Finish welding and paint the roadster pickup chassis
Переглядів 4893 місяці тому
This time in the shop, we break down the chassis for the roadster pickup for finish welding. We then set up the makeshift paint booth in the shop and prepare everything for prime and paint. After a quick reassembly, we repair and install the brake/clutch pedals, and run the brake lines to the axles.

Some time has passed since our last video. We go over some updates around the shop and make some significant strides forward on the roadster pickup project!!
Building Simple Body Mounts
Переглядів 1,4 тис.10 місяців тому
Today’s major task is to securely mount the body to the frame. This is the first step in handling the steering setup for the car. While we put these simple mounts together, we swapped out the front brakes, exchanged the Model T headlights for some original paint BLC headlights, and adjust the mounting position of the split ‘37 Ford front wishbones.
Building hot rod rear axle radius rods
Переглядів 2,2 тис.11 місяців тому
Today in the shop, we tackle the job of building radius rods for the rear axle. We convert the original 1937 rear torque tube supports into radius rods. These will properly support the rear axle equipped with an open driveshaft planned in the near future.
Building crossmember gussets: A proper excuse for more speed holes
Переглядів 3 тис.11 місяців тому
Today in the shop, we finalize the design of the transmission crossmember that will strengthen the chassis and also support the rear radius rods.
Building a crossmember for an early ford 3 speed
Переглядів 1,3 тис.Рік тому
Today in the shop, we make great progress on the RPU chassis. After tacking in the rear axle spring perch, we build out our transmission crossmember to both support the transmission, and verify the location of the F1 ford brake and clutch pedals.
Flathead Ford Distributor setting points and initial advance Pt.2
Переглядів 8 тис.Рік тому
Today in the shop, we pick up where we left off with the distributor on the Flathead. We set our points gap, and use our newly developed timing tool to set our initial advance, then test it out on the flathead. Interested in purchasing a timing tool? They’re available for $30 shipped anywhere in the US. Follow this link: paypal.me/Thehotrodworkshop?country.x=US&locale.x=en_US Send: $30 In the “...
Flathead install and splitting wishbones
Переглядів 1,7 тис.Рік тому
After a long day of finish welding the frame, we install the flathead ford engine and trans. Then we split the wishbones off the 37’ ford front axle assembly
Building a Hotrod frame from scratch
Переглядів 54 тис.Рік тому
Over the course of a few days, we bit the bullet and built a brand new frame for project “TeeBurn”. We chip away at some 2x4 3/16 thick steel to form a familiar shape to hot rodding. This brings us one step closer to piecing together a really cool roadster pickup!
Firing up the Flathead Ford
Переглядів 2 тис.Рік тому
Over the past few months, we’ve been chipping away at this 1939 Ford to get it prepared to run. After properly setting it up on the stand, we inspected, cleaned, adjusted and rebuilt what was necessary to confidently fire it up. One large piece of the puzzle is set in place.
Flathead Ford distributor adapt and rebuild : part 1
Переглядів 9 тис.Рік тому
Today in the shop, we rebuild a 1946-1948 Ford flathead distributor. We discuss the evolution of distributors on Flatheads through the years, dissect our 46’-48’ core, clean reusable parts and replace all wear items. Tune in for “part2” when we prepare the distributor to factory settings, adapt to our 1939 flathead and more!
Making a Flathead engine stand adapter
Переглядів 1,6 тис.Рік тому

Nice 👍
Wish i had the talent you have, i paid for most of what was done to my 53 F100, but enjoyed the motor swap to a flathead v8 from the 6 cyl and interior work a buddy and i did. Best wishes.
Once the welt is on the cowl your hood bead should line up nicely. Good luck in your health, myself have had 6 cancer surgeries with chemo and radation so I know what it takes out of you. Keep looking forward....
@@donaldcampbell5277 I’m so sorry to hear about your suffering through this illness. It takes unwavering optimism and determination to continue the journey. hope things are working out for you now. Much appreciation for the comments, thank you
X-Y table moves parallel to the spindle. No need to tram it.
Hey mate, do you ship to Australia? If not would you sell me the stl 3d print file?
Points and their respective coils (not to mention plugs & wires) run at a lower output votage (typically 14kv to 18 kv in mid 70's Gm vehicles) at the spark plug. Lower voltage equates to higher current that equals higher plug internal temperatures and shorter life spans for sparkplugs, plug wires and points alike. Electronic ignition systems & their coils typically operate between 30-35 kv output (stock) and upwards to 75kv on modified vehicles. Higher voltage equals lower current, lower internal plug temperature and longer life for wires and plugs alike. And this says nothing about better fuel economy. Ever wonder why back in the day spark plugs, points and plug wires needed changing as often as every 10,000 miles? And now plugs last as long as 150-200k miles now? Well now you know. 😂
Sir I loved this video and this carb, thank you!. Can you please tell us if there are replicas of these carbs that we can buy? Can this carb be ran as a side draft carb ? Have you ever seen or heard of a side draft version of this carb? Thanks for your insights!
Get that thing off your grinder so it can breathe 😂 guards are for Chinese workers this is merica! Just messing with ya nice job on the frame.
What material is that square tubing does have to be chrome molly I want to build a frame
I’ve never seen coining! Cool tip
Brilliant build
Underrated suggestions!
Real nice! Love the flat head. Someone is living my dream. Every day is a Blessing. Thanks for sharing.

Looking good.
Thank you very much!
I wasn't even supposed to be here today!!!
Coming together beautifully! Tilly is doing awesome work. Definitely will be headed into the same suspension and brake work soon on the 38. It’s helpful to see how you went about it and where you had a few challenges. Keep up the fight on the health front. We’ll be thinking about you.
@@HouseofChop thank you Phil. Looking forward to seeing that beautiful truck!
Looks real good!!! Did you go to Hershey?
@@KCwant2fly thank you! I didn’t make it this year, but had a friend scope for some parts I’ve been looking for. No luck tho

You are so close to helping me. What I actually need is to see the wires running from the ignition coil to the Old point distributor how the heck do you hook those up?
Really well done!! one of the best explanation videos out there, great job ,thank you
Dig it!
Very cool, I am building a mish mash with similar vibes on my channel! Im subscribed!
@@tradrodsandcustoms thank you sir, I’ll be keeping up with your project as well!
Great video! But isn’t die-electric grease used to prevent contact?

I'm just having one refurbished to stick on my classic mini
Any advice would be appreciated. I have a pertronix module 2 on my golf cart. Any reason why the manufacturer Columbia Par Car had one installed?? My cart just starts without running. Would the module have to be replaced??
You went the right way
Damn looks clean!! Also wondering what length of box tubing did you use to finish full chassis.. I’m gonna be starting a chassis build such as this and an insight on length be great to knw on how much to get.. 20 feet ect
@@alexzarate8675 I started with a single, 24 ft length of 2” x 4” 3/16” thick rectangular tubing. Ended up with about 4ft left over.
That came out great, keep up the good work!
@@jimithompson4398 thank you sir!!
Outstanding job so far on the build. Keep up the great work.
@@stevemcwilliams4288 thanks pops, couldn’t do it without you!
Now wait a minute. What brake tube flairing tool is that? I’m always one step out of the loop. That painted chassis stage reminds me of the old Hot Rod magazine builds in the 80s. It all looks so simple and easy.
@@836dmar the brake line tool I used is made by Mastercool, but this design has been revised and sold by many different companies. I prefer this design of flaring tool over most since it provides very consistent, concentric flares. It’s also compact enough to repair a factory brake line still installed on the car.
Just a great look and great film making. All these “small jobs” are so time consuming but so inspiring to those of us with lingering projects. Very good work! We are praying for you, brother. Keep us informed.
@@836dmar thank you very much
It is looking good man!

Dang, no finish shot of the beef??? I bet it didn't last long. Nice work on the Chassis btw!
