new DLC like property houses for specific builds
The argument for mechs in starfield is just as weak as it was in Oblivion "Levitation was made illegal!" Then why are there a bunch of necromancers around if that was made illegal as well? Simple Bethesda couldn't figure it out, no space bandit mech boss battles for us. Why not have a handful of boss battles with mech pilots that have been fully integrated with the suit so they couldn't survive without it? Makes it so the player cant have one and to make it even easier you can just use a beefed up robot model.
If instead of committing to over 100 star systems _maybe_ over 100 planets (including gas giants and moon sized asteroids) would be near perfect for the amount of content they _actually_ made. Jemison feeling dead outside of New Atlantis is a _perfect_ example, same for Akila. That quest to get the one artifact just outside the city was the biggest exaggeration of "a _whole_ planet to explore!" Besides a restructuring of... well the universe (and Bethesda as a whole), Starfield has corporations that are willing to kill or enslave an entire colonies worth of people just to maintain a good view for their resort half the size of New Atlantis, and for some reason you cant _really_ go against their wishes unless you take on all the responsibility yourself. Bethesda is golden everywhere else, but they need to listen to their QA team and hire an _actual_ writing team. (I honestly think they need to start over again)
I think there are many big concept-stage changes that could’ve made Starfield better, but it’s interesting to think about the small changes they could still easily make that would improve the experience too. I do think that cutting the number of planets down to 100 would feel better, to me (though not everyone would agree!)
@@TheBlooMoose I think one of the biggest issue with Starfields exploration is that you aren't discovering _anything_ in this universe you're re-discovering it. Humans were already everywhere, built a ton of structures (somehow missing the temples entirely) and abandoned them already. The universe feels dead (the weirdest part, not dead from the galactic war that happened. Would hardly know it happened if people didn't tell you about it.) it feels empty precisely because of this even spread of humanity in a poorly thought out way. If the planets that humans live on were more populated and the "empty" parts of space not dotted with human structures (except for secret ones built on _far_ away planets and whatnot) Starfield wouldn't feel as bad as it does to explore (and most pois should really only appear _once_ on a planet. That or they need _A_ _LOT_ more variation.)
@@TheBlooMoose AND ANOTHER THING, nah I'm kidding. I hope you don't mistake all my complaining about Starfield and my _immeasurable_ disappointment in Bethesda as some kind of criticism toward your channel. I appreciate your ability to summarize the conversation in a _neat_ _bow_ without missing the bigger picture and I can be a _touch_ dramatic. 😅(also, sorry for the word salad) I've just been re-playing it and am _STRUGGLING_ to find the good in all that procedural generation. I have _many_ grievances with almost everything I find (enough to fill _an_ _entire_ _series_ worth of hour+ long videos but I haven't hit _that_ level of anger yet) and, more than any of their other games, the missed potential is ASTRONOMICAL! Bethesda left so many questions un-answered and I cant _help_ but be disappointed with the few answers they _do_ give.
Fantastic video.. Hilarious clip 21:50
well said @17:00 great vid
Here’s my issues with the reboot. They’re taking an idea that worked back in the day and completely reworking it to be their own without expanding on what made the first one so great. I don’t know what makes these companies, developers and producers thinks it’s so taboo to follow what made these older games so great but it’s become an incredibly taxing experience. I feel as if they played the original games and took everything out of context without considering or consulting with the OG devs as to what their vision was. And if they did do this they completely ignore them and say well were gonna do it our way instead. This will be the ultimate downfall of this new fable franchise. They just don’t get it. To be honest these trailers feel more like a showcase rather than an attempt to make an incredible choice based rpg that somehow the 2004 fable did much better, and they did it on consoles with limited technology and resources.
I think the vial is FEV, Harold it's a Mutant and a Ghoul at the same time
I am a huge Indiana Jones fan saw the new game is out wanted to play it the read an article from fandom pulse and videos by Jon del arroz andypants gaming about how the creative director from machine games is a satanist who sells demon ritual items online see articles and videos if you don’t believe me. So why would a billion dollar company hire a woke satanist to write a character who is faith based good and straight male hero? What is more concerNing as Catholics are we not taught to discard evil in all its forms? If you are not aware artists do and always have put their politics and symbols in games what’s stopping him from doing the same with this game. In an interview he says the story is true. Remember satan is a deceiver divider and liar. I would not play a game developed by a person that knowingly worships satan. Nor should you.
The whole storyline was ridiculous. Once he discovered what the fertilizer did, he should have just put it on unused land. He had a whole star system that was mostly uninhabited.
My main issue with Ubisoft games is the theme of low quality bloatware content in the open world games.
To solve puzzles u need be smart.
