COUNTRY PICKIN' -(PLAYING MORE TASTEFULLY TO TELL A MUSICAL STORY OVER THE SAME TRACK) (BJT-035)

On my last video example (Video BJT-034) I played random licks to a country track that I created as an example of using some bends and triads . In this video I'm using the same backing track that I created and used in video BJT-034 but playing my licks and phrasing more thoughtfully to "musically speak" using steel like string bends and a more melodic approach. This helps create a more structure...

Having a bit of fun with some blues again. Here is another variation with a BB King style backing track in B minor and using a Strat and a clean tone. The playing is a little rough but it’s more of me testing out my new Boss IR-200 Amp and cabinet simulator. I’m pretty impressed with its tonal versatility. It's fun to practice guitar and really enjoy it and feel the music. Throwing caution to the wind and not knowing what's around the musical bend in the road. Well.....I play like that most of the time. I hate copying licks off of records just to sound as they say "just like the record". I love hearing parts, learn them If I needed to for a project I would play in. But for the most part I like to...

Hi, that really put a smile on my face. I've been playing since I was 13 years old. I'm 75 now. I played lead guitar for 61/2 years in a rock band, in the late 60s. I've had a Christian musical ministry for 30 years and use my rock chops to try to steer kids in the right direction. However I've never done much Chicken pickin. I am writing to ask if you could please tell me where I could get some instruction and information on how to do what you just did. I would be grateful for any information you could provide in that direction. BTW. 10 seconds into your playing and I couldn't help but hit the subscribe like and the bell for all notifications. Thank you for putting out that video I look forward to hearing more. Shalom/gw. ❤
@@googleboy7 Thank you very much for the kind comments ! And thanks for subscribing! I really need to do a video on this and break down some of the licks and how I played them. I may do that soon. It’s hard to know where to point you specifically but of course there are many courses out there including “chicken picking” where they showcase licks and break them down. Courses like TrueFire for example which are taught by world class players whereas I’m a totally self taught player and shamefully don’t spend any time learning many technical aspects of playing any style. It’s more of an idea at the time. But chicken picking for me is nothing more than percussive picking using your fingers and pick or in my case thumb pick and fingers and using a lot of plucking the strings as opposed to straight flat picking. But it’s a great style. Some of the masters of that style for me are …James Burton, Brent Mason, Roy Nichols, Albert Lee’s earlier work with a tele, Johnny Hiland and Redd Volkaert just to name some. Thank you again for subscribing to the channel and for being so kind.
Love this.. is that a Firebird pickup in the neck of that Strat? Great tones
@@TXbluesplayer thank you! All pickups including the neck pickup that I used in the video are made by Vineham hand wound pickups. I’m not sure if they still make that mini humbucker but you can reach out to them. Craig specifically wound the pickups to match each other if memory serves me correctly. The neck mini humbucker in that guitar is a little more transparent sounding than the Gibson mini humbucker that I own. Here is a link I found if you want to try and reach out to him. Thanks again! www.vineham.com
@@guitareveryone they sound glorious my man!

hi again how are you not had chat lately i still listen and love this tune and playing around with it want your advice thinking of getting a joyo eq se if i can get nearer to the sound would a 6 band do the job or do i rearly nead a 10 i notice that even tho your on the neck pickup you have a bright and crisp tone on the bottom strings nice twangy sound hope you can help me,all the best to you michael.
@@michaelread3706 Hi Michael! Yes a 6 band EQ should be fine. I also forgot to mention that I used some subtle tremolo as well to enhance the tone that I never mentioned in the description. And the Dream 65 pedal that I used in that video is a bright sounding pedal too. Unfortunately I don’t own the Dream 65 pedal anymore though because I sold it to fund some other gear. I also used Elixir 10-46 strings which are my favourite too because they retain a bright tone and hold up much longer than the regular uncoated strings. Hope this helps you out and good to hear from you!
@@guitareveryone Hi i dont no your name did i see someone call you darren? thanks for the reply again you never fail to help me,ive ordered the 6 band thanks for advice theres a big difference in cost 6 to 10 band,i wont bother with the dream 65 there lot of money and i do have the tonemaster blond to play with also a bugera valve amp there great sounding amp too,i aso use them same strings but i am trying out some d,addario nyxl there not coated but feel and sound nice too,yes i could here the tremalo you added to that, nice for a chat and your help again thanks and all the best to you good luck. meant to show you my latest tune see what you think ua-cam.com/video/4TdV_wXzpM8/v-deo.html
