I've always found using looper pedals fairly cumbersome. However, the MIDI Captain has made it much easier for me to use the RC-5.
I found myself using my looper pedal every day now because it's just way easier now.

Do you know if you can hook up multiple transmitters?
Doubt it. Could be wrong though, give it a shot
audio/video are out of sync m8
What's the best beginning looper to record both guitar and vocal backups? Also, if I want to record vocals, what additional gear would I need? Excellent video -- you describe everything in layman's terms so people like me who are new to looping can understand it.
Hello, mine remains in off mode, do you have a solution ?
So annoying when pedal reviewers don't start with just the pedal they're reviewing but instead use it with others. We're here to listen to the pedal on the video title, dedicate more time for it on its own
I just got mine and it won’t stop buzzing, can I get some help?
Nice cool sounds-thank you.
I only get 1 hour on my RC-5.
Just got a soul food and love it too but it’s a more processed Klon compared to other clones I’d say my favorite so far and I’m not a Klon guy
Chorus is Great for solos, with a DOD 201 in front of dirt and CE2 After you can get an even more Univibe tone but, still subtle like the 2 stage Phasor 201. David Gilmore replaced his giant Univibe and went DOD 201, is pretty close just more subtle and less throbby. I know this is a chorus video but the CE2 and 201 together with dirt sound like a subtle Univibe.
I honestly had to look again, I thought Julia was a CHorus Vibrato, but that thing FLanges like hell too. I know FLangers can be Chorus, and some Chorus sounds a bit Flange or Vibrato sounding but, not like that intro part... I dig CE2 chorus sounds the most, I have a Walrus Monuments but just got Joyo Analog Chorus CE2 clones, $30 so I got two. Dead on clones
I used to have the Julia a few years ago. After doing an extensive A/B comparison against a Zoom MS 70CDR, I couldn't justify the Julia. With the Zoom I was able to get almost the same tones Julia provides but with less noise, specially with distortion. Plus you can use the Zoom as a tuner and many other things (I like to keep my pedal board as small as possible)
Understandable. That zoom pedal looks cool. I didn’t even know they made guitar pedals, frankly. I have an old handheld recorder of theirs, the ZOOM H2.
Sounds amazing! thanks for the great demo, and I totally agree with the rate and depth ratio.
I was just looking at these on reverb not too long ago. After watching this, it's gotta get bumped up the list of pedals to get next year. Nice playing, man. Oodles of noodles! lol
Yeah it’s pretty great. I like it a lot.
Dooin the lords work here
Appreciate it.
Best way to demo it is one string at a time. It's not sexy but it's the only real way to evaluate ANY pedal.
@@davejohnson-yi2rk interesting, I’ve never tried that. I usually just jam and noodle around
@@andrewsiemon If you're going to go through the trouble of putting up a channel for perhaps thousands of viewers and then taking the time to buy and review a product, why wouldn't you do the 1-string-and-1-fret-at-a-time method? By posting your gadget reviews, you're essentially telling viewers like me, that you know what you're doing. I clicked on your review because I'm considering the Behringer fuzz pedal, but every channel I've gone to for the Behringer, simply shows another guitarist talking for a bit, and then WHAILING AWAY, I guess to show us that they know how to play? But I don't care how well or badly they play, I'm only trying to evaluate the Behringer to see HOW GOOD IT'S FUZZ TONE IS WHEN PLAYING SINGLE NOTES & NOTHING ELSE!!! When you, and the other dozen guys I've watched, start playing chords, it defeats the whole purpose. i ONLY want to hear 1 STRING BEFORE Behringer, and the same string AFTER Behringer. Unfortunately, I still don't have any better idea how it sounds than before I went to your channel. p.s. You can't believe the nasty responses i got from some channel creators because I called them out on their "testing" method!
Slow down
@@miguelpessanha hahaha
Cabsim is extra tasty adding a little EQ in the daw to boost the lows and a little bit of the mids. I use the stock logic graphic eq for a simple adjustment before a room reverb with the Crush 20 and it sounds incredible!
Thanks for the tip. I’ll try that. I hate how tinny the cabsim sounds without EQ in the DAW as you’ve mentioned.
I am way out of date myself. Does anyone know if I can connect my Nux Mg30 directly into a channel of a stand alone multi track recorder to write songs with? Maybe like a Zoom Live track, so I could go with a Digital Work Station, if I want to, when I want to, for more finished work.. .
That pedal has a switch inside for "True Bypass". If it's on it may sound even louder when engaded. I own one. I just needed a yellow pedal with mid hump and transparency on my board. I think it's better than Boss SD-1 since it can go from clean boost to kinda fuzzy. And it's much louder!
That's cool. I'll have to check that out.
Bought a second-hand one and was really annoyed that hitting the switch after recording just went straight into overdub - THANK YOU! Nearly listed it back up for sale 🤣🤣
Someone didn't read the manual. Dislike.
this isn’t a video about the rc1 it’s you just going off about the rc5
Most of the smaller boss RC pedals change the tone in an unattractive way. I've A/B'd against other loopers and the BOSS just don't sound good.
Yeah….the difference is 40 of 150 bucks…. I think I will stick with the JHS.
My het set and 57/66 set sound great to me. I don’t worry about what the internet experts think. The guy that says “they’re cold and sterile” is the same guy that plays bare knuckles or some $300 dollar boutique pickups through a 5 watt amp or computer in his bedroom.
I’m buying a guitar to learn this and alot of alice in chains. Now I know for certain I am buying one! Awesome job dude!
Right on. Thanks a lot.
Idk man 113 I got my rc-3 for 80 bucks all just because the back label was messed up
That pedal is discontinued so I don’t count it
@ but it’s still a viable pedal just because something is discontinued doesn’t mean it should be counted out especially if there are cheap ones out there
This video is excellent. Thanks, Andrew!
Nothing wrong with laying down the pedals first. Gives you a feel for cords and needed spacing. Besides that’s what Velcro is for right? Nice job! I’ve just started mine and with too many pedals, my ocd being so bad I feel the need to spell it cdo 🤷♂️, I expect I’ll be moving pedals around for the next 3 months before I’m satisfied. 😂
Understandable
Mine always stays On. With a short Regen (slapback-like) for most songs, except Pink Floyd type of music where Regen at about 11:00 does the trick. And instead of using the modulation button, I get a better tone pairing it with a Boss CH-1 Chorus pedal in front of it. Everyone compliments my live tone. It's mostly coming from my fingers, but the Carbon Copy is a big, big part of it.
"...and needs some TLC" 🤣🤣🤣
Can you go between two and three cause then it would be number two with a boost?
Yeah it’s called 1.5 and 2.5
I really appreciate your videos man. Very clear and great demonstrations. Keep doing what you do, you have helped me immensely 😊
I love your pedal board setup!
@@BboyEklypse thanks a lot
Can i run a keyboard into it?
If it uses a 1/4” jack, then I don’t see why not.
I bought one. I reckon it sounded pretty good. You play guitar really well too.
Thanks a lot
Really cool video!
Thanks man
2:27 $276! What if the open string and the harmonic are ok, but fretting at the 12th fret is slightly out?
Seems very responsive. Definitely gonna check that out. I wonder if the inconsistency of the bend tracking was due to the instrument you are sending the midi to not responding to the pitch bend messages, I seem to recall some piano plugins don't. Either way, glad youtube surfaced your channel to me - I've subbed.
thanks a lot.
The cut in the top of the shoe really made this 🙏 nah but I have been kinda thinking about buying one of these for a long time, basically because I wanted to more faithfully play Becoming, but I couldn't justify buying it for that reason alone. Knowing more about the like de/drop tuning effect though, that's pretty fire. I like to play floating trem bridges for the most part and changing tunings is evil and annoying. Thanks man
Update: just ordered a whammy DT cause it was on sale for close to the price of a Gen 5 new and seems to pretty much be the same thing with an expanded tuning change feature 🥳
You can do this for free in Reaper with ReaTune by the way! Still a cool plugin
I had no idea. That’s pretty cool. Maybe it’s time for a DAW upgrade.
This was really helpful for what goes where. Just got the JHS and trying to work it into my FX loop along with my looper.
In the era of NAM and Tonex it is really lacking pro amp tone.
Gotta be honest, your tone here is not good. It sounds like an amp sim without an IR. String separation is non existent, lacking low end while also being boxy. You'll get better, dude keep trying!
Bro went off tho 😮
I use a Morning Glory v4. It actually stacks really well with the Boss DS-1. The MG in its blue mode has a pretty flat EQ curve, if not a bit bright. But it adds a little bit of compression and gain, which really makes a DS-1 sound tremendous. That combination is my clean and dirty tone, going into a Fender Deluxe Reverb. I can't really explain what it is, but it sort of makes everything sound a little bit higher fidelity.
I'll have to give that a try.
0:48 how to get that sound
The Cure one ...yeah that one, for sure.
You say put it before everything but you have the compressor before it in the first images you show of it on your board.
It’s a guideline.
Anyone that thinks this is attenuating their amp is sadly mistaken. It's going in before the output tubes. I don't really see the point of it other than to in effect replace a master volume that tapers in an annoying way.
The point is to give you a bit more control over your volume.
