A Norwegian Christmas carol medley
Переглядів 2 тис.3 роки тому
I created this medley and then improvised the harmony part using the acapella app. Enjoy! The four songs in the medley are: Musevise, O Jul med din glede, Deilig er den himmel blå and Deilig er jorden.

Ja, nå er det gjort

This is a vossarull dance meaning, "Yes, now it is done." I learned this from Andrea Een, who learned it from Lars Skjervheim.

How to tune a Hardanger Fiddle (hardingfele)
Hell instrument... 😍
love it
Voceoum Sanquinuum, Voice of the Blood. latin sp
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
nice!
The hardingfele is a transposing instrument, so when it's tuned in B-E-B-F#, the written C for the hardingfele is a cocert E and when it's tuned in A-D-A-E, the written C for the hardingfele is a concert D.
Close! If it’s tuned like a violin, but with a high bass (A,D,A,E), which is uncommon, if you read sheet music (also uncommon), it wouldn’t be transposing, except for the lowest string. In the common tuning of B, E, B, F#, if you read sheet music, you either transpose a while step down, or you would know that if you see a C on the page and play a C on your instrument, it would sound as a D. I hope that is helpful!
SØDE PIKE. SPILLER DU OGSÅ "NORAFJELLS"?
Er det et slått for hardingfele?
What wonderful music! The 2 flags behind you seem to be coming out of your head!
Haha, I know!
so helpful! thank you!
I'm so glad it was helpful!
Cool rhythms. Reminds me of Bartok's Mosquito Dance for two violins.
The resonance is unbelievable...
now a fiddle, two cellos, a violins strad, and seeking a double bass. r u still around.
What tuning are you using for this?
Standard tuning for Hardanger Fiddle. (from low to high, B, E, B, F#)
@@nesvigr Hahahah, I can't believe that is the standard tuning for it. What a strange instrument.
Thank you:)
Glorious!
I get so excited just to see you, thank you many times, Trondheim guy, Hebrew Slave
Just beautiful! Makes me think what other songs could use that wonderful hardanger fiddle touch :) Thanks for sharing!
I absolutely love improvising to this type of music. So fun!
what is the secret to restringing the sympathetic strings , keeping them from crossing each other under the fingerboard so that they resonate...?
They go under the fingerboard and each have their own lane they stay in so they don't get tangled. :) I have never re-strung mine before! I let a luthier who has experience with Hardanger fiddles do it for me.
@@nesvigrI HAD to restring because I THINK the strings were tangled when i got it. I also am learning that I like to tune top strings DADD (tre-bass) and sympathetics to E Grieg melody which you ? showed in video) i am enjoying my hardanger fele. i have been playing Scots Irish on it respectfully on it
IF i were to assign my sympathetic strings to "logically located" tuning pegs" on my hardanger fiddle... would the Norwegian hardanger police come and arrest me if its not in their tradition (first they have to find me hee hee)?
Haha! Highly doubt anyone would care!
can the sympathetic string tuners be lubricated with the "lubricant crayon" that I use on the "superior" strings? and make tuning 'easier and stable"
Oh wow! I've never heard of such a thing! Do you have more info? The sympathetic strings tend to stay pretty stable on my instrument. It's the top gut strings that are more temperamental, but it also depends on the instrument!
I am a sucker for pearl inlays too , how you tune" turned on the light " for me , I have a crush on Hardanger fiddle now, only time I ever saw Hardanger was in a violin store ....in a display case..youtube is convenient THANK you for responding
i irish/scottish, appalachian eccentric and via hardanger fiddle tutorials on very convenient You Tube ...am developing love for this Norwegian treasure. restringing looks tedious, tuning it also...a labor of love??
I have never restrung my sympathetic strings before! But the regular strings aren't bad to re-string. If you like Scottish music, I just released a Scottish/Norwegian fusion album called Crossing the North Sea. You can find it on bandcamp here: crossingthenorthsea.bandcamp.com
damn now i want a hardanger....I am fiddler since before you tube existed, aside from its decor which delightful IF you are a pearlahcolic" ( i just made that up) i like the droning strings. what a voice it has I play dobro because friend dropped his dobro into my lap one day and said "don't think guitar, think banjo"....the rest is eccentricity, i ve never touched a hardanger fiddle,,,,,thank you Rachel, now i want one ( dear St. Nicholas....)
This is such a goldmine for a hfele learner. I can and learn see the bowing, the accents, the technique everything. So helpful, thank you and please don't stop posting!!!
i love her.
that first bar immediately puts me in another place and time, long ago. sounds beautiful
I had never heard of the "hardanger fiddle" before. I had to google it. I will listen to more of your videos.
I don’t not hear anything.
I'm sorry you can't hear anything! :( My sound works fine? Good luck!
Same here and i don’t know why
1:24 🤣
Vixen into the new year 2024, u were not here, well anyway, I hope u r well and wish the best for you, no bruising, I did not get a new fiddle for christmas gonna find another way. c u then. Trondheim yeppur my grand fathers town so now I have photo's old but fun.
Hardanger fiddle is originated in Rohan and classic violin from old India lol
Møøøøøøøøøøøøøø 🙂
Really Captures the Spirit, yes it is a powerful piece, should have been in there with Vivaldi and Seasons like the Storm. May God bless this beautiful Woman. I am gonna save this to enjoy over and over again. Thank you,
Do you have any album recommendations that has a few of these tunes? I love listening to the ones on the album "From the Valley" by Andrea Een! But it's hard to find a consistent resource :) Love the "evolving" nature of these tunes.
Hi Rachel how are you, the Hair what happened now the wild one, Trondheim guy here, Helmer tamer of Horses, thank you
Rachel, I only hear you play for a couple of seconds. Demonstrate the differences by playing!
Could you play a Bach partita piece on this instrument? I cant find any online :(
Check out Lodestar Trio's album called Bach to Folk! Great place to get started!
Vixen, Trondheim, Bergen makes some great Garments of wool and they do it well, be safe and healthy and of course happy.
I often think that the Hardanger fele is made for playing across water. Sounds that are played for the girl ...on the other side of the fjord.... who you met at the wedding last year and fell in love with. Who listens and can't escape hearing your beautiful playing, and knowing it's meant for only her. And who knows that you will meet again at the baptism, in the spring...and maybe wonders if one day she might be persuaded to have your house-keys hanging from her silver bunad belt.
Gråteslaget means 'the cry' I think, as in 'the flood of tears.'
What a pleasant surprise to find on my feed!
Awww, thanks!
Im getting the Setesdal feels, thanks :- )
Why I. The world are they wearing masks on stage. Insanity.
This was recorded in August 2020 (I just discovered it in my files!). Also, if people want to wear masks, they should be allowed to.
I was a proud 'cape-wearer' in 1964! Batman required it.
So beautiful!
With autumn nearing in the Northern Hemisphere, this feels like a sleepy trip to the barn with a bucket in each hand, boots brushing through dewey grasses as the fog is just lifting.
1979-80 believe?, times eroded my memory, our U.S. Navy ship visited [ Kristiansand ] very charming. Thanks for showing us your skill on this interesting and ornate gem. Aug-31/2023.
Ummm Jeg hørte på rytmene og syntes det var veldig regelmessig. Verken Valdres eller Hardanger stil.

Brb, Aug-21-2023. Forgot (64.3 age) who when & channel wear eye 1st etc? youtube.com/@wulffenstejnhardangerfiddl1447 yup, repair vids our sew deer two hurt💔
I love these so much that I feature a Hardanger fiddle player in one of my novels. He's a traveling tent musician who kept a diary in the late 1800s to early 1900s. (Wish I could have found a great HF photo to use for the cover!)
Thank you 😊🤗
