Did the bolts ever leak in the hull? I am considering doing this to my 12 foot flat bottom jon. Was the stability improvement significant compared to without?
@@benbialas9339 Hey bud, thanks for the comment. The bolts have not leaked a drop to this day. The stabilizers made a HUGE difference on this boat. Placement will play a big role in how much stability you get and how fast you get it. I have a video where I added stabilizers to a 10 foot flat bottom Jon boat. How To Stabilize a Jon Boat ua-cam.com/video/0BCIJJCK-EU/v-deo.html I keep adding my stabilizers higher up on the boat (above the rib). That is just in case I want to use an outboard motor, a higher mount will have less drag and plane off easier. To get better stability faster I would think mounting below the rib you would have the stability at all times and not just when you have your weight on one side of the boat. To get back to your question, the difference has been like night and day for my particular boat.
@@wisdomandthewoods7422 thanks man appreciate the information. Gonna watch some more of your videos
Very nice work. Thank you for the video!
@@billybob1723 Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I truly appreciate it.
I like the stabilization on this boat better than your more recent video on a boat stabilizer, this boat looks more stable and the flats are lower to the water so they function quicker so there is less tilt to the boat wtg cool project
@@diggindiggenit6540 Thank you, this is my favorite boat no doubt. Some people kept dogging me saying “that’s not a jon boat”. I guess they didn’t realize that the title said Jon boat mainly because I figured that was what most people would be looking to put stabilizers on. So I used a Jon boat on the next video showing another more simple option for stabilizers. I appreciate the compliment. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.👍🏻
Good bit of fishing at the end, first time i have seen floats on a boat well actually it is the second the first was a video you made quite a while back i was looking through your videos trying to spot part two and found this one, when i look at how they function you have to rock the boat pretty good before they even touch the water, the angle of the boat is sprtty steep when they touch, wouldn't it be better if you were to lower the flats like 4 inches closer to the water? that way they would function earlier and there would be less initial tilt being more stable quicker?
@@diggindiggenit6540 You are absolutely correct about what you are saying. The idea of putting them up higher was to get the best of both worlds. Little to no drag when using an outboard motor and then having the extra stability when absolutely necessary. Would definitely be more effective sooner with them mounted below that rib. Thank you for your interaction.

@@ClayLoyd My pleasure. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I hope yours turns out as stable as mine did. It is my favorite boat thus far.
I remember back in the seventies or eighties a small boat company had those side stabilizers. Think it was Coleman canoe and Scanoe boat. They were made of ram x plastic and stabilizers were solid foam. Closed cell foam. GREAT IDEA!!! I love my KLR, and my other Kawasaki motorcycles I've had in the past, but their warranty service sucks. It took them a while to adjust this, then it started doing it again. Also, on a 6 day road trip it started leaking oil from the base gasket. I took it in when i got back with oil all over it and the dealer kept saying they don't know where it's coming from. Drove it and still didn't know where it was coming from. they kept my bike for over a month saying they were trying to get the warranty department to let them replace the base gasket. I called the warranty dep personally and they said they have no record of the dealership contacting them. The called the dealership and they fed the same crap to the warranty department. Now i had both warranty department and dealership giving me the same bull crap. In the end i picked up my bike with no resolution from the matter. The dealerships suck and so does kawasaki warranty. Glad i didn't pay extra for a warranty. 2023 Gen 3 KLR
@@tasatasat Zero accountability and zero responsibility from these dealerships and manufacturers. I have bought 2 brand new motorcycles and have decided that I will buy used bikes from now on just like I do with cars, trucks and SUVs. You can usually buy a 1 year old bike hardly ridden with that same useless warranty on it and never pay a dealership fee. I’m sorry you’ve had all that trouble. We are just living and learning. Thank you for sharing your experience.

The spray foam is like pour foam it sucks up water and retains it. It’s like foam in big boats. The blue or pink foam won’t retain moisture and is more buoyant than pour foam or spray foam is.
@@BrokeBackBob4559 That was my suspicion, thanks for confirming that. I appreciate your input. I have heard of Boston Whalers and Carolina Skif’s foam getting water logged over time.
@@wisdomandthewoods7422 I have a Lund Alaskan 1600 and it had pour foam in it when I bought it and it was water logged so I replaced it with the pink foam and now my boat is always about 600 pounds lighter
@@BrokeBackBob4559 That’s a heck of a difference.
Maybe you could just shove some pool noodles in there. Cheaper and easier.
@@jonnathankirby3810 That is an interesting idea. I wonder if one of the larger pool noodles could be forced to fit into that size down spout. That could very well work. Thank you for the comment.
I'd lower both of them about 3-4 inches then they would stop the tipping earlier , touching the water when the boat is loaded the way you normally use it.
@@huntsmart4850 I may make another video doing it that way. This way just keeps them out of the water to keep them from ploughing through the water if I want to use a motor on it. You are 💯 correct though. Thanks for the comment.
Instead of spray foam you can use pour in foam it's alot easier. Your holes are easily patched being on top of the gutter
@@reedg1498 Thanks for the tip. I have heard of the pour foam but I have never seen it before. Thanks for the comment.
The ends are not underwater so technically what’s it’s filled with shouldn’t make a difference if water isn’t getting in the downspout.
Thanks for your comment and thank you for watching.
There’s a little bit of fishing at the end of the video if anyone is interested.

How did you seal the screw holes???
@@Notthatdude Lexel silicone on both inside and outside the bolt holes. Thanks for the question.
If you added water to that would it still float? I am curious what would happen if a wave crashed over the front and filled the boat with water.
@@christianigram1150 This boat would float. You may have to get out of the boat and hang on to the side, but at least you would still have the boat. Thank you for your question.
What are the dimensions before bends?
@@haroldkkromopawiro1680 15 inches from bend to bend. Thanks for watching.
Great idea. What if instead of putting it above the side rib on the boat it was placed under that rib. Would that not help eliminate some of the instability? If the floats were lower it might not have as much tilt before the stabilizers actually do their job. Just spitballing ideas. The wife and I went out yesterday and I got my babtism in 30ft of water when it rolled to one side and dumped my fat ass overboard. And of course, she only weighs about a buck twenty so there was no getting back in the boat because she doesn't weigh enough to hold down the other side while I get back in. Had to old on to the boat while she trolled back to where I could touch.
@@TimCoble-l6w I’m glad y’all are OK. You are absolutely correct about putting the the stabilizers below the rib. It would be doing its job at all times that way. I put it above the rib just in case I wanted to put an outboard motor on it. Having it above the rib was to have less drag. I have videos where I made stabilizers on another boat (v-hull) and having them just touch the water allows good speed and the stabilizers only work when they are needed. You should check them out. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Is this below the waterline as it looks like?
Basically it’s just above the water line with just the motor. It drops down a little when you get in. I did it this way to get the best of both worlds. Not a lot of drag (plowing through the water) and the stabilizers begin to work with just a small amount of lean to either side. Thanks for the view and your question.
Maybe with the room you have on side of boat, double the down spout putting 3 inch side to boat making a 6 inch tall and 4inch wide floatation rail on each side, try a heat gun for forming. Thank you for trying this, and sharing. Definitely gets the ideas flowing. Be careful and God bless.
That’s a great idea. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Should put that thing lower.. Like at the waterline so it will stabilize it immediately. Go for waterlin mount,
I may do that on another video. I keep putting them higher up to keep from having the stabilizers ploughing through the water. Trying to get the best of both worlds. I do need to experiment with mounting some lower so that they are working full time rather than just when the boat is leaning to one side. I do think that it could possibly risk a false sense of security though, creating a tipping point (or a fast tip spot) once the stabilizer is so far down in a lean. Higher up, you have a clear reference point being the water line. Good ideas. Thank you for the input.
Did you put the stabilizer s even with the bottom of the boat?
@@markmitchellsr1837 I put them where they would just touch the water with the motor on the boat. Thanks for watching.
