I actually miss filler episodes tbh. So many shows now (not this one) are so pared down that there's no room for episodes that are just fun and meant for character development. Though this show has a good amount of episodes.

2 years late, but... I think you guys kinda missed the point of the movie. The movie isn't a condemnation of homosexuality, it's a condemnation of the society that restricts how 2 consenting adults can love. This is done largely through metaphor, conflict of ideals, and metanarrative elements. (The short story doesn't take place in Wyoming, Ang Lee chose that location because in 1998, 7 years earlier, a gay man was lynched there) For example, the campfire talk where you're annoyed about how the dreamer is being shut down: Yeah, where would they go? This is 1970's America, sodomy laws were still a thing and 80% of the country was aok with that. Where would they go? Maybe San Francisco or New York? If they can even make it out there with what little skills and money they have. That's not even getting to Jack's in-laws who would have him hunted down. Like, America being ok with lgbt rights is a very new thing. In fact, 2005, the year this movie came out, was the first time in US history 51% of America was ok with lgbt rights. Also, the reason why so many lgbt stories from pre-2010 had someone die, is because that's how life was back then. The Aids epidemic and lack of civil protections did a number on the lgbt community at the time. This is like questioning why so many Jewish stories after the 1940's are filled with death, like, it's kinda obvious why given the times.

My favorite 2 episodes of season 2. My favorite 2 of season 1 are ep 7/8. Are we seeing a pattern about my fav character? 😊 Fun fact about “I’ll have what she’s having,” That was director Rob Reiner’s mother who said the famous line. In the karaoke scene, Rebecca hands over her jacket to Sam and they have a mini glance.

She’s right. We all have accents. Some are just less obvious to name because most often we have a combo of them, technically. It’s important to recognize that we all sound different to each other. We see Jamie for the secret santa. I’m also a Grinch about Christmas. But my fav parts of this are Roy and the Rebecca performance. The video of Hannah rehearsing is super fun. Look it up.

The City of Santa Monica (as the prefix "City of" suggests) is actually an honest-to-gosh municipality with a mayor and a city council and everything. Neighborhoods are basically unincorporated areas officially designated for whatever reason. 🙂

Sorry, have to clarify about Christo Fernandez . He was in a youth team of the Mexican pros in Guadalajara and got hurt, (at 15 I believe.) so technically yes, he was a professional, in their development leagues. But he went to university for theatre. He never did make the main squad. Phil Dunster also wanted to be a rugby player as a kid and was apparently quite good, also injured too soon. 🙁 Apparently Kola Bokinni (Isaac) has a football/(soccer) background too and is impressive.

Fun Fact: the actress the plays Rebecca (cause I cant remember her name atm) is such a good actress you'd actually think those Biscuits were delicious. But they were shite. Lol she hated them.

Anthony was Buffy Watcher and became a surrogate father figure to her and the other kids. He did a fantastic job back then to the point I sought out other shows and film he did. Then came Merlin and he showed just how good he is by playing a royal asshole. When I saw the photo of him as Rebecca husband in episode one I was bouncing in my seat cause I knew we had an actor that was going to bring to life her nasty ex! Enjoying the banter you bring to the review and look forward to more!

It was in this episode that I finally realized what it was that drew me to this show. The central theme is love. Love in all its forms, among diverse people, all around the world. Even their powers are a form of love... of sharing that can only be brought about by caring. Even the bad guys are only bad guys in that they are trying to destroy or corrupt that love, but their evil mission is still centred on that theme. This is why this show is and will always be my happy place. Also this episode was my favourite one of the series.
