Maverick the Harris Hawk Part 8 - Flying free on a grey winters' day and his new aviary!
It's been a while since a video about Maverick the Harris Hawk. Ryan has had him now for almost three years and he has become a very fit, fantastic flying bird. In this video, Ryan shows you the hawks' new enclosure, from the outside and the inside, weighing the bird and then taking him out to fly against the edge of the woodland on a misty January day in North Yorkshire, England.

Meet this 26 year old Euro Eagle owl that has got some very interesting history

Harry Potter has a lot to answer for when it comes to owls - in both the non factual use in the movies as well as it creating (bad in the late 90s) a bit of a popularisation of keeping owls. However, the movies did provide much loved entertainment and we can't complain when you consider the sheer amount of Harry potter themed parties, weddings and charity events that we attend each year with ou...
Owl Diary 70 Freezing cold weather can affect birds of prey
Переглядів 204День тому
Winter has certainly arrived - Ryan begins by checking his birds in the morning as the snow falls. The two female barn owls were due to fly free that day, so instead, Ryan carries out some indoor flying to keep up their training and to offer some enrichment. Also, a behind the scenes look at some of the other jobs Ryan has to complete and finishing with an explanation as to why cold weather can...

He's so pretty and fun to watch fly! I think foggy days are beautiful and very serene.
Hope everything was fine during storm Eowyn!
I work at that farm we are really excited and looking forward to it
That's fantastic, looking froward to seeing you when I'm next there
What owl do you think i should get for fun
Hi, as long as you plan it well and educate yourself then I would suggest a barn owl or Bengal eagle owl
@owladventuresuk ok thank u
Nice video.

Glad to hear your employee and the birds were ok in the accident. A shame about York though.
Hi, thank you. It's a shame about our York display but we have already managed to find a better alternative - a video will come out on that once it is confirmed.
I need that brain function you have. Such a shame about the van.
Thank you - I wish I could teach people how to think like I do (and other people could teach me things that they have too)
So, she's a retired movie star. nice
Beautiful bird
Super cutie beautie! 🥰🌹❤️🌹🙏 I adore owls. All birds, really! 🥰 I wish my peacock friends were this cuddly. 🌹
She's adorable!
Hi I’m after getting a tawny owl but I’m struggling to find wheee to rescue or buy can you give me some advise please
Hi, you're best finding a breeder for a tawny owl and putting your name down for one to buy at a young age to hand rear
@ Donyou recommend anyone
wouldn't you just promote getting the end game bird, the bird that you really want and doing all the research and gaining all the experience in order to get the knowledge on how to train and house that bird, because otherwise you get what always happens where someone gets a owl or harris hawk and then gets rid of it to get a red tail, then gets rid of that because the bird they actually wanted was a goshawk and you end up with these so called beginner birds getting sold for peanuts to one inexperienced handler to another... Thoughts?
She's gorgeous. I hope you'll manage to retame her :)
We will certainly try our best
Where you based mate? And is your centre open to the public? Cheers.
Hi, we are based in North Yorkshire but we are UK wide. We are sitting up a small centre in Southampton this spring
Brilliant, thank you for getting back to me. Find all your videos so brilliant and helpful. I’ve loved birds of pray since a kid and can’t wait to finally become a falconer one day. Been researching every given chance but there’s always something else to learn about. Thanks again.
Pest control with a raptor is not falconry. So you quit pest control.
Could a red tailed also slip onto your list of beginner birds, even perhaps at the bottom of the list?
Red tails are a more challenging species - probably next chapter as such
@@owladventuresuk Thanks.
My pfp right here is Wispa! ❤
Chicks are cheap enough but mice are ridiculously over priced. We bring our barn owl indoors (indoor aviary) when it gets really cold.
Yes, very true. Good work then
had my new Harris hawk in a fair few evenings and overnight as the weather up in scotland between xmas and new year was very very cold, has lifted the last couple of days though.
I can think that Scotland will be even colder than Yorkshire
I got the same score as you and was only tricked by the same picture as you were. On some of the AI pictures the talons gave it away as well. I guess even AI struggles with zygodactyl talons most of the time.
Well done. It's interesting to see how AI will improve over time.
I remember seeing Crunchie as a downy chick!
That was hard I only managed 7 outta 12.
Well that's a majority so well done. It's a good learning tool I guess too
This ticks me off - sometimes they even mix species or make the chicks look like miniature adults . Serious people use “Owls of the World .”
Yes, quite true
Cute AND gross I love it😊
Wild animals used for profit. Great.
Wait did you just say that Little Owls come from America?!? They're not native to UK and are from Europe.
Hi, they originally are an American species but were brought across over 200 years ago so found in most European countries now.
@owladventuresuk nope where are you sourcing that ? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_owl it doesn't even occur in the Americas
@owladventuresuk Little Owls are in no way originally an American species. Yes they were introduced to the UK in the 1800s but from their native range in mainland Europe/Central Asia/North Africa, not from America. They do bear a resemblance to the North American burrowing owl however!
@@amitgordon1 Hi, there is some conflicting information out there. They are very similar looking and DNA is close so originally (possibly thousand of years ago) when they lived in the same area. I think you may be right, I'm do more research.
I live in an area where tawny owls 🦉 are well in number xx love them
They are lovely to have around
I'm like Crunchie, I don't like sitting still very long either! 😂 He's lovely. I'm excited to see the "racing" video too, sounds fun! I watch a channel with pig racing (it's healthy, no bets, they're in the woods, all owned by the same person etc) and it's a real hoot to watch
Ha! That's great. Looking forward to filing the racing video, it should be good fun.
FOR THE LOOOOOOLLLLLS edit
Crunchy said , “humans talk too much ! “
Do you think Barn Owls from the UK have a better personality than Barn Owls from the US ?
I've only worked with a couple of American barn owl and many common barn owls so it's hard to say
American species tend to make cackling noises while roosting.
@@glassowlie I have heard of that
Best birds on God's planet. The mighty owl 🦉
Very interesting and informative video, thanks.
Thank you
Love Tawny Owls , but the US is deficient in them .
Yes, they are a Euro species really
@ Martin Windrow’s book started my interest.
I love Tawny owls
Why do british falconers use imperial measurements to weigh their birds?
I think it's the way we are brought up. From weighing ingredients in cooking to measuring a shed build, imperial is always the way
1:05 Oh yes, Dusty! My pfp now is Wispa
Hope you still will have a presence in the York Museum gardens often!
We are planning on returning this month providing the weather is OK
Good luck with your venture and I hope it all works out for you and your team.
Thank you, that's very kind to say
I have a tawny owl and it emits both female and male calls how can be sure what gender it is
Owls dont have a brain
Hope you come to the north east.
Hi, we already do. We have flying shows at Adventure valley near Durham during various dates in the summer
Glad youre thinking about how to make your work more sustainable!
Sounds like you've got an amazing 2025 in store, and a very busy one. Congratulations! Just don't forget to get your break from everything in there along the way!
Hi, I won't forget that, thank you
Love This ❤
Thank you for your comment
Very impressive!
Thank you, it's a real team effort but we are getting somewhere
Wow this all sounds super exciting 😁 congratulations and all the very best with these new ventures! 💕 🦉
Thanks Nicola
