Directly above the rear license plate, You'll find a small button. It's somewhat hidden, but simple to find if You know where to look. If the doors are unlocked, this button will serve as a trunk release so You can access the trunk without Your key.

I had my cruze since new its 2011, my shift knob was threaded from factory.

That much trouble, just replace the glass/plastic..snap back on
