Dredge is a classic modern deck, capable of spinning 20+ cards into the graveyard by turn 2. It uses some fun zombies and odd flying creatures to close out the game usually in combat - but all from the graveyard!
If you enjoy graveyard strategies you should consider giving dredge a try. It is powerful and consistent again with the Faithless Looting unban!

Not enough main deck dredgers. You're going to experience many broken dredge chains. Need +3 darkblast at least.
I had the same thoughts! So far it "seems" to be okay. Last time I played dredge was before grave troll was unbanned haha so I just took someone else's list and gave it a go!
Sup dude, all good? I'm playing Eldrazi too. If u have time i would like to talk about build with u.
Hey man! Always up to talk builds. What is your current 75? Obviously the bans/unbans have changed things since I was running this. You in aggro build or more eldrazi ramp?
@@jimothytheblue I'm trying right now to reach up for a aggro approach, had a long run using diferent build material focused on threat on bloodmoon effects and abuse a lot tha heralds + raker. In my builds i focused first on try abuse myco + world breaker and nulldrifter to keep it running. Turns out when u sequence them almost always we win. Latter in the season i used the linebreaker and the U/R/G/C splashs where a lot to handle, also i had a bad time building on the 7's drops. For a short run i used the battlemage too and some chalices to face burn, occulus, UW energy and stuff. Between origins and the banning i've been doing bad results trying to use the sire for the same issue, also with no nulldrifter i missed some gas even using 2 sanctuns of ugin to try chain big eldrazi over. Right now i'm trying to workout a blue green build for delay and put some body (worked really well to me) with the blue eldrazi and worldbreaker, repurpser, myco and others. I've been watching u play and never occured to me use herigast not even for a mile. For some reason i think we could try to abuse a little Hanweir or Arena of glory for put some haste even having the linebreaker. Had a lot of sucess using those sanctuns to just chaing big eldrazi. Mimic on my field is a bad idea for the bowmasters / wrenn and six count, so i am trying out repurpser and reshaper on its spot www.moxfield.com/decks/Imjb0SlQ6EmxPnxcVnWECA This is a old build that had a good time. www.moxfield.com/decks/Hqohqj_cBUCh7Fgz7AsF5g This other had a really good time too, but have 13 7's felt too much and sometimes is heavy play with no C.A. i've been working on a secrekeeper build to keep on check the early game with those stun counters. But i belive a more aggro approach will do best, for some time i changed my heralds for talisman to avoid moon. Thoughts?
I think you are on the right track. Mycospawn is probably too good not to play and if you are playing it and ugins lab might as well use world breaker. I do think nulldrifter is secretly one of the best cards besides kcommand to support the 3 drops (breaker/raker) so I think. Buuld with devourer, nulldrifter, world breaker could be good. Maybe 1 dust (no sire - maybe play in the sb for matchups where it's strong.) One thing to consider is if tks is good enough. It's sort of awkward inn the curve for our 3 drops. And we want as many chesp spells as possible. Maybe waste scape in that slot? I think trinisphere or chalice is a must. Though - vexing bauble looks good vs the hollow one and evoke and force spells we see so much of! I havent run it since the unban. Just so many faithless looting and opal decks i want to try!
love it
Always cool decks out there if you dig for them! Haha
I do apologize for the stuffy noise/sniffling/heavy breathing at times - I don't think it's TOO bad that I didn't upload. Hope you enjoy!
I feel like this deck is brain dead whenever I see it played
Does that feeling inform your thoughts or is it one that you dismiss as reactionary?
@ I’m not dismissing the deck as bad or unpoweful, I’m saying the lines it takes are just so brain dead and linear it’s laughable. This is like Timmie’s first modern deck type brain dead “fetch the token and then target it and win haha”
My point in asking is your point is very reductive and narrow sighted. At its core nearly every modern deck can sound brain dead. Boros nrg - oh wow just cast my creaturds and make a thousand tokens ez Hollow one - burning inquiry goes brrrr Trb- just cast breach. It's a 1 spell combo Storm - ral + rituals = ez Goyros - frog discard atraxa goryos ephemenate = win. Most decks have a fairly "simple" strategy. Many decks have combos. I mean twin is another 2 card combo. What makes magic complex isn't the two cards that win or the 1 spell that has to resolve. Blue belcher is so far from brain dead but it wins with 1 card +activate. Just because you don't like losing to a deck doesn't mean it's not "brain alive" Yes persist/creativity + archon is a simple combination but playing the deck optimally to more than a 50% win rate still requires intelligence and skill mixed with luck and good deckbuilding - just like any other strategy!
@@jimothytheblue All the combos you mentioned involve two actual cards that you need to cast out of your hand to achieve the combo. Breach is not a 1 card combo lmao the card literally doesn’t do anything without at least one other card. You can have 0 cards in hand, 0 cards in graveyard, control 0 nonland permanents, but if you control 4 lands, one of which is a fetch, you can topdeck a creativity and have your combo. I can’t think of another example that’s this easy to pull off and requires so little setup and thought to achieve. Boros energy requires you to keep track of all your triggers *at least*, and bad players really struggle to keep track of ocelot pride triggers because I’ve seen it many times even in RCQ level tournaments. There are decisions to be made in all other decks you mentioned. There are exactly 0 decisions to be made while doing your combo, and no, to thoughtseize before doing your combo is not a decision lmao. Me calling this deck brain dead is not reductive, narrow sighted, nor misinformed. It’s also not about me losing to the deck. I am stating what I believe after watching it be played by bad players to success. There’s just very little opportunity to make mistakes and misplay because there are 0 decisions to be made with the “combo.” It’s a modern deck I’d give to a new player. It’s brain dead.
Fair enough you are entitled to your opinion. Obviously breach requires 1 card in hand. The same way creativity requires a fetch (and to play exclusively mountains). Very similar combos. Breach ramps, this deck plays 1 mana interactive cards. All that being said. I would still encourage you to use terms that are friendly, kind, and encouraging to players. "Brain dead" isn't any of those things. Saying a deck is new-player friendly and simpler to learn is a much better way to communicate - assuming you care too. It's also your choice to not be friendly or kind...but that's a whole different conversation
Elves is the best it's been since at least pre modern horizons 2 when fury was printed. That being said, there's a lot of room for improvement here. No warmasters, only one eladamri, finale of devastation over chord of calling, etc. Whatever works for them though 🤷♂️
I agree it should be a golden age for elves. It is interesting this person's choices - but they DID get the 5-0 so maybe they are right? Haha I'm not sure! I think finale as a win con makes sense where chord isn't that necessarily. But the numbers of each seem odd and leaf-crown is so good
seems like a weird list. no warmaster?
Yeah I commented on that - I think this is an interesting build. Obviously worked for them!
@jtyree0226 If you want to try white, try lingering souls, has decent synyergy with looting and graveyard, also gives you access to better sideboard cards like Stoney Silence. If you want to try blue use the UB frog shell with unearth but add Archone, Looting and Persist. Gives you better early game and late game. There you go.
This deck will be better without Wren and Fable.
Go on…we’re waiting for the suggestions
@@jtyree0226 If you want to play white try lingering souls, also allows you to play better sideboard cards with white. If you want blue, use the UB frog shell with unearth, but then you add persist and archron which actually gives you better early game and late game. There you go.

@ I’ve written a reply 4 times but it won’t stay? Wtf?
Oh hey that’s my deck ❤
Nice! How has it been running? Still with the same 75?
I really appreciate the deck tech at the beginning, it's a good step not to skip
Thank you! Glad you appreciate it
can you goryos vengeance the wurm?
Unfortunately no - that is part of why I am playing more Koma than wurm. It is less CMC for shoal but better since its a goyro's target. Goryo's specifies Legendary creature - and the worldspine wurm - despite looking super cool - is not a legend!
36:00 you could have swung with the goblin token to make a 6th mana for bolt on fleshraker
100% i really made like...27 mistakes in this match and still managed to win haha. Should speak to the strength of the deck! In my defense I never even goldfished the deck before and didn't play modern when creativity was a top deck before and it was late at night haha. Hope you enjoy the video
Yo bro, love your vids! deciding which deck to commit to in modern right now. I saw you playing a ton of belcher, but wanted your thoughts. Belcher or Storm, which do you think is better and why? Thanks!
I will answer your question with a question! What suites your playstyle more? What do you enjoy? Do you want to interact, go long, have "play" in every matchup. Do you enjoy countermagic and finding the line through complicated messes of permanents+cards in hand? Then belcher is definitely worth it! It can also pivot into other builds as-needed as the meta settles. Storm - is for if you like to play a little more solitaite, win faster, find the "line" through the hate but you don't necessarily like being concerned with every card in your opponents deck. I think both are strong and fine to invest in long-term! Appreciate the encouragement! :)
yo deck is much better, agree that koma is much value than emrakul
Yeah! Been enjoying it a lot - moved on to try out creativity but will definitely be back and ended up 7-3 overall after 2 leagues. Need to come up with a real sb plan and that will help!
You should really consider muting your Discord notification while you're recording. You got me to seriously freak out looking for the unread message in my Discord.
Oh I will! I did not know any computer sounds were being recorded my apologies!
Cool Deck. I've been curious if this style of deck is back. I wonder if Kaalia of the Vast is good in this deck? Hmmm!
I think there definitely could be a kaalia deck - i think you would want way more "hits" then just griselbrand. Thinking things like dragon lords and iona!
Thanks for the tag!!! Subbed for sure
Appreciate it, I hope you enjoy the video!
deck’s probably a little too red and little too graveyard-focused for this, but have you considered necrodominance? Works well with nourishing shoal, since it’s a similar live -> cards engine
I am sure there is some way to build this! with shoal and soul spike and griselbrand. Maybe emperor of bones ulamog too? mono black? You are right I have no idea how it would fit into this particular build but could be fun to brew!
Creativity with faithless looting!
The new top deck? Will give it a spin soon!
ua-cam.com/video/HBMog1v5JaY/v-deo.html enjoy!
Great list. These MDFC lands are such a great addition to these combo decks.
Thanks! I agree...makes fury way more consistent. Plus I've cast the monk like 4 times in 2 leagues. Just posted a video today with an updated list with koma in it - think it's better than emmy on average
@jimothytheblue I was thinking to myself that card is probably castable sometimes. Nice, I'll check it out.
Almost qualified with grishoalbrand to pro tour fate reforged. Lost at the RPTQ to a Land destruction deck of all things. The sideboard pact of negation, blood moon and chalices were the innovation of the time. Glad to see faithless looting back. With no simian spirit guide it doesn’t have the velocity but love this version.
Yeah it's definitely NOT the same but it is great fun and at least scratches the itch (atraxa never has for me) I considered chalice. Being able to play it on 1 and 0 easily is definitely good against a decent amount of the field. I think not being able to play it on 1 until turn 2 is a big disadvantage though since things like thoightseize or an opponents looting setting up a big turn before chalice comes into play. Pact feels a lot less worth it when we aren't "winning" at instant speed. It could protect the griselbrand lines specifically but like this league i only used grisel twice and won 6 games without him! Moon doesn't seem to have the impact it used to. But maybe it could work. We can still turn 2 it and maybe slow things like affinity?
@ the modern meta is a mystery to me as I’ve not played since MH released. Legacy feels like vintage, modern feels like legacy and standard feels like modern due to the power creep in all sets since Eldraine. It’d be nice to see the fast and furious releases and creep slow down a bit.
@@chupacabra8821 I think the majority of magic players (at least ones who follow competitive formats) feel the same way. That being said - they seem to be treated both modern and legacy well as far as staying on top of bans and trying to create a fun format. Printing MH basically rotates the format but, it does mean there is so much brewing to be done. I am having fun since MH3, after a 2+ year break myself!
Why using the worldspine insted of autochthon wurm?
wurm is another target for through the breach as it leaves 3 5/5 trample token, other than pitching it for shoal for life gain
As already said. Breaching worldspine wurm is a really good plan where doing so with autochthon is barely ever enough to win. Came up a few times in this league! And never had an issue where I didn't draw enough to fury when I did get grisel. Also ilharg + worldspine is 21 trample dmg which is often just lethal where again autoch is just not big enough
hey, awesome deck, list and video! Whats the reason for Vexing shusher, over like Veil of Summer? my though was that after board, they most likey wont have much removal. cheers!
I think veil of summer is definitely viable - I spoke briefly on why I like shusher in the intro. I like it being a red card to pitch to fury, green for shoal, and it being a "threat" because sometimes a 2/2 gets in for a decent amount of damage in the counterspell heavy matchups. Veil may still be the better option overall. I havent gotten to use it yet!
@jimothytheblue oh the pitching part make sense! Sorry, only saw the first 5min of decktech, and then skipped to gameplay
@@Heytrix also - im not currently running any green mana (I realized at the end of the next video of gameplay! haha) shoals only can be cast for "free" so veil of summer would mean adding some stomping grounds or something. Not impossible - but a change
No worries! @heytrix I realized in the end of my next video (the 3 final matches of the league) that I can't play veil without adding green to the manabase. Although there are green cards in the deck it doesn't currently generate any green mana!
At 18:00 you have 10 poison dmg 😢 At 28:00 after you play the bomb you can play cappa and Bounce the token
Yeah! Looking at it you are right haha! Managed to stumble with the deck and still perform well! (Rest of the league in another video) thanks :)
Have you been playing affinity with opal?
@@jimothytheblue yes a long Time before the bann in 2020
What list you on now?
@@jimothytheblue I am currently testing for an RC. I'm very inclined to accommodate inkmoth nexus and plaitings
Nice vid, hopefully you hit 500 so ya edit the vids haha
Thanks! I may go ahead and do so before hitting that mark. More a matter of time then anything. What are the top things you would like to see in terms of editing
@@jimothytheblue Awesome, I think the main thing is just cutting out the dead air. For example when your opponent went afk for ages you could just cut that out :)
Not only was Hollow one a powerful deck years ago. Its one of the most entertaining decks to play and play against, really gets my degenerate gambler brain going.
I 100% enjoy the burning inquiry "spins" it makes me sad that the deck isn't playing Goblin lore like it used too...instead it's just more threats/more effiecient threats. Back in my day we had to play Gurmag angler and flamewake phoenix!
Doesn't matter the concoction of cards, red deck wins.
Yes and amen. I thjnk there is just a beauty of basic mountains and lightning bolt winning modern games!
Doesn't Consign to Memory counter the Urza's Saga search trigger?
It can counter the trigger yes - but blue belcher usually only plays a couple consign. And having it in place and using the mana in that way is pretty narrow. But yes - it does work. Into the flood maw to bounce a needle is probably best i think?
Green Sun's Zenith is really just 1 mana more than using Summoner's Pact at the outset and saves several mana in the worst case scenario.
It is better than pact in any deck where you arent winning that turn 100%!
Understand the ulamog cut, but what about koma? She seems to end games with ease for me
The sultai build is a separate deck (and I like ulamog in a deck with 4 emperor and playing no ephemerate) i think it offers some interesting lines. Ive only played that build a few times All sort of irrelevant now that we have faithless looting unbanned! Time to brewwwww
@jimothytheblue absolutely lol but esper variant is prolly here to stay. Frog is too good, grixis might be too painful. I snap bought 4 urzas saga lol opal was very unexpected
@@tricky5222 i had gotten urza before! but opals are shooting up FAST! Grixis could be faster though. we shall SEE
seems like people is trying energyless decks , and ocelot pride and guide of souls seems really good cards even without red
100% and if those 2 cards exist after ban there will be a lot of decks trying this (with ritual, or coco, or chord or all 3) and possibly still playing boros or mardu but might see Naya too
opponent didnt grab goryos off of rumble in game one vs goryo because rumble can only grab permanents
Ah yes...if you read the card it explains the card! I just assume it gets everything sometimes and forget it actually has restrictions! Thanks!
Do you just trade one belcher for the Karn in matchups where you think they'll exile all your belchers or something? And I like the tezzeret tech, I might pick some up after this video
Yeah it is tech against surgical, stone brain, etirpate, etc. It's sort of "free" if the game is going to go long (don't bring it in against aggro decks or fast combo) ive also played portable hole/other artifacts in the past but find it best just as a 1 of to insulate vs. Exile. Tezzeret is the real deal. Ive won so many games against blue decks with 3-5 cards in hand and mana up haha. Makes me want to play 2 tezzeret and maybe go down to 3 belcher main!
As absurd as it sounds, you should keep 2 basic lands in the sideboard (1 island and 1 mountain) theres a lot of things that screw up belcher game (Boiseju, Knight of white orchid or field of ruim for example)
Not crazy at all - pretty common to play 1 of them usually (island for thoracle builds, mountain for normal belcher) they are only good when you know for sure your opponent is running those cards and more useful in a small meta like local weekly or FNM. Online there are currently far more consign than boseiju or field or knight but definitely worth consideration in the 75 depending on how the meta shifts!
wheres pact of negation? it really can make a difference
Cut it in this 75 for more flexible cards. Its at its best on a combo turn - not always good. I still like them overall and might need them in the 75 after the ban shake up in 3 days
The blue weenie beatdown plan is legit in some match-ups. Came back to watch the last match this morning while caffeinating. That has to be frustrating for the opponent, but it is decidedly fair.
Yes! I love winning with harbingers and picturing my opponents hand full of consign to memory and force of negation while I cast another Otter or whatever! Back in the og builds we played a couple brazen borrower in the side to add to the plan (and had subtlety main)
@jimothytheblue I played with a few Nimble Obstructionists in Standard some years ago as part of a control/tempo deck. I countered some planeswalker ultimates by announcing "cycle stifle bird wizard", and they occasionally were handy for 3/1 flying beatdown. However, they have never been good sideboard cards because you effectively have to choose whether you want a 3/1 flyer or the effect text. Having something with both the body and the effect is much better for enabling a post-sideboard strategy.
Yeah exactly - the petty theft being very flexible is a big upside for the borrower. Though in blue matchups often just jammed it on turn 3 and beat down.
Eyyy that was me
A couple suggestions after watching the first few matches- don’t be afraid to gamble on shoaling their rumble, probably better to make a high risk high reward play with shoal early than let them get into a stronger position later. At 24:04 you could have cracked a lotus to pay 3 for dispute, probably worth it in that spot.
Countering rumble does make sense in some settings and isn't a play i have been making! The time stamp must be wrong? At 24:04 it's just a turn where I cast fallaji. But I'm sure you are correct! Haha always best to find the misplays and learn from them as much as my "good" play
Eldrazi control. That was an unusual match.
yes indeed! the ramp decks added blue for the consign/dispute it seems (plus stone brain always makes sense in ugin's lab decks) last game especially was fun and showed off this particular build!
@@jimothytheblue that game in which the opponent had you locked down for several turns and you still won was impressive though
@@k98killer thanks! It shows the resilience of this deck and why it isn't just a "combo" deck. It can really fight through a lot and wins many different ways! My next video is later in this same league - I win with combat damage from Harbingers :)
At the outset, before I forget, I have a small suggestion: the volume from your microphone is very low; if you can during editing, it would be helpful to amplify the audio. Whenever I click onto one of these videos, it takes me a moment before I realize there is any sound at all and have to boost my volume and restart the video, then if I forget to turn my volume back down before I click onto any other video, the return to normal audio intensity is incredibly jarring. I rarely make videos, but I tend to use a mix of Shotcut and Audacity when I do -- they have a bit of a learning curve, but I have found them reasonably easy to use once I got used to them.
Thanks for the feedback! as of now I haven't done any editing - it is something I look forward to learning. I've told myself once I hit 500 subs Ill go through the time/effort to start editing vids some (cutting dead space, adding a title screen, and audio tweaking for sure are top goals). I am used to listening with headphones on around 60% and to me it comes through at a nice volume - thats with youtube at 100% though and is just how I usually have things. I will look into turning it up a bit going forward! thanks!
Very interesting, sad Hope of ghirapur didn’t show himself. And what do you think to have couple of hope of ghirapur in sideboard vs control/mirror matches for example?
I am still testing the 1 main. You could add 1 sb i suppose if you mostly face blue decks + noncreature combo (ruby storm)
@ gotcha!
Hey there! In game 2 against Eldrazi you were saying that the Veils were useless. It's not the biggest use, but if your opponent had gone for a Chalice on 0 or a Vexing Bauble, it would have protected your spells. In that sense I thought they were better than the Pacts at least.
Definitely did not consider the interaction with chalice/bauble. I agree that veil does offer upside there for sure! Pact i figured helped us not get blown out or a k command or something - but if you know there is a chalice id definitely pick veil!
Each hybrid mana symbol in guildpact is unique and thus it works with Jegantha
Yeah makes sense - though still feels wrong that it fits in the deck with it!
Love the art!
Thanks :)
Deck link to Mox is not working FYI
Thanks for the heads up! I put a link to my most recent list (just posted a couple videos) won't match up perfectly with this video but is close. Can make the adjustments as needed!
Awesome, this had everything! Some alternative plays and and a crazy win, expert card-art analysis, singing, and more. See, it's probably the singing, YT algorithm loves it so much and makes view count jump😅😂
So glad it's appreciated! From now on all singing will be dedicated to wes!
at 1:02:20 why don't u grab mite with karn??
I know right?! I chalk it up to being tired. I believe I realize it like...10mins later that I completely missed the line. Big misplay - but part of learning a new deck is making misplays and learning!
Are you the one who has been destroying me online with this?
haha I doubt it! I only played this one league - being a dad of a couple toddler boys and working full-time I don't really get much opportunity to game. Get some GY hate! or needle effects
