Yea that’s a pretty good way to put it. Instead of the white line being what is stretched, the sole is.

This is actually a really hard subject to have a conversation on because until you have lived it, anatomy says it’s wrong. But, honestly, I’m trimming more off feel, I’m trimming the distortion away by cutting the shape in, but because I’m leaving all the depth, and the sole is stretched, I end up actually nailing “inside the white line” quite a bit. I plan on doing a video on this in the future

Hey there! I definitely agree, since I swapped to using pull offs more instead of create nail pullers, it definitely makes life a bit easier for everyone when I cut them. I think crease nail pullers are definitely a huge difference maker in cutting clenches or not! Thanks for the comment and for watching!

@@wiseforgeandfarrier I think you’re right about that, everything feels like it takes on new hard part new things to learn and new challenges to overcome but coming from a guy with absolutely no forging experience I definitely know someone who likes to show off what they do and being proud has gotta be one of the easiest steps along the way of mastering anything.

The part that takes skill is not closing up the fullering, or hollow section, of the steel or dinging up the concave, or slanted section, on the inside of that “45 degree” bend. For those that know, this takes some well practiced skill to get proficient at.

It is a ton of physical work. The best piece of advice, find a good mentor and stick to them like glue!

I've always been fascinated by the ability to reform a material like metal, the unfortunate thing is I don't think there's anything in the state where I live

Hey there! Thanks! I would say I don’t necessarily think of it as shoeing around the coffin joint as much as it’s maintaining proportions, both in front and behind ducketts dot. I set a ton of shoes back off the toe, but I do it with a toe clip. Being as wet as it is here, the soles and white lines distort so to maintain vertical depth, a lot of time, I’m actually “inside the white line”

Not at all! The nails are driven into insensitive structure called the white line. The white line is basically the Velcro between the hoof wall and the coffin bone. Just like our nails, there’s sensitive parts and insensitive. When done proper, the nails are in the insensitive

When it’s done properly, not at all. Just like trimming our own nails or a dogs nails, if you do too much it absolutely can be painful and these big animals will let you know.

I would have loved to have maybe another 1/8 inch, but honestly this guys feet grow like he’s in New Mexico so I don’t mind a little tighter fit

Believe it or not the northeast is loaded with great farriers and blacksmiths. I do believe it’s maybe not as prevalent as it used to be but some really great handy guys up there

I only use my thumb when I am doing finer more accurate blows, but your definitely not wrong!

Do you have to be strong to do blacksmithing cos I'm really skinny but always wanted to try and learn as a hobby

Ahhh definitely the one thing I struggle with most! It’s hard to juggle the eye protection and the sweat. Sometimes I’m really good about it but most of the time I just use “safety squint”
