My patent is still good for several years so I may see about bringing it back in a slightly different form in a few years, so no open sourcing. The gearbox I used is an industrial gearbox that retails for over three hundred dollars, not some retro application.

Thank you Normand, Unfortunately I am no longer making PedalProps. The economy and a move to Florida put an end to home production. You are correct about the placement of the rudder, The two main reasons for it's location was simplicity of mounting and the excellent directional control it provided at this location.

Unfortunately I do not make the PedalProp anymore. Rising material cost and my move to Florida finished production, for the foreseeable future anyway. I agree this would be a great system for a pontoon craft and I would like to make one for myself sometime. Thanks.

@@truckerray7533 It looks it would be best to just attach the pontoons to the PedalProp frame. I think the only items needed for the PP would be a front and rear cross bar extension to attach the pontoons to. It does not seem the pontoon frame would be of any benefit.

The material the boat is made of does not mater. In general, the width can be up to 44" wide and max length for solo boats is about 13' and tandem boats can be longer.

The only thing that concerns me is the exposed chain. Otherwise, this is an absolutely brilliant design!

I see is that these are both sit inside boats, but the cockpits do not appear long enough to allow pedaling without interference, there is just not enough room in those cockpits. The second problem is the outrigger supports look like they would prevent the drive tube from rising up high enough to get the prop completely out of the water. If one wanted a sailing trimaran I would start with a good sit inside kayak with a large open cockpit (tandom kayak?), add a sail and add outriggers mounted on the PedalProp frame. The rightside rear outrigger support could be designed to allow the drive tube to be raised enough for the prop to be out of the water. I would think if you did most of the work yourself this would also be a less expensive route to take. Thanks for your comments.

The standard prop now is a three bladed 11.8 inch diameter prop with a 10.5 inch pitch which has replaced the two bladed prop (which is still available if desired). The finial ratio is 1:6 , but can be much higher as the driver sprocket has a common hub that can accommodate a number of optional plate sprockets (both higher and lower than the 6:1).

The gearbox is an quality (and expensive) industrial gearbox with stainless steel spiral bevel gears with an aluminum alloy housing. I selected this gearbox for its reliability, small size and low weight despite the rather high cost.

Thanks Nash. The PedalProp is a great drive and is unsurpassed, in my humble opinion, in shallow water, areas of sunken logs as well as beaching and launching. I have talked to a Nucanoe dealer in Florida and taken a look at them, nice boats. It would not be difficult to mate a PedalProp with the Nucanoe, just trying to provide another option for you!
