this game makes me cry

the HAP section just makes me feel so sad. a place you're familiar with, that once had so many people and was once full of life, that you'd gotten attached to. just completely abandoned, never to be touched again. like when you join a minecraft server that you and your friends used to play on all the time, but everyone's drifted apart and it's just like a preserved piece of history. it's hard to describe how i feel playing the section, but it's done absolutely amazingly, so is the entire game

If you want to play BOTH games, play them in order. The first game is definitely the best sonic game ever, but FP2 somewhat manages to go beyond that, turning FP1 into a prehistoric relic.

I played throught this game twice, largely because of Vinny and Joel from Vinesauce. My favourite gag is that sound effects page where its just a guy making noises with his mouth. Its Neil Cicerega doing the sounds as a parody of his own Mouth Sounds and Mouth Moods remix albums.

I’ll always defend the older Mario games because they are creative and zany experiences despite their sometimes standard(today) world concepts. It’s just the New Super Mario U team tried about 1% as hard as the golden age devs at making things fresh and exciting.

It is explicitly stated that the estate of Briggs ordered the gooper takedown, you can find a statement about it on the Workers Alternative page hinted about on the bottom of the Give Me Money guy’s page. Like most, it changes dynamically based on your actions; if you keep going with the gooper bans in the y2k update Boppo’s convinces Gooper to partner with Merchantsoft, and Workers Alternative takes back the communism card they awarded the gooper estate.

This was a great review, this is the best 2d platformer and it always makes me happy to see people talking about it! As for Neera, her playstyle is pretty fun. Basically her attack while moving speeds her up. She also doesn't flinch when she gets hit while attacking. Dodging with a full meter lets her attack even faster. So basically you just kinda keep swinging and Neera goes insanely fast. However, her only vertical mobility tool, her upwards-helicopter thing, will take away this buff so you can't be totally thoughtless when platforming. She's definitely the least cohesively designed and probably still the least interesting to play, but she's still really cool in my opinion.

FP2 is one of those perfect sequels. The parry was really essential. I remember running into a lot of dumb damage in the first game.

I definitely understand the aversion to hosting things yourself. It's damn tough, and usually, there's not a lot of reward for doing so. But, it's the only way we can really try to keep the things we want running. It'd be nice if companies would take better care of the platforms that they set up, but they are businesses. They're there to make money. At the end of the day, we're staying in someone else's house. The only real recourse we have when they do something that makes us unwelcome, is to make our own spaces to fit our own needs. It sucks, but it's been a constant from the early net through to today. All of these things have happened before. All of these things will happen again.

I think Freedom Planet 2 is way better if you play it after the first game because its honestly the perfect example of what a sequel should be. Discovering all the new shit you can do and find compared to the first game was awesome. Easily one of my favorite games ever.

I love FP2 but can't ever get back to 2D Sonic without systems like parry as not a safety net, but a risk-reward without getting blindsided by archaic level design. The collectables do cater difficulty for both casuals and those challenging themselves. Can't wait what's cooking the summer update promised with physical release.

I can't wait for the Discord game in 20 years. No really, I can't wait. Discord is going to run out of money very soon and its going to be the big enshittification of 2024. I didn't like Hypnospace as a game (I came into this universe from Slayers X, go play it), but I can't deny its writing and worldbuilding are something else. I grew up in the Web 2.0 era having no memory of AOL trial CDs but reflecting on HSO's world, the kind of internet is depicts is very much that of myth -- like something that would be passed down by our parents. That they used to chart foreign lands, listen to shaving songs, and in general say so much with so few words. And then, like that, its mostly gone when the money dries up. All that remains are a few scraps on a hard disk somewhere. An entire library of Alexandria burned in our lifetime. Its then you realize what makes a myth, a myth: It survived the long tail of entropy.

I grew up with these games and love them but tbh i can see why casual platformer games would be extremely boring to someone. Maybe you would enjoy more difficult ones with less mario-esque level design, like celeste, super meat boy, classic contra games, idk :p

it's funny seeing someone talk about this game casually like it's a thing that just randomly popped up when it's production took a nightmarish 7 years measuring from its first trailer to the actual release date. like...this thing was so long in the oven that it's creator was a different gender by the time she finished it glad you like it though. It and the first game are very much what one could call sonic for queer girls; their energy and aesthetics come from a totally different place and caters to a wholly different audience, compared to what sonic prioritizes, which is kinda why it has the particular vibe that it does

I played the fuck out the first game on my Wii U, like a LOT a LOT. This game does look like a fine sequel but I haven't made the time to buy it or play it, hell I even downloaded the demo a few years back and found it felt kinda weird compared to the first game.

Eh, thought the game was mid at best. Doesn’t hold a candle to Sonic Mania or Pizza Tower.

It’s so clear that there is so much in this genre, and game in particular, to love, but I have always had an unexplainable hatred for sonic games. For some reason it always feels to me like there are ways to play it to have the most fun and I was always doing it wrong, that’s not quite it (I did say it was unexplainable :P) but it’s safe to say they eek me. Great video!

That part with the teen girl getting harassed really stood out to me. Like I'm staring at the tools and there's not anything that matches and I think that was a big "Oh shit, I get it now" moment. Absolutely love this gem of a game and I cannot wait for Dreamsettlers. Oh and the shooter game is actually incredibly fun and a funny spinoff in that world
