    Kya will always be one of my biggest hidden gems for the PS2. Sure it was rough, but if a sequel refined the mechanics then I fully believe Kya would've stood right next to Jak & Daxter or Ratchet & Clank for great 6th gen adventure platformers.

    If I'm going to be honest, I feel like your gathering skills is more so due to a lack of patience for the activity than anything. If you actually pay attention to how the gathering control scheme works, isn't hard at all. I played this game on my PS5, so for me, what I did was slightly press down on the R2 button while moving around the Left Analog stick in any direction. Whenever the stick no longer vibrated, that was my que to keep pushing in that direction, and then, I could fully press down on R2, allowing me to get the ingredient I needed in pristine condition.

    • @okgamergirl
      @okgamergirl 4 дні тому

      Oh ya, it's definitely a time thing! At first I thought it was cool and immersive, but after playing for a few hours, I found constantly stopping to play a mini game was a bit draining...like it interrupted my flow when running to a mission or something. It's not a bad mechanic, I've just been spoiled by games that let you hit a button to gather as you're running past 😆

  • @SmallishPoppy6
    @SmallishPoppy6 8 днів тому

    One thing with frontiers with the gathering problem. You can change the difficulty on it to automatic. You can do that for hacking and memory paintings too. I got annoyed with memory paintings because of directional dyslexia (left and right). However frontiers didn’t do a good job at explaining how to get perfect gathering initially. I never got to play the 2009 game so I guess my favorite is frontiers by default.

    • @okgamergirl
      @okgamergirl 4 дні тому

      Oh I forgot about the paintings coz I didn't enjoy the puzzle, so was avoiding them 😆 I'll definitely go back and adjust the settings, and maybe it will make the whole game a little more streamlined for me! Thanks for the tip 😁

    • @SmallishPoppy6
      @SmallishPoppy6 4 дні тому

      @@okgamergirl it definitely does make it more bearable. You just press X and watch when you do the easiest setting and because of that it’s a little boring but hey, free gather sight buff.

    I think the reason I want to play Frontiers so bad is because I've never played a Far Cry game before. I hear people comparing the two, but as someone who never played the franchise, I think I'd love Frontiers more than the average person would

    • @okgamergirl
      @okgamergirl 11 днів тому

      Ooh that's a great position to be in, coz you have nothing to compare Frontiers to! Definitely play it before any Far Cry games (if you do go on to play any!) and enjoy it as a unique experience 😁

    A shame a physical version of Ravenlok never materialised; I remember being quite curious about the game each time it got shown off in presentations. 0:05 - Isn't that every modern adaptation of Alice in Wonderland? The dancing rabbit statues are unique though. 1:54 - That's an adorable way to start the game. A swift way to endear you to the characters before bad things start to happen. 3:15 - I was constantly wondering why there was the inclusion of "lok" in Ravenlok (this game was announced around the same time as Flintlock as well) but given she gets named Raven after her hair, I assume the "lok" is for lock of hair. 4:54 - It certainly helps Raven feel alien to this other-world and keeps her well in view of the player by how much she stands out. 5:14 - I wouldn't have assumed voice acting given the way this game is presented. Does it have sound effects to the voices? I kind of feel various Banjo-Kazooie or Star Fox styled mutterings would match the tone and look of the game better than voices. 7:12 - The games levels look a lot broader than I was expecting. That appears because of how the camera is set, with quick shifts as you move to certain points. It gives a more focused look to the level design, hiding it's openness. 11:00 - That is a particularly strange decision, given you are allowed to customise Waffles at the start. Perhaps the establishment of Waffles is purely to give you incentive to complete the game and return Raven home.

    Fair point with the game the thing is if you finished the game morphine makes sense and why the shadow makes sense its all in the story Spoilers : the shadow is when violet nearly dies and when you use morphine in the game the doctors really use morphine hence in the last mission there is no shadows its really minimal and the morphine effects are gone

    Ok can’t lie. This review was pretty terrible. How can you review Avater: Frontiers when you never really played it? I can tell from the footage that you are less than 3 hours into the story. You spent all those hours running around a small bit of forest collecting things. Your analysis of the story went no further than the opening 2 hour introduction. Basically the tutorial. You haven’t earned or spent any skill points either. So have no idea about the skills and upgrades. The worst thing? You never even mentioned the Ikran. You get the Ikran an after a few main missions. This opens up the whole map since you can now fly wherever you want. Flying is one of the best parts of the game. You didn’t even mention it, yet people spend nearly 40/50% of the game flying their Ikran. There is also Direhorses you can ride a few hours in. If you haven’t flown around the map, you can’t know it. You haven’t visited the flying mountains, or dived headfirst on your Ikran down the front of a mile high waterfall, only to level out at the bottom. You can fly over water and your Ikran will eat fish. Many battles can be fought while flying. You can fly into an RDA base and kill everyone without ever touching the flaw. You mentioned there being few weapons and no guns. Yes, because you haven’t played the game. There are many types of shotguns and assault rifles. There are Rocket launchers. Longbows, heavy bows, shortbows, spears, slings, grenades, mines, trip mines. You don’t know it because you never progressed in the game. Therefore you don’t know the plot of the game, or how the story progresses and/or ends. Even silly things like harvesting plants. It’s very easy to do, but if you don’t like that way of harvesting you can change the settings so you can pick them without effort. All your gripes with the game were nothing to do with what the game offers. Because you played no more than a few short hours in the game, didn’t progress the story, and spent the few hours you played running around collecting a few plants and shooting an arrow or two. No idea if you actually played Avatar 2009, but at least you shot some guns and used a vehicle. You can’t do a review of a game that you experienced about 2% of. Learn and do better. P.S. There are Avatars in Frontiers. One is even in your footage. Alma. She is a big part of the story. If you play the game.

    This is just a side note, not criticism, but there is a setting AFOP that makes the gathering a button click, incase you feel like giving it another chance in the future. The only downside to it is that you don’t get any stat bonuses. There’s a few settings like that to make the game easier and more enjoyable if you don’t like certain mechanics, like gathering and the SID mazes.

    You could’ve used Sid for taking out facilities quietly, and later on in the game when you take out your first big base you get a shotgun. There are also resting spots where you can skip from day to dusk and so on, that’s how I always gather materials. And one last thing! In your settings you can change the gathering settings, that way a little helping animation comes up and it makes it easier to gather (same goes for Sid, you can choose to auto complete the puzzles in your settings) I get where you’re coming from though but I still will say that you must give it a try again when you’re bored! Oh, wow, that voice acting just made me think of South Park... I'm not sure if it's comparable, but the aiming and movement seemed akin to Drake of the 99 Dragons for the Xbox - which is NOT a compliment

      Oh if only it was done in the style of South Park! 😆 It might have been more successful 🤔🤣

    "Came off a little less max payne, and a little more max painfull" lmao Nice video btw, i do think i would have enjoyed a longer segment on the story rather than the segment on the box art, I'm also curious why it seems to have so many different versions of the cover art, but that's just my opinion.

      Thanks! I'll make sure I cover more of the story side of things in future videos 😁 thanks for the feedback! Also, I took am curious as to why there's different cover art for the same region 🤔😆

    The acting of the extras is on a par with Snorkers level cultural sensitivity! The Nam flashbacks were a good idea. Show where he got his skills from. A bit of jank. Shame it wasn't left to cook for longer...

      Ya I liked the attempt at a back story, but I couldn't really concentrate on it because of the weird oriental sounds the game decided to include during those parts 🤣 I really wish they'd worked on it a little longer...it's not every day you get a game that has a real mafia boss overseeing proceedings!
