Retro Digicams: Sony DSC-H3
I probably shouldn't be buying junk from eBay, but I grabbed this "parts/repair" Sony DSC-H3 for about $30 CAD including shipping.
After putting in a battery, turns out the only thing wrong is the flash doesn't work, which doesn't bother me.
I took this camera with me to a bunch of local places and ended up getting some pretty nice results!

This camera usually just sits in the closet. I have no idea when my mom got it but she's had it for a while, but since it doesn't really get used I decided to borrow it for a few weeks to make a video. This camera was a bit mixed for me. There was nothing really wrong or bad about it, just wasn't one I personally enjoyed though there is a lot to like.
A Look at the Instax Mini 9 and my First Pack of Film

This is my first pack of instant film! I was given a Polaroid Onestep camera with some film in it for my birthday, and before using the more expensive film - I decided to practice with my Instax instead. After finding many videos and people calling Instax photos "Polaroids" just because its instant film, and seeing all the people shake their photos, I decided to make a video of my own. I've got...
Making My Friend A Nano Tank As A Gift

My friend had a 3g cube tank that was no longer being used. After deciding it would be nice to have something in the tank again, I offered to build him a little setup using natural materials and clippings from my existing tanks. I added in a couple random shrimps that I had, along with some Celestial Pearl Danio fry from the nano setup I keep beside this one! I'm really please with how this one...

Dirted Planted Nano Experiment - 9 Months

It's been about 9 months since I set up this 5 gallon aquarium using all natural ingredients from a local lake, and its now been about 2 months since adding in the sparkling gourami. There hasn't been much change this time, though the gourami have grown quite a bit and I did remove a bunch of the plants before they completely took over the front of the tank.

However, after getting a new (old) Fujifilm bridge camera, I decided that this would make the perfect test for the video capabilities. Settings will change depending on lighting and subject, but for general use I usually use P mode with ISO 100 or 200, and I'm using the Vivid color profile. It's a pretty simple camera, so I tend to let auto exposure do most of the work and focus more on composition instead.

    Hey @freeshrimp Have you had any trouble with menus getting all crazy and selecting randomly? I just gone one of these for dirty cheap to use as outdoor camera and overall, despite some light dust, the dial button acts as if it's being used all time, making it almost impossible to shoot due to constant and random change of modes. Firmware is updated and there's no other issues. I just got the camera because it was cheap and this video helped me to decide for this one over other models using AA batteries.

    • @freeshrimp
      @freeshrimp Місяць тому

      Hey! I haven't had that happen on my Fuji, but it did on an old Olympus I had. Usually dust under the dial, or faulty connection inside somewhere. I'd suggest trying a bit of compressed air first and seeing if that helps at all!

      @@freeshrimp Thank you for answering! It's a relief to know that it might be reversible. The camera is really nice for its price nowadays, just a bit on the heavy size, but it's kinda impossible to use it until I get that problem solved. Dial works okay, but it keeps switching on screen. I'll try compressed air as you said. It's difficult to someone who has expertise in disassembling/cleaning super zoom cameras here in Brasil. No one wants to do. By the way, what you did to solve the issue in your Olympus?

      @freeshrimp Місяць тому

      @@IgorGoularthOfficial It is! I got really lucky with mine being basically like new condition for $10. I agree with the weight though its still lighter than bringing full frame size lenses lol. I wish I can find someone who can give its lens a good cleaning, but it's difficult to find people that does the job and I have zero confidence in doing myself. Great video, one little thing, although Instax is not Polaroid, Instax is an evolution of Fujifilm's Packfilm format that was based on Kodak's which was famously defeated in court for violating Polaroids patents. Fujifilm until circa 2008 was only allowed to sell their Instant photography products domestically in Japan due to this conflict, and after the original Polaroid company(not the new one that which its branding has been acquired and revived years later) stopped producing Instant film, Fujifilm was able to export it's own Instant film internationally. All this to say, although it's not a 1-1, the process is very similar if not almost the same, thus the reason why some photographers still refer to the Instax format as a polaroid.

      Thanks! I find it neat how different the variations of one console can be on the inside. I didn't bother even changing the CMOS in this one yet since its mostly for display

    I got five of these little fish about a year ago and have never heard their sound. But I also rarely seen any of them either. I have them in a 20 long planted aquarium but not sure how many are now left as I only ever see but one at once and don't see any fish in the tank most of the time.

      Even my little 5 gallon looks empty most of the time, they love spending most of their time in the dense vegetation in my experience so far!

    Fun fact: There were several games on the DSi shop that featured using the camera as a main gimmick. Ones I have are Faceez, Foto Face, Rayman, and Face Pilot. Feel free to look em' up to see how they're used, they're super cool!

    Hey , I need help so I found this camera in my moms drawer and she got it once it came out so it’s pretty old . I used my friends charger to use it because I didn’t find the charger it originally came with , So I charged it and it turned on and took some photos , Once I checked that it’s fully charged I removed the charger and turned on the camera and it doesn’t work . I put the charger on once again and it worked I don’t know if it’s because of the battery because it’s really old but it doesn’t work only if I put it on the charger .

      That sure sounds like a completely flat battery to me based on my experience with electronics repair. I use a generic phone charger with mine and it works fine, I'm sure a replacement battery would solve your issue!

    Help me to decide. I want to start macro photography as a hobby. Fujifilm FinePix S8200 vs Smartphone with Macro lens attachment?

    • @freeshrimp
      @freeshrimp 4 місяці тому

      While the Fuji can focus super close, a phone with lens will get you more magnification in my experience. Most phones have macro modes built in that are just as good, the Fuji is better for other genres of photography in my opinion. Hope this helps!

      @@freeshrimp With my phone's built-in macro mode I have to get within 3cm to focus on a subject. So this is not good when I wan to take pics of skittish insects. Can I use Fuji's 40x zoom to take macro photos of subjects from 30-40cm?

    • @freeshrimp
      @freeshrimp 4 місяці тому

      Fuji would be much better than a phone in that case. I did some quick measurements in macro mode to try and help, super macro mode is limited to 1x zoom and too close for insects. Closest I could focus at 40x zoom was 230cm away capturing 10cm across the frame. Around 5x zoom would give a decent working distance for most insects I think.

      @@freeshrimp Thank you I'll give it a try. Can I use Screw-on filters on this camera? Is there a screwing part at the end of the lens? Maybe I can put a +10 close-up filter and maintain focusing while zooming more than 5x.

    • @freeshrimp
      @freeshrimp 4 місяці тому

      Unfortunately no, I thought that too, but there's no filter threads. I'm sure it'd work though if you used a bit of tape or something to keep it in place
