1961 - Original Song by Steve Olson
Lyrics:
Well I heard a song today, Written some place far away,
and long before I had ever heard your name.
It couldn't be about us darling, how could it be about anyone but ourselves?
Still I was hoping we'd sing something else.
There ain't nothing new underneath the sun.
And I can tel thats true by thee way he plays that song form,
1961. Well it couldn't be a song about just anyone.
Well it's slow and it's sweet, but it ends in misery,
Don't let that be the song for you and me.
Because I think we could make it, if we just change it and we'll sing a new song today.
I'll write us a brand new song, we'll skip that old long gone and when we do,
We'll sing it all night long.
Oh we can, write it together, make up the ending and sing a new song today.
There ain't nothing new underneath the sun.
And I can tel thats true by thee way he plays that song form,
1961. Well it couldn't be a song about just anyone.
Well it's slow and it's sweet, but it ends in misery,
Don't let that be the song for you and me.
Oh we can write a different song for you and me.
And when we do we'll dance together, sing it forever yeah sing a new song today.

Of all the Bob Dylan songs I love, of which there are many by the way, this is perhaps the one I find the most beautiful, and the most heartbreaking. And while it is sad, I do also find it has some encouragement in it if listened to closely. Particularly in the final verse with the long fought acceptance of a gift from the speaker's departed lover. I find it apt that the gift he'll eventually p...
It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry | Bob Dylan (Cover)

I think 'It takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry' is my favourite name for a song ever. The song itself is also pretty good. This is my attempt at trying to do something of a blues fingerstyle arrangement of the song, combining elements of the rhythm guitar, lead lines, piano and harmonica. Little bit scrappy but I hope you can enjoy. Thanks!

Well, this has been one of my favourite songs for a good while now and I've always wanted to learn that opening guitar riff. Definitely still need to work at it some, and one day I'll learn that solo at the end too. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this one. Played this one my brother's squire Strat, which is actually not a half bad guitar considering how cheap it was. Could have used my Mex T...

One of my favourite Beatles song for sure. Rubber soul over Revolver, SGT Pepper over Abbey Road, and White Album over everything. Enjoy!

Love this old folk song by Ian and Sylvia. Please listen to the original if you haven't heard it already, it's fantastic.

I first heard this one on Muireann Bradley's album, I kept these old blues, and immediately loved it. Here's my attempt after trying to learn it for some time. Frustratingly still nowhere near as good as Muireann

Certainly one of the most underrated appreciated artists.

Love it! I know there's nothing new under the sun but you are brining something very different - I like your original stuff - its fresh!
Thanks so much Sarah!
Lovely Steve, such a unique and versatile voice - definitely your own style which is so refreshing
Beautiful song and nice reverb on your voice, may I ask what you're using? Great job!
Thanks Dominik! I'm using a Rode NTA1 as my mic, going into a Scarlett interface. The guitar is just going direct in too. As for effects, it's just the standard reverb included with garage band as well as some EQ and compression. Thanks again man appreciate your comment
@@steveolson1712 Cool we have the same mic 😎 Thanks for the info, it seems I need to learn to set the reverb right in Cubase, I'm still learning the whole process. All the best and keep them coming! ;)
Another awesome cover and a great spot for recording 👏🙂
Love this. Mor originals please.
Pretty cool, Steve! You’ve got a wide range of influences. I think it sounds like John Hurt mixed with Oasis.
Thanks Chris, really appreciate you taking the time to listen to the song and comment. Yeah I can definitely say that the guitar playing on this one was quite directly inspired by John hurts style, which is something I've been trying to master for a while now. And growing up in the UK, yeah it's safe to say I've been heavily influenced by Noel Gallagher's songwriting in one way or another! Thanks again, Chris !
What a beautiful song. Please keep releasing originals!
Thanks, kind stranger
Lovely.

Good job

Awesome!
Thanks!
Good job!
I really enjoy watching Little Wing covers, every single time it is a different experience, played differently by different people, which is exactly how Jimi Hendrix liked to play it, never the same. Good job, keep it up
Thanks Alex, glad you enjoyed it!
Perfect ❤
Thanks Ricardo, too kind

Good work!!
Thanks!
Beautiful!
Thanks Jorge!
Nice
Thanks!
I realize how cynical and potentially hurtful that comment is. I'm not proud of it. What it is though is the capital T-truth as I see it. An honest appraisal. Perhaps it can inform future performamces. You're obviously a skilled musician. I can't connect with this performance for those reasons though. Hopefully its just me.
All comments, suggestions and feedback are welcome here :)
It's painful to watch this guys inflections and overacted manuerisms. It culminates in a talented, yet soulless performance. There's no substance or feeling. Just a guy who thinks he's more talented than he is. This song wants a broken heart. Not ace ventura crossed with The Fonz.
Really good! Great playing and singing
Thanks, appreciate it!
I don't know the original but this is very pleasant, great performance. Thanks for sharing and welcome back! 😉
Thanks man, good to be back!

Wow! This is incredible. You’re very talented
Great job man! I don't know the original song but this sounds really nice 👍
Thanks Dominik
"My reflection looks at me as if there's something I don't see. " I love this!
Thanks, really appreciate your comments and support!
Here's my take on it, which isn't necessarily correct. I think his message is about how love isn't all rainbows -- how it can be so hard, and how it can break you and beat you down, but how in the end it's worth it, whatever the cost. Great rendition of it, too. Love it.
Nice job man, great song 👍So when can I see you live in the Czech Republic? ;)
Thanks man, ah that would be awesome!
Steve you are incredible in every way. Your voice, your lyrics and the way you play are amazing! I’m a fan man. I create original music myself so I appreciate everything you are doing. Don’t stop going for you goals in music. You are a true force and talent!
Thank you so much Jay, really appreciate you taking the time to comment this and I'm glad you enjoyed!
