    1. Weeds 😂 2. Okra (heat tolerant, ants are the only pest, prolific producers) 3. Beans (prolific, tolerant, few pests) 4. Carrots (few pests, early spring start) 5-6. Beets and Radish (dont mind shade, quick the mature early spring to 90 days, and fall, successsion plants, few pests) 7. Potatoes (don't need to watered much, they let you know when to harvest, few pests, almost year round) 8. Peppers (many varieties, drought tolerant, prolific producer up until first frost) 9-10. Onion and Garlic (edible, store a long time, deter pests, grows well during their season in your zone and can either harvest the root or the greens) 11. Eggplant (various types, few pests, hardy producers, heat tolerant, easy to care for) 12. Watermelon (takes up space)

      To protect one bed I would plant them either in that bed that your trying to protect or on the outer edges of your garden if you want to protect you whole garden.

      Great. You've made the first step to a hobby that will consume you! LOL. grow bags are fine to grow in. just remember as the heat creeps up during the summer your going to have to water more. the root ball being above ground will allow wind and heat to evaporate the water from the bags.

    Hey GTE! I might actually have a useful tip for you, for once. 🤣 For those summer plants, and even some of the winter plants, (on nights or weeks where you know it'll be very cold) put down straw as an insulator about an inch away from each, individual plant. It helps amazingly with weeds and ensuring your plants survive and thrive during the colder seasons! Please let me know if you've ever attempted this and your experience with it! It worked really well in Northern Nevada for me!

    • @GrowTheEarth
      @GrowTheEarth Рік тому

      vaseline may work. I personally haven't tried it. This product basically turns the trunk of the plant into a big sticky trap but im sure you could almost get the same effect from vaseline. My only concern would be if it comes off and the consequences of it being in the soil.

    • @kansasgardener5844
