Hey, im also doing my dissertation and ive been doing my best to complete it before time. Sometimes i do feel that i should have started a bit earlier, im a bit criticizing myself for this. Although im also bit procastinating a bit, but i wish to complete soon. Dealing with a bit of my personal issues, but determined as well. I often felt im the only one feeling like this, but seeing others facing challenges regarding thesis, I'm a bit relieved that everyone has their own challenges.

Its simple Alicent didnt want to be a teen mom, she was force to... repetidaly Rhaenyra did want to have all those kids Regardless of this neither of them is particularly a good mom. Alicent because she didnt have support or a good role model for a parent. She is dealing with her own issues (loneliness, sexual abuse (Viserys), psicological abuse (Otto), heartbreak (Nyra)).... and given 4 kids to top it all up. Not good Rhaenyra because of her inmaturity and entitledment and overall bad decisions that turn her kids into another version of her. Entitled just the same but this time without a reason to back it up. Their bastards while she was the first true born child. Alicent says it best. To hace 3 bastards is an insult. They are better people on their own than they are parents

Alicent knew exactly what her father wanted her to do. She wanted an heir to replace Rhaenyra. She heard what she wanted to hear, She wants Aegon on the throne no matter how unfit. She lets her kids torture Aemon but blames Rhaenyra's kids. She demands to see Rhaenyra's infant instead of walking across the hall. She demanded a SEVEN YEAR OLD'S EYE, something Aemon decides is his right. She marries her gentle, mentally challenged daughter to her monster rapist kid who lets his own bastards fight each other with filed teeth. She lets Llarys pleasure himself to her feet and has an affair with Cole, which was her issue with Rhaenyra in the first place. When she sees Rhaenyra in the Sept she realizes she was wrong and apparently feels no guilt whatsoever. AWFUL person. Cause of the entire war. That entire war! All on her! I'm so glad at the very end the Hightowers wind up as Bronn's bannermen. They deserve it.

To everyone in the comments: Yes, Rheanyra is a FAR better mother than Alicent. But everything has been in Rheanyra's favor as explained in the video. How do you expect Alicent to be a better mother just because she's an adult? Go to therapy? Where and how do you expect her to learn how to treat her children right? She's never known or felt real parental love. She has no one to talk to and get parental advice from . I think everyone is expecting too much from her.

Please, please, nobody ever do this A Master's thesis is a very serious thing and I spent 4 months at mine and I needed every but of it. I got a first and I have seen my classmates who have not put in the work not make this grade. Pkease guys start your thesis very early on

I think she’s a bad mom, but I also think that’s a predictable result of a father manipulating a teenager into marrying a man thrice her age and thus forcing her to have his children.

My problem is that people try and act like Rhae is a good mother when honestly she is pretty equally bad. At our first introduction to her children we learn 2 thing, 1. That they are illegitimate and 2. They are bullying another child because they do not have a dragon. She then refuses to give her child a straight answer when he asks a question which will fundamentally change his life by telling him it doesn't matter. When her son is grieving his father, she tell's him to shut up and go comfort his cousin instead of actually helping him deal with the stress of losing his father, something that she doesn't even say they can discuss this later in private (which is what a good parent would do.) In fact mere days later, she fake kills her husband and the boy's other father figure as though losing a father figure let alone 2 is not a huge deal for a small child (especially one who was not aware the death was fake.) Back to the bullying thing, while she is off sleeping with her Uncle at his wife's funeral, her children go try and attack the uncle they have been bullying, bringing a knife because he claimed a dragon, which he was well within his rights to do. This altercation includes Aemond being 4 on 1 attacked, and threatened with a knife after verbally insulting her sons calling them bastards (which is not treason, it's true) which leads to Aemond losing an eye disabling the child (which even if calling them bastards wasn't true and was treason is an extreme response.) This on it's own should reflect poorly on her parenting skills as her children don't think any of this is an overreaction but to make matter's worse, she rejects any punishment for her own child but insist that Aemond should be tortured because of his comments, which once again are true! (because that is what sharply questioned means.) Her response to literally ever issue is to make her kids go to bed instead of actually parenting them in any way, and this never happens when her kids are in the wrong as a punishment she just makes them leave whenever she doesn't want to deal with them anymore. As evident by her children's role in war she hasn't at all prepared her children for anything, which she absolutely should have given this war was obviously building for literal decades. But for some reason only Alicent cops any backlash for this, when if anything only Aemond did anything to actually meaningfully prepare for the conflict. Also the narrative that Alicent doesn't love her children is crazy, she spends so much of her time with Heleana and Aemond really seems to respect his mother and go into harms way to protect her. Even though she doesn't have the strongest relationship with Aegon at the end of the day she to puts her body over him to try a shield him from Meleys at the coronation. When they have their tense moment when Aegon is grieving she is actively blaming herself for this death as well as grieving herself, which causes her to act the way she does, I mean we saw the frantic Rhae on the beach finding her son's body if she was still at that point in her grief when Jace arrived it's unlikely she would have had the same reaction as she did. It takes Jace at least a week to return to dragonstone from the wall, and while that might not seem like much she has had time to decompress, which leaves her only with sadness instead of anger and guilt as her driving emotion. Is Alicent a good parent either, no of course she isn't but people need to stop acting like Rhae is a perfect mother when she really is far from it even for Westerosi standards.

So my issue is Alicent plays both sides. So either the direction of her writing changed or she plays like she hasn’t been playing the game. I do agree she originally wasn’t trying to play it she was forced into it. But the scene where she comes in after Aegon was relieving himself to the world her words were to him “ he will be king”. That implies somewhere in her mind she want to take the crown from Rhaeynra, so she was playing the game. So she isn’t innocent she wasn’t just about duty. Also she clearly has favorites but never prepped or prepared her kids to rule though she wanted them too. She became Otto so I can see why she’s compared to Cersei who did the same but in still get a weird sense of more love from Cersei towards her kids. However I get Alicent didn’t choose to have hers like Cersei did. The scene with Aegon and scene with Otto about how she was playing the game showed me at some point they were going to have Alicent go darker then switch it Like she got overeager and misheard or misunderstood her husband.

This might be just me talking but I despise Alicent she's very hypocritical and is not a mother to her children she basically sees them as not her children. I always feel for Aegon the most he was neglected and treated like he didn't even exist.

We are used to seeing bad men in positions of power in media and history. It’s a trope afterall. Selfish men with power on their mind being the villain. This series has clearly disturbed many modern people. They can’t see two women both being equally bad people.
