The Process started out hard for all of us puppy people... but after some time & listening to it again and again, The Process has become one of Puppy's best albums to a lot of us. It doesn't overtake Too Dark Park or even Last Rights... but I love The Process!

right, so icebreaker did indeed originally come from bites, and when it was added to remission they created the track manwhole (which you spoke of at 2:58) and it's basically the same intro except it becomes a different song, so I think the made it as a kind of "reimagining"

always like the small hidden clap effect in Genesis, riped from 50 cent - in the club. I always amazed by that fact, when a new french electronic band or personel droped their very first album they became a big hit. Daft punk - Homework Air - Moon Safari Cassius - 1999 Justice - Cross Jarre - Oxygen The Blaze - Dancehall

Autechre is a rabbit hole, really. you have all of the 90s stuff which is already a lot and then all the post LP5 works. you need sometimes several listening to really appreciate an album, some of them are long and you always seem to discover something new each time you listen to something. I wish I could listen to their music for the time again.

It seems like we have the exact same taste in books as well as music! I finished lotr last year and started The Silmarillion last week after finishing the mistborn trilogy lol. Since you liked the poetic nature of lotr, I strongly recommend reading The Silmarillion if you haven't already. I have only read the first four chapters, but it is almost even more beautiful than lotr.

Aphex the goat !! Went to that Forwards gig too, honestly changed my life, it was phenomenal. The whole set was a cherry on top of one consistent, smashing EU tour . The ONE track I wanted to see live, Mangle 11 (the choon you played in an example clip for the show), and the geezer played it to line up that magnificent noise wall crescendo. Life sorted!! Shoutout Weirdcore and Ze.Zima (Alfie Dwyer) for them extravagant visuals, especially the one where all of his iconic characters were on the tube. That dubstep track you talking about is Gauss Cannon by Nullboy. It was sooo out of the blue and he managed to pull it off sooo cohesively !! The whole jungle section too, he played Red Light - Selektah and displayed aphexified Bristolian legends in the background. Everyone booed at JK Rowling and everyone cheered for Sophie! Poetic justice 😮‍💨😮‍💨. Eitherway, S is rightfully deserved for that. Hoping in another 4 - 5 years time, he’ll do another tour!

You missed 1 very big important issue The Process had, which is why it sounded so disjointed. The band was fighting, Ogre left the band at this time, having drug related issues, and they signed with American Recordings. American Recordings wanted to change their sound to be less "Skinny Puppy", and to structure towards an accessible NIN sound. Which they were fighting trying to not go down that direction, with all the other chaos going on in the background.

awesome review. cacola's my favourite artist and it's really nice to see an in depth review of her discography. sub world unknown is probably one of my favourite album's of hers surprisingly, mainly due to how i interpret its story. through the tone of the tracks and the titles, it feels like someone going through a very religiously traumatising childhood before slowly learning to love life, as we go from darker tracks such as godslave and no hellfire hot enough to more melancholic with i want to be apart of your world (nice wordplay there) and finally to the only somewhat happy track with hope, in alignment. i want to be apart of your world specifically is one of my favourite songs by her, feeling so raw in its emotions and how they're conveyed. though my favourite bits of her music are the heavy metal parts of specifically the plague the cancer and recycle zero. the climaxes in those tracks are some of my favourite pieces of music i have ever listened to, feeling like an overwhelming scream and release of all emotions being built up to by the entire song. also fun fact about the angel the demon, most of the tracks in it were made entirely separate from one another over the course of a few years, with some being extended and remastered for the album. it's insane how cohesive its themes are stories are with how it was made

I honestly didn't think i was notable enough to get coverage of my stuff this high quality yet, extremely well made and balanced overview I'm genuinely grateful for it. <3 Just to clarify to a few things ig, the reason Sub World Unknown sounds, Like That is cause I took about 2 months to make it as opposed to the 8 months I took on Island.1 lmao. SWU was basically made after I found out about Vaporwave for the first time [RIPs to the wosX documentary] and was really enamored with the loose abstract nature of it, so I wanted to just rapid fire make my own take on it. So it is in fact mixed like ass because of that. Admittedly the Very obvious samples are kinda self-indulgent on my part, the first style of music I found really exciting growing up was Mashups I heard on the internet, additionally I would watch my sister make AMVs where she'd take recognizable pop songs and twist them into exciting and fun new emotional contexts. So it's a bit of a personal tailoring to that part of my brain, as it really was the thing to make me want to make music in the first place. It's very funny to see someones reaction to it removed from that context, lmao. Extremely appreciable coverage, and genuinely such a good video that I'm gonna go watch yr other discog overviews while I make breakfast. Much love. My next album has No samples and will be much better mixed than any of these so I've got you chief.

Thank you for making this video, skinny puppy is definitely my favorite band of all time!! It’s interesting how my favorite skinny puppy albums are also mind: the perpetual intercourse, too dark park and last rights. There’s just something particularly haunting about last rights that it’s hard to put your finger on. I’m also not too fond of the process, but I keep coming back to candle for some reason. I also really like some of their less well known releases, like back and forth 6 and back and forth 7, or that mix they did for a radio station. And can’t stop watching recordings of their live performances, I love the over-the-top horror/slasher movie stuff, and it’s always such an intense experience. For some songs, like for example chainsaw (a personal favorite) I actually almost prefer the live version to the original… or maybe I’ve just gotten too used to relistening to the the original version all the time, who knows.

You summarized a very expansive and groundbreaking record very well. When this record came out I don’t think I knew another single soul who’d ever heard it in the pre-internet era. I liked “spirit of Eden” more initially, but over time this one and the Mark Hollis solo record exist as one within my mind. I love their whole approach. The songs absolutely have structure but they left much room for additional experimentation in the overdubbing and editing phases. There is never a feeling that they’re trying to “prove” anything. It’s not made to impress any preconceived audience and it doesn’t try to make itself accessible for the impatient ear. Yet it is entirely inviting to all who realize that musical variations are infinitive, if desired, and it’s only we who sometimes make music small by demanding it conform to our preconceptions. And so the record is a metaphor for life. I find that certain songs from the three records can calm my mind into near silence and eventually restful sleep like a sonic blanket. This record expanded my notion of music and remains an inspiration.
