Marching was never our Forte 🍺 💪
What unit is this? My dad was US army and was detached to the 3 para in Iraq in 2003.
this is 29 Commando Regiment which i served with from 1984 - 2006
Used 105 light gun in Belize in 1986 😊
In 1961 I was on a troop ship Oxfordshire as part of 29 field regiment ra when we got to the royal citadel , the c o said enjoy your christmas/Embarcation leave. You are all going on a commando course in 1962. I was on the second course with Maiwand, I passed and stayed with 29/95 until late 1972.
Nice one Mate 1984 - 2006 myself, so a while after you :)
Anybody know jock haefner.?
Dave Woodhouse!
my battery 5 battery used to operate in Norway as well as part of the AMFL
The title of this video should be something like "A tribute to the best regiment in the British Military" or a tribute to the Commando Gunners
Great shot of Duane Marlow in the thumbnail.
Take my hat off to anybody who gets their green lid. Respect.
everyone of them is a hero !
was that pic spein bridge
29 best Regiment in all Uk Forces
Apart from 7 Para that is.
Always wanted to join the marines but this has suddenly caught my eye. can you join the artillery and volunteer straight away to do the commando course or do you have to serve a few years first ?
It's been 6 years. Are you in 29?
The first soldier talking is LTCOL Wilson
awsome..
What's would be the point in a para commando?
You join the Royal Artillery (24-28 weeks training) when you pass that you go for selection. Then the all arms commando course at RMCTC Lympstone. You are still army but attached to 3 Cdo Brigades..
Can paras do this course if they wanted to?
What about the Rangers?
brilliant video,my dad was in no9 commando.i have been to spean bridge a few times.thank you so much for expressing just how i feel about the commandos.UNITED WE CONQUER.
Missed this due to being stuck at larkers...
funnybunnytom1; 29 cdo is actually an army unit, has never been a royal marine unit, and accepts both army and accepts both army and royal marine commando's, but is still classified as an army commando unit.
i'm currently in the process of joining 29 commando, royal artillery i was wondering any of you lads joining?
They are royal marines not army your should know the difference(marines are better!)
@DaZeBoYy Cheers mate! Found out loads since then, RIP John Mac!
@TheKr1sC0Kr1ng13 John McAleese was in the Engineers before joining the SAS
Haha,LOLLIEGEEFMELOLLY, just checked out your Tribute to Royal Dutch Forces, great hard dance tune, but you helicopters are Cheq, your Self propelled artillery is German(SP2000) one of your observers is French, whats up not enough of your own hardwear? Joking apart, I have served with dutch Marines and I do rate them, have you worked with them? As for the history, yep the boers started the commando's, but the standard other countries rate themselves by are british Commando's and you know that?
bootneck all the way, there is a reason we are who we are,but at the end of the day as long as we all shoot in the right direction usmc or para or any other force your good in my book
@TheStiglit Royal Marines are commando's and are comparable to US tier 2 special operations such as Navy seals and Green Berets. US tier 2 are based on the the British commando's format except they do more specific technical training.
@bighands69 both sides are arguable, the USMC, yes there training is certainly undoubtly best in all american regiments, and pass out many grunts and great frontline soldiers. The Royal Marines defenatly have more and harder TIMED fitness tests for example , 30 miler in 8 hours (7 hours for officer). if you compare the Royals PJFT its 1.5 Kilometers in under 12 min 30 sec then a minutes break and another 1.5kilometers in under 10 minutes. there are many more examples if youd like me to share?
@mark29cdowalker Cheers mate so much :D
@TheKr1sC0Kr1ng13 Yes you could try selection from any unit.
Please reply to this, but if I were to join the Royal Engineers or say the Royal Artillery Regiment could I then go on to try SAS Selection?
hard enough with a bloody log lol good effort
@Awsomeshit100 Royal marines are commandos were as USMC are not. USMC are a tough infantry man go and research there training. They are probably the largest elite infantry in the world. and for there size they are probably the best.
peters pool breaking the feckin ice with weapon butt...Happy Days!!!
In 29 commando do you get to serve on warships?
@mark29cdowalker Ahh righto, yeah we fixed the cart and bomb before punching it in.
@goofiegoofball No they are L118s (the Shell and Cart are separate), the rammer is used to ram the shell to ensure an airtight fit then the cart with whatever charge is loaded. The Americans and Aussies use the L119
Correction on the reason for ramming. It's to get the shell to bite in to the lands and grooves as of the barrel. It's the cart case base that provides the seal and provides forward obturation. 😉. Guns and ammo. Larkhill. 😊
Are those 119s? Why are they using a rammer to get the bomb up there?
That looks excellent, really worth it from all the effort the boys put in and sadly the boys who are no longer with us !
@leedalton656 I guess looks can be deceiving then and they are deceiving you a treat because it's probably ten times harder
@rosscopeeco69 you will do very thorough preparation for the Tarzan assault course. You will be taught how to get across each obstacle individually and will have plenty of practice e.g run through's without kit. By the time you are tested on it then it should be second nature.
I only just managed to survive that course in combats and boots. I simply cannot fathom how difficult that must of been with a fucking log!!
Clifton!
@ollie6655 We always get stick and give it back, that's what its all about:) Not just Guns, but a few trades same as Royal Really. If interested give it a go, nothing to lose..
Hats, you're all hats.
Are you officially a member of the RM once you've done the all arms commando course? or do you only put on the green beret when you're working with the RM? (this isn't a diss, I'm very interested)
@TheMortonnn anyone can apply to be in the Special Forces, but its usually paras, commandos, engineers, infantry, and signallers that pass the course. SF wants skills from across the whole army, but other regiments outside the ones we mentioned either arent fit enough, or dont even apply because they dont fancy getting wet cold and tired in Wales.
