Can the Palm Canyon Epic be Ridden on a Hardtail?
Trying to save on the $200 per year Zwift fee. I'll give this a shot.
Yeah. To save $200 it’s awesome. Let me know your thoughts once you’ve tried it.
Can you explain the import from zwift section please.
From the web site you can click import. You then enter your total mileage and elevation gain from Zwift and they will review your data and add it to your account a few days later. You will then level up based on that data. I went from level 10 to level 59. And I got all the level up rewards.
It looks great, and free! But at what price? I'm no expert but I'm a little concerned over the whole "sports-washing" debate around nations like the UEA using sport and sports based apps like this to try and change the narrative over its human rights records and the impact it has on global warming (amongst other things). I'm going to do a bit more research on this before I dive in.
Yeah. You can't overlook the whole sports-washing thing. For me, I would be more concerned if I was sending them money. But Free makes it work for me.
I have done several 24 hours mtb adventures and multi days mtb exploring routes and I can tell: 1 ) The 1 cent Fender, that thing will fligh aways in the first downhill section or probably after minutes 2) there are reflective sticker on amazon just $4 US and has 36 pieces different colors and have lasted on my frame for the whole entire time, I haven't had to replace. 3) bottle cage I would do is use the black tape to cover the fork and then with a zipper I would wrap it, 500 ml of water will make that bottle roll through the trails easily. 4) wrapping cables old school worked but eventually with the time comes off 5) when you punch is better to use slime and that if it leaks, use a patch and stick it internally, will hold more than the duck tape. In general we are generating waste to the nature but is respectable your proposal.
Thanks for your thorough list of thoughts. 1. I've been using the front fender for many years and it has NEVER fallen off. I live in Seattle where it gets lots of rain and mud. But I've also raced from Portland Oregon to Washington DC and many other bikepacking trips with this hack. And zero issues. 2. There's no shortage of reflective options. But if you don't want them permanently on your bike then this hack helps. I've ended up with lots of reflective stickers permanently on my bike because I didn't use this hack. I like making my bike super visible for bikepack racing, but then returning it to stock after the race. 3. Zip ties don't work well as they tend to slide down a fork. Tape doesn't slide. But in reality, a combination is a good idea. 4. Yes, tape on cables will eventually start to unwrap. But its an easy fix. I've had zip ties cut into cables so I don't go that route anymore. 5. Tape will not fix a flat. It is for fixing a slashed sidewall. Slime won't work here nor will a tire patch kit. You need something to keep the tube from protruding out through the slash in the tire. You can buy a boot from Park Tools or just use tape. This hack got me through Trans North California after I slashed my sidewall in the first 15 miles. An energy bar wrapper can work well too in a pinch.
@@TroyOnTrails Best vibes. Keep up, your content is interesting.
What do you think? What is MyWhoosh missing for you?
I tried this on Apple TV a few months ago and its graphics were super bad. I wonder if they have improved the Apple TV version. I like the fact that they will put pressure on Zwift to do more and be better.
I don't have an Apple TV so I can't say. But I tested it on a new Windows laptop (looked gorgeous), an old low-end laptop (looked good, but slow framerate), and an iPad (Looked good, just a bit less detail than the PC)
I agree! I just tried it this morning on an Apple TV 4K and was surprised that the graphics were so poor. I’m hoping they improve it soon as everything else seems great.
@@TripAstute I've heard some of the newer worlds like California have better graphics, but can't confirm. I've tried and failed to find any screen shots of what it looks like on an Apple TV. 😥
Any mod for the rear wheel
Right now, I spend money on an original Ass Saver fender. But have some ideas to make one for super cheap. Gonna have to post that.
I've been using it for a bit. It's amazing for anything where you stay in the saddle but I find out of the saddle it's a bit all over the place side to side. The lockout is always available but I kind of wish it has one of those half way modes like a climbing mode on a modern shock. Anyways it fixed my pain problems for the long Z2 rides so I can't be too picky.
I find the transition from sitting to standing to be the worst as there's a lot of movement. But then it settles down for long out-of-the-saddle stints. But I don't do many all-out sprints.
Great idea. Doesn’t work
What do you mean. It works great. I've been doing this for years. If you have very little space between your tire and fork then its pointless, but if there's a gap, covering it prevents bud and water from flying into my face and glasses. This has gotten me through many wet rides in Seattle and make riding year-round more enjoyable.
now we need a 1 cent ass saver
Hmmm. I have some ideas. But it may cost a few cents.
Excellent hack! I will add it to the toolkit. Cheers
Awesome. It's super handy.
I want to get a smaller drone for mountain biking and had been considering the Neo. Having seen this, I’m definitely thinking that the Neo is just what I’m looking for.
It all depends on the type of riding you do. If you want to capture you flying down an insane jump line, it will struggle. But for me its perfect.
Ok, this is going on the "list" as retire in a few months. Any opportunities to fish along the way, as in easy river crossings where someone could wade and fly fish? Just curious. Great video, love the music!
I don't know what makes a good fly fishing river but yeah there are several crossings. It was hard to gauge the river as they were all running high thanks to a hurricane.
If your seatpost drops, how will you know? The tape will slide up. Pro-tip is to leave a 1cm gap between the bottom of the tape and the top of the seat collar. This way if it slips, you will actually be able to see it and fix it, hopefully before it move the tape too
The tape actually bunches up rather than sliding. This makes it very obvious when your saddle drops.
Absolute BS. It will pick up debris, and the Gravel King SK hauls lots of it. That tape will come off in no time. Even with a full fender on any tire you will get the blow back.
I've been using this for YEARS in Seattle so I know rain and mud. It works great and has NEVER fallen off. It doesn't keep me clean, but it keeps stuff from flying into my face and glasses. It costs next to nothing, so give it a try and you will be surprised. I do a lot of bushwhacking, singletrack, etc. so full fenders aren't a good option. This is and an Ass Saver is all I need.
I’m in my second year of Zwift. I feel like this video has some BS in it. If you’re considering Zwift, - The training plans are excellent - The workouts offer lots of flexibility and are so convenient, they have destroyed me in the past. - Zwift offers different ftp tests (do this first) - The group rides are fun I have done workouts on Zwift that have had me on the brink of failiure nearly all the way through. When you complete one of these it’s amazing. Vs a turbo trainer without a game I give up. Zwift I actually enjoy. You can use your iPhone don’t need a laptop or iPad with Zwift. Zwift teaches you about using your aerobic system and muscles. You can see estimated heart rate zone which is great if you want more insight. If you are someone who wants to train regardless of fitness level, with maximum convenience I’d say go zwifting. I’m a dad, I work full time and more. I had no time to ride consistently. Zwift has given me the opportunity to ride on evenings, I’ve improved FTP and endurance, you don’t have loads of gear to wash get ready in etc.
Nice Review. 👍🏻👍🏻 Love from INDIA
Thanks. I'm glad you liked it!
Now in winter I have the following numbers: The device lasted 60 hours on one battery charge. GPS on AUTO, connected with two sensors. I like the Dura and never used my old one :D
Yeah. Seems like auto is the same as dual frequency.
I'd recommend using fiberglass tape. Will not stretch.
Fiberglass tape is a good alternative.
What about the mud coming back off the bottom of the tyre towards you? My mountain bikes have a "crud catcher" (UK) to drop this crud onto the ground. I also put a chopped up two litre water bottle in front of the front mech (if mud really bad) ... the rear derailleur is more difficult to protect!
As you noted. This does nothing to protect your body or the bike. I generally don't worry about any of that. I just keep it off my face so I can see.
What do you think about a couple of zip ties (with the tape underneath)?
Depending on the cage. Some designs won't work as the zip ties will prevent a bottle from going in. Be sure to still tape the cage to the fork so it doesn't slide down.
Why???!!! This seems like a bad idea😬 better to buy a velcro silicone lined bottle cage adapter
Why? Free is why. It works great. Not everyone has the budget to buy new stuff.
Wouldn't it make more sense taping the back of the forks as thats the direction of travel
I feel like it should be as far forward as possible to block as much spray as possible. But I've never tried it. So let me know how it works out.
So what happens a few years down the road when the battery is wearing down? Can you replace it?
Yes. The battery is removable for replacement. There's a door on the bottom side of the bottom bracket. If you remove that and remove the cranskset and bottom bracket then the battery can be slid out the bottom.
Wish this was real and not a paid ad.
I actually wish it was a paid ad. I could use the money. But I have zero relationship with Rouvy. I haven't spoken with them and they have no idea I exist.
I bought the X9 Ace from your last video, and so far, everything has been working perfectly! Thank you for sharing it
Awesome. Glad it was helpful.
Which one is better, AsperX or Fanttik X8? I'm tired of products that break after just one or two uses. Fanttik's pump looks like it's high quality, will it last longer?
I tried not to compare them too much since they are different. The Fanttik is much bigger AND more expensive. The Fanttik seems extremely well built. I’ve had the Fanttik for six months with no issues.
What do you think? Handy cycling accessory, luxury item, or pointless gadget?
That’s a reyt shout
Not sure what that means. 🤷♂️
I have been wanting to try out that fanttic pump it looks nice.
It's an impressive machine both in size AND performance.
$20 aliexpress
Careful. I've heard others aren't getting what they expected. I hope it works out for you.
How is this a hack? Electrical tape is far from water proof. Water will easily creep under the tape and it'll fall right off. 🤦🏻♂️
I've been using this for years. It works great and the tape has NEVER fallen off. Watch the full tape hacks video and you will see me pull it off after a year of use. And I live in Seattle so I know rain and mud.
Also weight savings!
True. The cheapest AND lightest fender!
@ lol legit. To be honest money is in short supply for alot of people so don’t no one feel ashamed having to do off beat sh*t. Just get some black gorilla tape(I swear by that shit) it’s tough as fook and just so much utility!
@ I recommend electrical tape because it is Much easier to remove later. But do what you need to do for sure.
@ bro we could even go as far as upscaling a bit. Reverse tape the opposite side to leave no sticky edge open. On my arctic leopard I destroy my mud flap. So I gorilla taped me a new one
I also take the As2 pro with me on rides, perfect size to performance@
Awesome. It's weird how much I use it now.
How about a trailer to haul the air pumps, then you can be a hero2 4/7?😉
I like the way you think! 😜
Is this compatible with true axle?
Yes. It has pieces to work with quick release and all the common thru axle standards.
79,99$ for a pump...... just get a normal one lmao
Definitely a luxury item. But a decent floor pump isn't any cheaper these days.
Hawk twah?
That's one way to go.
I have a recommendation, try looking for the bosh wireless cordless tire inflator. I have one for two years already! And it's good for cars and bikes(don't worry it doesn't have a bike/ball/car/motorcycles)
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to check it out.
thanks for your honest review. what i like in zwift is the running feature, what i dislike is the pricing policy. unfortunaly i don't want to purchase a new bike each time i change the software, and my bike seems natively compatible with zwift and kinomap. so it's probably better if i get stick to theses optimised applications.
It may be worth checking out My Whoosh. It's free and has a running option.
@@TroyOnTrails i saw it looks promessing but no brands feature it on its product page. i'm looking for reebook fr30, i don't know if virtual gear brings an advantage, but i don't want to put $1300 in that investment neither.
Excellent review thank you for sharing
Thank you. And thanks for watching.
Just switched to MyWhoosh and it's just free Zwift but seems interesting to have real world locations. Although in my case I practically never look at the in game world I'm watching riding videos or youtube. But real world locations might be something that is actually interesting instead of some random video game world.
I'm planning to try Whoosh soon.
goog review....ty
You are very welcome!
That is totally useless
Don't knock it till you try it. I've been using it for years. I live in Seattle so I know rain. Singletrack, gravel, and road. It's perfect for all three. I use it year round.
Tbh fenders are kinda boring fkr me
Fenders ARE boring.
@TroyOnTrails fr
I dig fenders😂
This is genius.
Yet so simple. 😀
I live in Yorkshire England it would last a milli second before coming off. 😊❤
I live in Seattle. All rain all the time. You would be surprised how well it works and how long it lasts. Just make sure your fork is clean before applying the tape.
@@TroyOnTrailsit’s not just the rain, it’s the drizzle, the mizzle, the fog, the mist, the wind, the potholes all together. On paper British weather isn’t that bad. In reality it’s the worst in the world. That’s why we conquered India, Australia, Southern Africa, just to get out of the wind and wet
Tha reyt tha nose
@theinternet8853 Yup. 👍
I'm from London and I can confirm. This man loves gravey 😊
It's useless if you can't change the battery, particularly out on a long ride where you may get more than one flat. you need to beable to put a fully pre-charged battery instead of running out of battery while out on a ride.
I'm able to Inflate a tire three times on one charge. But I consider it a luxury item that makes life much easier. I still carry a small hand pump just in case. I just haven't had to use the hand pump yet. But I like redundancy. I no longer carry co2
Old school mountain bike trick. Doesn't help the drive train, though. 😢
Exactly. So many are skeptical but we did this for years with an old innertube on mountain bikes.
this is the front wheel.
@ yes. Front wheel only.
I think wheel rolls in other direction and will be spraying you from the other side… 🫣
