The highlight of the day, though, was visiting my grandfather, "Pop," in his garage. At 88 years young, Pop still loves working on projects, including building some o...

    How many times do you use the insravap , do use it just the one time per season or 2 or 3 times each hive

  • @Xray.71
    @Xray.71 22 дні тому

    Stupid question. For a hive with 2 deeps and/or more, how do you treat each deep with 4 grams without damaging a frame? I get the very bottom deep shooting through the front but how do you treat the 2nd brood box above without damaging a frame? Upon inspection, any frame near where an access hole was made, after OA was vaporized, the bees stopped building or storing on that frame….. Almost need a cooler OA delivery….. I know that’s counterproductive to the sublimation process just need to know if I should repeat the dose again for bigger hives. Thanks!

    • @LorobBees
      @LorobBees 21 день тому

      I would never ever put 8 grams of OA into a box of bees.. EVER. 4g through the font door only on a double deep should be the maximum. Putting too much OA on the colony when its not needed can stress the queen and cause various other issues. On a second note it can also be related to things other then OA, i have followed a few roads like this over the years and each time have found that it just tends to be a statistics in the colony that two events are going on at the same time but only noticed post a treatment event. Oxalic acid is found naturally in the hive, the honey and even in the wax due to its natural properties. During the sublimination process it is not degraded or changed therefor having no negative effect on the bees. Some have even mentioned that it stimulates the colonies though that theory has not been proven.

    I've seen some people put a towel in the hive entrance...is this necessary to block the entrance with the towel?

    • @LorobBees
      @LorobBees 29 днів тому

      The more that you sell, the colony, the better the treatment is. Generally, the style of hives that I use are better sealed the most so I do not really worry about it. But if it is windy, I will cover it in some capacity.

    OA vaporization is my go to and favorite way to treat. Love my insta-vap, this tool enables me to help a lot of fellow beekeepers. I fear with the introduction of extended slow release strips we are setting ourselves up for mite resistance against OA in the future. I simply would never want to lose the current efficacy we have with OA vapor. Now that we have extended release strips available , are the commercial outfits going to blindly treat with these strips, leaving OA slow release in all their colonies, then 3 years from now selling their bees to the public which are now resistant to OA. It seems these has happened with other products as well. My hope is with the release of OA strips we are not setting ourselves up for a fall.

    At last, watching my hives inflammation fade day after day until they completely vanished was such a relief, I went with what I pointed out and within the first 10 days or so the urticaria was barely visible! I just go'ogled the latest by Shane Zormander and after 20 days my skin has never been healthier!

    About laying workers: 3 weeks after no queen, the workers ovaries turn on, and workers lay drone eggs in worker cells, and at capping they dome over.. alternatively, a poorly mated queen can sometimes produce only drones.

  • @saintjohncoleman8602
    @saintjohncoleman8602 4 місяці тому

    About strong nucs: I bought four this spring, and they were really strong and populated, so I had to split more or less the week of installation, and wound up with four more nucs! One had already made swarm cells before pickup..

  • @saintjohncoleman8602
    @saintjohncoleman8602 4 місяці тому

    I’ve had a few queens “faint” after marking, but they get back to normal after a few minutes. Maybe it’s the compression of the thorax from the “ foam in the tube” queen marking method. You don’t compress the thorax, so no fainting.

    I have never counted each bee one by one, 1/2 a cup IS the sample size. AND I've never killed a queen yet but I'm pretty good at spotting them. How do the alcohol fumes not hurt her? Quality looking products but I think this lure is for the fisherman and not the fish!

    • @LorobBees
      @LorobBees 5 місяців тому

      For the most accurate results, it is crucial to individually count bees during testing. Without precise counts, estimates of infestation levels can be significantly off, as I have observed with many beekeepers who thought their sample sizes were accurate but were mistaken. Additionally, I have experienced the accidental loss of three queens over the years due to rushing the wash process. To avoid such issues, I recommend using the Dawn dish soap method, as outlined by Randy Oliver. I realize these techniques may not be suitable for everyone, but for many beekeepers like myself, they significantly enhance the efficiency and precision of our mite washes.

    Interesting anyway you could use that attachment on your varroa sampler to attach it to a vaporizer? You could give a small dose for those 400 or so bees release them back to the colony alive then count the dropped mites? Would eliminate the need for soap water alcohol etc and most everyone already has OA.
