The Cutlass Gets a 350 Chevrolet Small Block!
After a year of waiting, the moment has finally arrived! We have finally received the rebuilt 350 small block Chevrolet engine from the machine shop! Its time to shoehorn this thing into the 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass. After hitting the dyno, this 350 put down around 500 horsepower at the crank. Soon we will be taking it down the drag strip to see what kind of times it can put down!

Cleaning A Turbo In 5 Minutes
Переглядів 4,3 тис.9 місяців тому
We're removing the VNT turbo off of this 2002 Volkswagen Jetta TDI with the ALH engine and giving it a good cleaning. The car is over-boosting which can cause limp mode problems and even turbo failure if left untreated for an extended period of time. This car has a VNT 15/17 hybrid turbo, but the process should be the same on all older generation turbos, such as VNT15, VNT17, VNT17/22, and VNT1...

Can We Fix This Big Turbo Mazdaspeed 3?
I'm putting .216 in my Jetta next month hopefully it wakes up also putting a dsg 6 speed into my mk4
I had 2 LV2s, one in an Olds 98, the other in a Cadillac FWB. Both had over 500,000 on them when I sold them, except for Water Pumps, the engines were never touched
Good engines for sure, not much in the power department
What's up Gas house what size carb are y'all going with
750 double pumper
Booooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We don't put Chevy garbage in an Olds. Boooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!
We need more good videos even just driving it and going over the mods not even spending money just miss this
We recently recorded a timing belt and injection pump video, coming soon :)
Dude I check every month for more videos :((
Why’s anybody talking about horsepower in a diesel? It’s the torque that matters.
Before I can upgrade to this , i need to replace All my Vac lines , middle summer was going up long steep hill and had No Boost im like wtf , i got brakes tho no vac to turbo , looking to find where to get new vac lines now she has 330k
You can buy a roll of vacuum line for these cars and cut it up to size. I’d figure out the root cause of the issue though. It’s also possible your turbo is dirty so the actuator arm on the the turbo may be stuck
@ thx ill chk it out , a vacuum gauge was hooked up to line that goes to that Bubble thing and there was no vacuum ,i dont use car in winter (salt) so i fix stuff in basement garage
underrated om606 comment 3:23 shout out to the diesel guys 🫡
Where’d you get the cam from?
These were custom re-grinds from a performance shop. However it’s very similar in spec to the 4.0L cams you can order from SuperSixMotorsports
Hey brother give me the page bay intercooler kit place
Intercooler kit is from Darkside, it should be linked in the video description 👍
Bro bring the golf vids back!
There will be more soon hopefully! Trying to wrap up the cutlass but it has been a bit of a headache
@GasHouseGarage right on man, I love seeing what u guys have been doing to the golf, made me wanna make mine into a track car
I have a 1987 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme four-door and I’m trying to put a 350 small block in it could you give me some advice?
Are you looking for anything specific? The best advice really is to do as much research as you can on the swap before starting, you’re already off to a good start by watching videos 👍
Guys my 2007 polo 1.9 tdi 130 hp original with a gtx 1756v, complete exaust 70mm with the stock injectors pumps and a stage 2 ecu remap produce 236 hp at the cranck and 206 at the wheels, 509 nm of torque at the cranck and 458 at the wheels.
The PD’s are definitely more capable out of the box than the older VE engines, that’s for sure!
@GasHouseGarage Oh yes man, ty for the response and good luck for the tuning. Im happy to see diesel engine tuning 😎
I have this 307 in 1984 delta 88 royale brougham I think I blew the head gasket water coming out of exhaust pipe
That doesn’t sound good! Hopefully it’s a quick fix
@GasHouseGarage still runs and drive
Its so strange seeing Darkside stuff in US when they are literally just up the road from where I live
Quick delivery too! Got the whole kit shipped over in about a week. Impressive really. I will say US customs did hold the turbo for another week or so…
how much hp you are aiming for? i have a ~200 hp 1.9 tdi Škoda Octavia 1z5 Combi im aiming for 250
With this setup around 200whp. The injectors are good up to around 270’ish, might end up going bigger turbo down the road as that’s what the limiting factor is right now. That and the bottom end
What’s the name of the machine shop?? & The dunk guy?? & did u do a lot of the work yourself
Heintz brothers up in Troutman NC put the engine together, and Gibbons Motorsports in Mooresville NC did the dyno. Everything else we’ve done ourselves
.280 is too big holes, too much smoke. get .200 or .205 with 8 holes.
Nasty coal xd
How much did tgis set up cost you all in ? Also do you have the pd150 ARL?
This is a ALH engine, VE90. The setup was around $3k but opted for the more expensive option. You can do something similar for around $1500
It will eat camshafts, beware ;)
I believe only the PD’s have this issue. ALH’s will usually destroy buckets before the camshaft goes
great work !
Thank you!
Why your check engine light still on
Welcome to the channel! That’s the airbag light
I have qwestion i have afn engine and Im asking if i change turbo what turbo can fit to and what elese should i change or just turno and ok ? ? Mine is 110 hp right now
If I’m not mistaken the AFN is the more powerful version of the AHU, both of which are predecessors of the ALH. It should have a waste-gated turbo. What year model car is the engine in?
@@GasHouseGarage 1998 tdi stock
I believe those have the VNT turbo. You can likely swap in a GTB series or higher without much modification. It’ll need custom pipework most likely. Also I believe those ECU’s need to be chipped tuned so you would need to send it out for someone to tune it. The injectors should be the same design as ALH. I recommend JAM injection. I would do your own research as well to confirm
What's the fuel consumption like?
Same as stock if not a little better, just keep ya foot out of it and you’ll still get 50-55 highway
@@GasHouseGarage nice! thanks for the answer
No problem!
Donde puedo conseguir los inyectores?
Company called JAM injection
What happened to ur golf dude, looks like this is ur last vid and ur vids were giving me motivation!!!!
Still got it! We’ve just been busy on other projects lately. More to come!
1756 is baby turbo. Like turbo from audi 2.7tdi zzzzzzzzz
im just gonna spray water in it
bigger nozzles are the key for power. Also that turbo is very small on hot side exducer vs compressor inducer. There's other option for 56mm compressor. Why that kind of intercooler with in/out on the same side? By the way, neither conrods or head bolts of ALH aren't adequate for those 220bhp which you talk about, because those hp it came with some 450NM of torque. Not to mention that 228mm standard clutch which will slip first tine when you'll got some grip OR if you would push the throttle to the floor in 4th gear from 2200rpm (when you will have 220bhp-using stock nozzles that will never hapen) I use daily a vp37 tdi, but only crankshaft and block are stock in my engine now..
The intercooler is walled so it is like two thinner intercoolers stacked. Flow goes in on the bottom half and is routed into the upper half on the side without piping. Then comes out the top half to the engine. The engine has head studs. Horsepower isn’t the problem with the VE TDI’s its torque. You can make higher horsepower figures if you rev them higher without damaging the rods. The tune was made so power doesn’t come in until around 3200 rpm’s or so and goes all the way to redline. We are running bigger nozzles and full flow injectors (.280’s) and the turbo is good to around 220-230bhp. There are people making 250+ on stockALH internals with de-lipped pistons. It’s all about what RPM the power kicks in at. So far the clutch is holding but I suspect the previous owner had put a G60 clutch in at some point. Be sure to check out the next video where we install the larger injectors!
What seats are those and are they comfy? Did they fit right over factory studs or did you have to do some fab work?
Seats are Jeggs PN: 555-70241 GS1. We had to make some simple bracketry to fit them in the car. They feel good! We haven’t driven the car with them yet but they seem to be well made

My favorite car
curious of the catch can setup. i didnt think u needed them on a 15. maybe some links and sizes so i can do the same on mine.
The catch can is a MANN pro-vent. Inlet and outlet is 25mm
u can install the traction control button to turn it off. you gotta tap into the harness where the dpf used to be. i put the button in the glove box. theres a video for it.
did you reset clutch adaptations? "In the trans menu of VCDS find "Reset start point adaptation to factory setting". Once that is complete hit "Stop" on the top right corner. Next find "Clutch Engagement Point Adaptation". Again, when that is complete hit "stop" and you are ready for the test drive part. This next step has taken me on the high side due to traffic about 1.5 of driving to fully re-adapt the clutches."
Yeah we did the adaptation. It helped a lot after the tune for sure
@@GasHouseGarage we need more of this car too . love the channel. and tdi's
Hi can i ask how many kw was this golf in stock?
Like 67 kw (90hp)
@@GasHouseGarage okay i have same engine
They’re tanks for sure
What kind of header you have
Headdman headers 1-3/4 long tubes
@@GasHouseGarage hello brother pls do have a part# pls im having trouble finding the right long tube headers for my 82 cutlass with 383 stroker
It’s: Headman Husler 65218-6
If you dont mind me asking what caused the engine to take a yr? In the machine shop?. Im very weary of using machine shop nearby since i can get full balanced rotating assembly and blocks but they are standard bore stroke builds etc. im wanting to send my old sbc off to a shop to build a 355 but friends of mine have waited a month just to get bored 30 over 😐.
The first go-around at the machine shop we had the engine refurbished. After they refreshed the engine we discovered cracked heads, so we had to take it back with different heads. That’s what took so long for the most part
bro just wait if you need your car purchase some stock 350 you can’t rush work like it’s always you kinds of customers that want shit done in a day but then when shit goes south you blame the guy that did it when in reality you didn’t give him enough time to do his job if you expect a machine shop to be done in less than a week then expect to have to spend more money when shit goes wrong
@seanutrera3613 no I hear ya just saying I do most the work myself and buy blocks that are good to go. Just I get tired of hearing machine shops doing people like this. A lot of them don't even do the work properly I am a mechanical engineer and mechanical as well as machinist but can't afford my own equipment I only farm my work out to very specific people who have the time in a machine shop. Have had other work done there besides the 350. Most of the time I can get a block back from clean up and boring after a week. Have been weary of using other local shops because of friends engines being stuck in limbo for over 6 months. I drive 45 mins to go to my shop takes at most a week for any machine work however I do assembly on my own so that's different if they are doing it for sure it makes sense for it to take longer.
@seanutrera3613 usually all they do is bore it and clean I do everything else myself due to the iffy shops around here as well as labor cost. Only thing is head work I usually farm out to a shop. That's why I kept my STD. Bore this time found a block that was low mileage 2300$ total cost. I could have done a 5.3 for cheaper but I like the SBC too
@@GasHouseGarage wow that would have stressed me the hell out 😔.
Dude the link for the intercooler is wrong and I literally ordered it and have my car all torn apart realizing the pipes are all wrong…
Should’ve been this link
Are you sure? I just went through the purchase history and the link in the description is what is we ordered. Maybe Darkside sent you the wrong intercooler? Also what turbo do you have? What pipes don’t fit? Did you get the euro crash bar?
@@GasHouseGarageyes I’m sure, I’ve got the same turbo now, the top side pipe is different and the silicones are different, the link you’ve got in the description is the kit for a pd130, not the VE90/110, intercooler is the same everything is the same except for the top side pipe and silicones
@@GasHouseGaragecan you send me a picture of the bottom pipe/silicone connected to the turbo? I’m trying to figure out the proper clocking and if the bottom pipe was fabbed wrong or not
Wot turbo you running
GTB1756VK
I got 1856 with darkside front mount full sleeper very happy
Wats done to the car
Larger turbo and a tune, but in this clip stock turbo and tune
Where is the beetle
That’s the only one we’re missing hahaha
Some people confuse the problems of the 403 with the 307. People think that the 307 has weak webbing, but that was true for the 403 because the bores where so big that the webbing had to thinned out. The 403 only made 185 HP, which was almost the same as the high output 307; also about the same power as the smog controlled Olds 350. I dare say that the high output 307 is why the Olds 350 was the first 350's to get killed off by GM. Of all the malaise era 5 liter V8's, in my opinion, the Olds 307 for the win; I do feel the Olds 307 kicks the crap out of a Chevy 305 or even the Pontiac 301. The standard 140 Hp 307 was R.P.O code LV2 with VIN code "Y", while the high output, 180 HP 307 was R.P.O code LG8 with VIN code "9". What was done to make the 307 high output was that it used pretty much the camshaft from the 455, stiffer valve springs, & a larger vibration dampener; the heads where otherwise the same.
ive got a olds 307 from a 83-84 delta 88 pretty sure its the 5a heads, wondering if you have any build info or good parts list for a OK street build. looking to put it in my 86 camaro with a 2.8. got the engine for free and just wanna use it. its very clean.
@@hakaii__1816 Visit Edelbrock, they make stuff for the 307. A cool thing to know about Oldsmobile, is that there is interchangeability between their small blocks & big blocks; at least with the valvetrain components. You'll have to find a good machine shop that will do up your engine block well, as well as your heads. The stock heads are pretty decent and you port and polish them to better work with the various valvetrain kits that Edelbrock offers. I would go to Summit Racing to see if they have any performance heads for the 307.
What motor mounts did yall use? I’m about to drop a Sbc 350 in an 87 cutty. Plan on using the stock 200r4 trans. Can’t wait to see the next video!
Look up UMI 90059. Note that it doesn’t bolt up to the stock location
You want hose clamps on your catch can hoses, you will blow them off and have oil everywhere
Nice nice! I do have a 2014 Jetta TDI and I would like to have something like yours. Congratulations
this is old for sure. but why do folks upgrade the turbo before upgrading the exhaust/intake manifold? Flow is a big concern on this platform (esp on the intake side).
The stock turbo on this car had blown seals. We figured might as well upgrade if it was going to get replaced
Does anyone know if a sbc bell housing and the olds 307 are the same?
From my understanding they are not
@@GasHouseGarage ever heard about the th2004r coming out with a multi pattern bell housing? I measured my 350 sbc and the hole are in the right spot to bolt up to the bell but idk about anything else.
