Totally agree with your views on modern cars. Lotus don't make cars like the exige anymore, and other car makers produce such heavy/driver assisted cars. I look forward to the day I own one.

Makes a pleasant change to havs a car that gives smiles and excitement at speeds within the limit. More modern, powerful cars don't seem to be "happy" unless they are at theee-figures plus. Id certainly own one for solo trips. I take it that it can be covered forcthe hotel car park?

Having watched that, I've got to go out and drive my Exige 410 now. Great video, they are fabulous cars. Roof off is even better.

Lotus cars are special. My first was an Europa S in 2012. I've owned an Evora Launch Edition since 2014 (it's my GT car), and I got an early Elise S3 with NA 2ZZ engine for track days a couple of years back. Both are head turners. I'm just missing an Exige to then have the Lotus Trinity. Can't make my mind up whether I'd have the supercharged 2ZZ S2 version or the 2GR-FE powered S3. I don't mind the parts bin components. The Vauxhall stalks on the Elise and Focus Mk1 stalks on the Evora are fine by me. Just to correct a couple of things mentioned in the video though, the Elise/Exige door mirrors are from the Rover Metro and the Excel door handles, whilst similar looking to the Marina item, were actually from the Toyota A60 Supra.

Would love to drive an Exige. I've had a Lotus Evora 400 and a Lotus Evora GT in the states. I'm definitely team Lotus.

I'm on my third Elise and despite trying in the past I can't live without a lotus in my life. Finding myself tempted by an Exige all the time!! It would be good to understand all the things Eliott has changed on it and who did them for him. An amazing car.

Hands up who has read about this car In EVO magazine for years? When it was first in they were quite rare so often I used to be the first thing I turned too when my subscriber copy of EVO hit the mat (get back in those days). I used to marvel at the maintenance costs and think wow imagine having the dosh to run one of those!

Having never cared for Ferraris and never heard of a 355 and never driven one I was just "forced" to buy a red/black 1998, F1 Berlinetta from an ex who's husband had died 5 years ago. Apparently her in laws made the estate settlement horrendous and had put her in debt over the course of 5 years of court battles. The car had been sitting in a climate controlled garage for 4 of the five years and all the tires as well as the battery had gone flat. As the only real car guy that she knew other than her husband she priced the car so low I bit my lip and committed to take my chances on all the maintenance horror being visited on me from day 1 forward because she would not allow it to be started and I agreed. To my shock, surprise and utter glee the tires held air, the battery took a charge and after a thorough inspection/oil change the shop I hired to inspect it taught me how to drive with flappy paddles for the first time. I have a beautiful black 2002 Lotus Esprit V8 that is a 200 MPH beast but I think I love this much slower 355 as much or more right now. I get the feeling this Ferrari is going to change my life in a good way and I can't stop smiling thinking about the symphony I heard coming from the back of the car on the first test drive.

Tbh, I'd still take the 12C over any of its successors. The 12C still looks the best to me before McLaren ruined it with a P1 nosejob on the 650S.

Lovely story. I've only had my F355 16 years. They do get under your skin. Cars were a motivator for me too. I think a gated Ferrari will always be one of the ultimate cars now, the way things have gone since.

The blue lotus does look very smart.

I was never a fan of the Countach. It always looked awkward angles and flat panels. Diablo on the other hand is a beautifully aggressive car. It is a good colour. Another superb video Simon and Simon. You sound like a 70’s detective duo 🤣

Incredible history. I’ve mentioned before Simon, I met you in either late September October 2004 or 2005. You were at Oulton Park and there were a few of us from U.K. section of Fchat there. You took the niece out of that ‘reputable’ (tongue in cheek) supercar dealer who sponsored ClubScud. You came back safe and sound, both exited the car closed the doors, the car laughing to itself locked the doors. We stood there in the late evening cold, keeping warm off the Murci’s running engine whilst you waited for breakdown company to get us in. Surprise surprise because the breakdown chap had never had to break in to a Murcielago up to that point 😄

In my opinion the best sounding Ferrari ever glad to hear somebody telling the truth £1,000 a year to keep is exactly right if you don't abuse them even the valve guides don't wear out if you warm the engines up if you're not heavy with your foot the clutch will do 50,000 miles easily recommend you change the clutch if the pedal is getting hard sign of worn clutch plate before you ruin the flywheel now that is expensive.. a must for this car is a sports exhaust the sounds great 👍cam belts you don't need to change them every 3 years every 5 is soon enough,,. longer I've actually done,,, issues with these 355 is very rare only the abused cars give trouble great video enjoyed every bit of it😊
