Retro Digicams: Sony DSC-H3
I probably shouldn't be buying junk from eBay, but I grabbed this "parts/repair" Sony DSC-H3 for about $30 CAD including shipping.
After putting in a battery, turns out the only thing wrong is the flash doesn't work, which doesn't bother me.
I took this camera with me to a bunch of local places and ended up getting some pretty nice results!

This camera usually just sits in the closet. I have no idea when my mom got it but she's had it for a while, but since it doesn't really get used I decided to borrow it for a few weeks to make a video. This camera was a bit mixed for me. There was nothing really wrong or bad about it, just wasn't one I personally enjoyed though there is a lot to like. Photo examples start at 7:03 Video example ...
A Look at the Instax Mini 9 and my First Pack of Film
Переглядів 3405 місяців тому
This is my first pack of instant film! I was given a Polaroid Onestep camera with some film in it for my birthday, and before using the more expensive film - I decided to practice with my Instax instead. After finding many videos and people calling Instax photos "Polaroids" just because its instant film, and seeing all the people shake their photos, I decided to make a video of my own. I've got...
Making My Friend A Nano Tank As A Gift
Переглядів 1065 місяців тому
My friend had a 3g cube tank that was no longer being used. After deciding it would be nice to have something in the tank again, I offered to build him a little setup using natural materials and clippings from my existing tanks. I added in a couple random shrimps that I had, along with some Celestial Pearl Danio fry from the nano setup I keep beside this one! I'm really please with how this one...
Restoring My Phat PS2
Переглядів 2,4 тис.7 місяців тому
I recently found my friends original phat PS2 in his basement while going through some junk and he said I could have it since it doesn't play God Of War specifically. I mostly wanted the console for my collection and knew I'd not use it too often anyway so I snagged it and decided to clean out all the dust and make it look pretty before putting it on the shelf. I'd like to mod it sometime, but ...

Dirted Planted Nano Experiment - 9 Months
Переглядів 1,1 тис.8 місяців тому
It's been about 9 months since I set up this 5 gallon aquarium using all natural ingredients from a local lake, and its now been about 2 months since adding in the sparkling gourami. There hasn't been much change this time, though the gourami have grown quite a bit and I did remove a bunch of the plants before they completely took over the front of the tank.

My Adopted 45 Gallon Aquarium - Filmed on Old Fuji

I originally wasn't going to make any videos about this aquarium. However, after getting a new (old) Fujifilm bridge camera, I decided that this would make the perfect test for the video capabilities. Everything was found being given away for free from a previous neighbor on facebook. After 16 years, they decided they were no longer interested in keeping fish. Included was 2 neon tetra, a rainb...
Retro Digicams: Fuji Finepix S8200

This camera might be the best deal I've found yet! At just $10, this Fuji bridge camera feels solid and has a good macro and a huge zoom. While not the most premium camera and only sporting a tiny sensor, it still makes a pretty good all around camera for daily use. Photo examples start at 7:46 Video example at 10:00
Dirted Planted Nano Experiment - 7 Months - Finally Adding the New Fish!
Переглядів 35510 місяців тому
I was given another free aquarium! This one is only about 5 gallon, or 20 litres, which I thought would be a good size to try a dirted, no filter tank for the first time. I didn’t have a plan for anything, and an overall goal was to use only collected materials and to not spend any money in making this. I found some sand and wood at a local beach, and soil that we just had lying around. Everyth...

Snowy Hike Up George Cove Mountain to Look at Sea Ice
I need help, do you know what kind of lenses you can buy if it's possible to get clearer shots?
This camera doesn't really have any other lenses you can purchase. Keep in mind this is also an entry level camera, but there are many reasons for why your shots might not come out sharp - the further you zoom the softer the image will be and you're also more likely to get motion blur from shaking. Shooting at higher ISO values also makes the image quite soft in this camera.
Can you reivew sony dsc h9
I unfortunately don't have one to review, but I did do an older video review of the DSC-H7 which is nearly identical to the H9 but with a smaller, lower resolution screen.
I buy that digicam almost 20yrs ago and used it to this day. Works perfectly.
Nice, I like hearing when something has been used so long and is still going!
what type of USB do I need to use to transfer photos to my laptop?
I believe Sony's model number is VMC-MD1 for that cable. Most on eBay and similar sites label it as USB Data cable for Cybershot, but you have to check as there's different connectors with that label.
Marmalade looks great. I just got one. My daughter named him Mango. It is a tank with my betta, Mr. Boombastic. They seem to get along.
That's great. I lol'ed at the Betta's name, I love it.
Is it possible to turn on cloudy mode, home and iso setting and flash at the same time?
You can't use flash while using High ISO mode, but you can use the Program Auto mode with cloudy white balance and flash turned on then manually adjust ISO to higher values such as 1600 or 3200 in the menus. Hope this helps!
Great examples! I agree the best edits are simply cropping. I recently got a Pentax KM which uses this lens.
I've definitely started leaning towards my only edits being a crop and getting the rest right in camera. It's been enjoyable seeing the results with different vintage lenses and this is still one of my favorites in my collection.
@freeshrimp I've always been far too lazy to get into post-production. I am definitely enjoying the flexibility and accuracy of manual focus and aperture to get the shots I want. I wish my problem with digital cameras was understood 20 years ago. Life is life. I know now that Auto means Wrong. LOL
When I was a kid I had a tank of these with neon tetras and a couple snails. They seemed to live forever. I loved how full of personality them seemed to have.
My oldest ones have lived over 4 years now. I just moved and once my tank is set back up I'd like to get a few more too!
Hi, thank you for this review, do you think it is good for portrait or makeup video?
I believe it could be! Video quality is fairly good, though you won't get nicely blurred backgrounds due to the smaller sensor size.
whats the size of lens cap i need answer pls thank you
Without the lens hood attachment some of my 49mm caps fit while others are slightly too small. The camera opening is about 50mm so some common 49mm and 52mm caps might fit.
I have the same camera!
Love my otters
Definitely a top fish for me, I even painted a picture of my first Otto I got
do u think i better get this one or dsc wx1? which one is better...
I don't have experience with it but the wx1 looks like a more premium camera. I like my w310 but I'd probably choose the wx1 personally.
Does this camera have a microphone?
No it doesn't, in the manual it simply states "audio recording is not available" when looking at movie mode.
Thanks for this, I actually bought myself one.
Nice! It's a fun camera to have in my collection, hope you enjoy yours!
What is a good show fish that is compatible with shrimp but won’t get lonely with only shrimp and rasboras and some loaches in the tank
I've been keeping Honey Gourami with shrimp and khuli loaches for a little while now which in my opinion could be a good option, or I've also had decent luck with dwarf gourami and Betta fish in similar situations though that's more of a risk.
what cable does it need
It's a proprietary cable, I believe it's model number VMC-MD1, and can also be found on eBay and similar sites called data sync Cable for Cybershot, though you have to check the compatibility as there's different versions
I just witnessed mine doing that in the tank!
Lucky! Hopefully you see some little fry too!
Just got broken one for free and somehow managed to fix it
Nice! Also got mine free, though I use it less now that I found my H3. Both use the same sensor though and I've been very pleased with the photos I get from them
I love the pic quality hehe nowadays people kinda used that kind of filter but using this u don't need one, it's giving aesthetic vibe :)
Agreed! Along with the small size, thats the reason why this camera still lives in my daily carry bag!
My copy starting with the serial number 229 has ZERO focus breathing, which is a joy to use for video. Unfortunately my copy has the aperture blades stuck wide open, so I can only use it wide open. Sharp enough for 4K video.
Nice! I actually tend to use this lens more for video than photos as well. I only really stop down if I'm shooting landscapes anyway so that issue probably wouldn't bother me given how sharp this lens is.
My new favorite fish
Me too
This video was helpful! I want to buy one... Hopefully I will find a good offer soon :)
Good luck on your search! Mine was relatively inexpensive though I did buy it as "not working" and just got lucky lol.
I know this video is old, but I'd appreciate it if anyone could help me out here. How do you change the recipe on this camera? Please bear with me. This is my first camera
Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by recipe? I'm not sure if this helps, but you use the dial on top to switch modes, and the dial on the back will change exposure settings depending on which mode you're in.
@freeshrimp Like a film recipe? I'm not fully sure it seems like a filter built in to the camera that you can customize
Oh ok I think I understand, that's common on a lot of Fuji cameras but missing here. First page of the menu has "finepix color" which are the film looks you can change. "Chrome" is the only option in this camera other than standard or black and white, and there's no way to customize unfortunately.
@freeshrimp Ah makes sense thank you :)
What's the maximum recording time in Full HD per batteries???
There is a 29 minute recording limit, but time per batteries will differ. For example, my cheap batteries can't record longer than 2 minutes, I'm not sure how long my rechargeables can record but they are much better.
I've just dug this out of storage and I'm keen to know more about what it can do in 2024!
ty
my parents have this camera and its been long since they have used it. Its now not turning on. do u have any tips to repair it?
In my experience that's most often caused by a dead battery that can't hold a charge due to the age. I've got some other cameras with that issue and finding a replacement battery usually solves it unless there's other damage and corrosion.
@@freeshrimp i have bought a new battery which is the same type that of the old (G type) it holds significantly more charge tho still my camera is not powering on maybe its corrosion or damage. it looks ok in the ouside 😔
@@freeshrimp anw thanks man and cool videos bro keep it up
@@notcamo8710 That's unfortunate, just part of the gamble with getting old devices - I've got plenty of dead ones too and feel I lucked out on this purchase haha. Thanks for the comments and support!
@@freeshrimp ofc bro anytime W content
Have you had any luck raising fry since then? Have you tried raising the fry in green water?
Unfortunately no, I ended up having to move provinces shortly after these videos and while I've seen signs of eggs since, they have yet to breed in the new water and all the other fry were lost.
@ the joys of breeding fish 🤨
hi i have this camera but i want to upload my photos to my laptop so whar cord should i use?
It's an older proprietary Sony Cybershot USB cable, VMC-MD1 is the model number for the multi-cable with AV out as well.
This was my mother's camera as well. She got it as a gift in 2009. I inherited it when she passed a few years ago. I find it gives me clearer pictures than my similar sized Canons. Colour is more vivid and there is less Chromatic aberration when looking at the images with zoom. I don't like the way the controls are accessed but I find for casual use, it is a better camera than expected. I also like the embedded memory that will store a few pictures in an emergency.
I am planning on getting this camera. Can I connect it to the computer to use as a webcam?
Unfortunately no, Fuji didn't put that feature in their cameras from that time.
I still have mine. I think the quality of the images are really good for what it is and the time it was released. It tought me how to use shutter speed, aperture and ISO.
Nice! It's a really good little camera, I'm just not used to the Kodak colors haha
you can upload 3D pics on 3DSpaint directly from your 3DS browser. I did it and I liked it.
Hi! Fijifilm Finepix HS30EXR or Fijifilm Finepix S8200
Both are very similar, but I think the S8200 is just slightly better in most aspects.
Looks like watto 🤣
Lol that's great, didn't even think of that!
Hello, did you encounter any battery issue? Mine only lasts for lile 30-40 secs until it shuts off. Do you have any solution for this?
Not with this camera, but I have had similar issues with other cameras. Some cameras are more picky about battery type (NiMH vs alkaline for example) and a lot of cheaper batteries just aren't powerful enough for a camera and shuts off, I show a clip of dollarstore batteries doing this in my Fuji s8200 video.
@@freeshrimp I see, I used an alkaline battery getting these results so you're saying that I should use a Nimh type battery? Thank you!!!
Just bought one today, used in excellent condition for $21. cannot wait for it to arrive and give it a try.
Nice!
hii i also have the same camera! but my memory stick wont go in? is there any tips you have?
Hi! Assuming you have the right kind of memory stick and it's still not working - I'd suggest trying to use a light and look inside to see if maybe a pin is bent inside the card slot of the camera.
hii i also have the same camera! but my memory stick wont go in? is there any tips you have?
looks like someones getting blown, or ate out not sure who is what lol

Hola, me gusto mucho su reseña. Vi este modelo en Mercado Libre, me ha sido muy útil. Gracias por su tiempo. Saludos desde México!
Ha sido mi cámara favorita este verano, ¡gracias por el comentario!
just got one for free in a shop and going to test today, sick video btw, loved the photos and how you teach
Nice! Thank you, I'm trying to improve with each video I make, enjoy taking pics!
that’s so cool, had no idea they did this. Definitely want to keep some of these.
with multiple in the same tank, they made the sound quite often! it's louder than I expected as well
@freeshrimp How does the sound get through the water? Is it so loud that the sound waves carry through the water. I'm not doubting In just wanting to know. Cause most sounds have to be very loud to be noticeable through water.
@@kovenant7 I'm pretty sure they vibrate their fins or something, I honestly don't know though, but its definitely louder than I expected, enough to be noticed from across my room!
Can you add a timestamp to the photos/videos?
Honestly not sure why I didn't think of that from the start, all videos should be timestamped in the comments now!
I love my otos ❤ clean up my plants and rocks and wood plus they are so cute and peaceful
One of my favorite fish for sure!
Really underrated channel! I really appreciate your work
Thank you that means a lot! I put a lot of work into this one and am quite proud of it.
I just bought this camera on ebay, it doesn’t come with a battery or memory card. What battery and memory card should i purchase? Im looking on amazon.
This camera uses a Sony G battery (NP-BG1), and a memorystick pro duo. Both should be pretty simple to find.
Can you tell me what camera settings are good for this type?
Settings will change depending on lighting and subject, but for general use I usually use P mode with ISO 100 or 200, and I'm using the Vivid color profile. It's a pretty simple camera, so I tend to let auto exposure do most of the work and focus more on composition instead.
Very cool!! Here's hoping they hatch! Otos are notoriously difficult to breed
I had some luck with fry hatching, but not with raising them. I've moved since making this video, and I haven't seen them spawning since.
