11 Ways you can save money on home renovations
My floor look like that I have a whole ins. Company want fix it I am 75 can been need help fill whole in but this was very very helpful thank understand better
you should be pivoting the miter saw on its axis opposed to leaning it over to cut 45s, you're also limiting your viewing angle on the cut by doing so
Use car spray paint on your pulls. Five years later mine look amazing. You're welcome! 🎉😂
What kind of floors do you have? Color?
❤❤ exactly what im looking for, beautiful thanks bunches. Tracey
Use gloves!!!!
Nice updates! What's the name of the charcoal gray paint on your front door?
It’s graphic charcoal by Behr!
Really helpful, thank you! Been looking for a decent how-to on this, turns out a lot of folks just use plain acrylic paint or other types of milk paint but with no real instructions. Your video was perfect as I specifically wanted the lime version. Your pots turned out great and that background looks truly idyllic. Can I suggest you tweak your video title so it turns up quicker in search results though - maybe "How to naturally age terracotta pots using garden lime. Easy DIY". More people need to enjoy this tutorial 🙂 Sending appreciation from England, can't wait to get going on my own pots.
That's so great to hear! I'm glad it was useful to you. Thanks for the suggestions - I'll definitely make those changes! Hopefully it won't get lost in the crowd!
@@ourhowtohome I did some pots recently but used calcium carbonate powder as I couldn't find a small enough bag of garden lime and have zero storage space 😁 I uploaded a short clip of the finished pots - it's the only video on my channel 🥰 Your tutorial really helped. Thanks again
This was exactly the information I needed. Thanks for sharing!
I'm so glad it was helpful!
Looks great, however I'd have recommended using a grey primer
Fair enough! The white worked just fine for me and it was what I had at home, but gray would work just as well.
Turned out great! Are you able to link the tile and where purchased?
We're obsessed with them! They're from Home Depot. You can get them here: rstyle.me/+svbHj2DXc50V2g2QncdIwA
I am doing this TODAY. Perfect video, thanks!
Good luck!! I can’t wait to hear how it goes!
What angles did you cut at? I am trying this project this weekend.
They were cut at a 45 degree angle. This gives you perfect 90 squares.
Beautiful!!👏👏👏👏
Thanks so much!
Amazing job i need dor like that at my closet
Wow you sorprise me whit this spray
pro tip.....paint the molding BEFORE you put it on the wall
We’ve done that for other projects like our kitchen cabinet molding and it works great! But given how much wood putty and caulk needed to be added after installation, it really wouldn’t have saved us any time here.
This turned out amazing. I love the paint color by the way. I want to do 1x2 boards all the way across my peninsula and I'm looking for other ideas and that's how I landed on your video. Awesome job guys
Thanks! It’s a great alternative when you can’t do traditional board and batten. I hope it helped!
shouldn't you apply a mortar bed under cement board? I believe both durorock and hardibacker include that as a required step.
Hi! Applying mortar under the cement board would be extra secure yes, but it would also mean that your whole floor including tile is stuck to the subfloor. You wouldn’t be able to remove your tile without tearing out the floor to the studs. Most of the time you see mortar being used under tile which would either be on cement board or directly on a second layer of plywood (I wouldn’t do this in a bathroom). Using the cement board specific screws for this project, the cement board is very secured on it’s on.
Yes, yes you should. Skipping steps could result in cracked tiles.
@@ourhowtohome Would like to know if your floor holds up over time.
@@BUNNYBUN420 we’ve never had any issues in any of the houses we’ve lived in so this way works for us!
@@ourhowtohome I didn't do it on my bathroom floor and I've had no cracks. However I will do on a customer's house
great job!
Thank you!
Is there an update? Did it wash off in the rain?
Same question here
Thank you, I really needed to see that. Now I know exactly what to do with this 180 year old house. LOL
And base board
That's awesome what's the size of the trim
Hi Carrie! The baseboards are 4.5 inches tall and the trim is 2 1/4 inches wide. I go into more detail on my blog and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions. www.ourhowtohome.com/2021/08/05/how-to-add-kitchen-island-trim-molding-and-instantly-update-your-kitchen/
Hi! I think I just ordered the same vanity lights you have here and I'm trying to match fixtures too! Do you think the way it shows up in the video is a good read on the actual color of those lights? ~Thanks for the video!
it's not a 100% match between the lights and handles so if they'll be side by side I think it'll be noticeable, but for my purposes, it's pretty close. If you want an even closer match, it might be worth trying to blend antique gold with another more yellow rub and buff to get the perfect color.
Turned out great!
Thank you!
I’m so proud of u
Thanks so much!
Love the design! Love the neutral vanity 💗
Thanks!! I hope that I can pull it off!
That rub and buff got in my nerves today 😂 it kept caking up no matter how thin I made the coats
Oh no! I noticed that happening a bit when I was doing my project as well. Were you able to use a brush and flick the caking off at all?
Hi! I am trying to do something like this. I appreciate how straightforward your video is. How is this hardware holding after all these months?
Thanks Tony! We don't use the drawers very much so there is little wear and tear, but so far they look as good as the day I did them! I think spraying the sealer really helped protect them. Good luck on your project!
Love the tile you picked. The kitchen looks amazing! Love it ♥️
Thanks so much Gina!
Hey girl! New subscriber and fellow UA-cam friend here 🥰. I literally just finished spray painting my faucet Matt black and love it. I was thinking of doing the rub and buff. Maybe for my next project 💗
I'm so glad you're here! I'm very interested to hear how the spray paint lasts over time - I have another bathroom to update!
@@ourhowtohome thanks for the warm welcome my friend 🥰. Will definitely be giving an update after a few months of using it
Beautiful effect! Be careful what sort of lime you use though as it is caustic and can really burn skin. This one seemed fine but I’d still wear gloves. I think I might give this one a go :)
Thanks for the tip Henry! I hadn't thought about that. I watered down the lime a ton, but it still probably would have been smart to use gloves.
From morroco.isay good luck to you
Thank you!
If you nail the frame how long the nail you used, how about using glue. I just want to prevent to get to through the cabinet under kitchen island
Hi Edward - As a rule of thumb we do double the width of the surface were nailing into. so in our case we did 1.5 inch finishing nails. Between the molding, the finished cabinet panel and the cabinet itself, it did no go through to the inside at all. We didn't use glue as I was constantly adjusting the molding to make sure it was level as I went down each piece. Glue would have made that a whole lot messier and in the grand scheme of things probably wouldn't have made it any easier.
Looks awesome!
Thanks Nora!
It looks so good! It always turns into a bigger project than you thought. I want to do this to my plain island, I'm terrible at measuring boards and my husband it worst than I am :-(
Thanks Cyn! You should totally do it! it's once you decide what size you want, you the squares will be all the same across the one side. You can create a template for the top/bottom & sides to make sure they are all cut to the same length. I bet it will look great!
Mirror spray paint? Super cool idea!! I need to play this vid for my wife. We're about to convert some French doors to barn doors as well and she's going to love that mirror look. Thanks for posting.
I know right!? I can't believe it actually worked! It takes a lot of coats but gives a great finished look!
Great video and I loved how it turned out? What was the black color paint you used? I tried replaying the part where you mentioned it but I couldn’t catch it
Thanks so much! The door color is Satin Black by Behr. It's such a pretty, subtle color😍
Beautiful !!!
Thank you so much Diane!
plan to do something like this on my kitchen island,... pretty simple, love the details and looking good... :)
You definitely should! It's not that difficult and makes such a huge impact!
WOW! This looks amazing. Thank you for the detailed steps. I would love to try this in my kitchen.
Thank you so much! You should definitely add it to your kitchen and let me know if you do!
Looks great! I did the outside a few years back and have been debating doing inside! What finish did you go with? Flat paint??
Thanks Heather! We use semi-gloss on all the doors and trim in our house. It makes it easy to keep clean. I probably wouldn't do flat just because it'll be harder to clean off finger prints, foot scuffs etc.
What paint did you use?
Great video! Did you paint the exterior of your front door the same color as well?
Thanks Starr! The exterior of the door is a different color - more of a charcoal. They’re both dark so it you can see any imperfections.
Helloo, what is the color that you used for painting the cabinets, please?
Hi Zunay - I'm working on getting you this info! It's from the manufacturer, but II got it color matched. Working on a post for you now!
