I am back and attempting to rebrand this channel with information about school psychology and vlogging my life. I know that when I first was in school for the school psych field, I didn't know much about school psychologists besides what I found online. I had wished that there was more information out there about it so here I am! Hopefully, this will be able to help any of you who are interested in the field, have questions about it or just want to follow along on my life adventures!
Also every once in awhile,
I guess I will put videos of me singing on here and any other random things that comes to mind. I'm very odd so I sometimes I may put up some randomness!!

School Psychology and English Language Learners (ELL Student)| What Do We Do in the Schools?
Working in a school, we will encounter students that do not have English as a first language. You may have many questions such as do we test them or how do we know if they are learning and these may be difficult to answer. This video may help you to answer some of these questions you are having and might even teach you about a tool that you can use that you didn't know about!

You look so pretty in pink and this video is very educational and important
@Karen-e8j2j thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Yes, I like the one topic focus. Please share about when appropriate to test ESL students. Thank you
@MsJules888 I'm glad you enjoyed it! My next video will most likely be on ESL, stay tuned 😁!!!
I appreciate this topic about practical ways to help students of all ages be encouraged to become more resilient. The thoughts behind their development and what they may be thinking and why strategies were suggested is helpful. Happy Thanksgiving to you! Topic I would like further discussion on: when to test ELL students for special education. When do you feel language is not the primary concern and suspected learning disability. Is it appropriate to test a second grader who had no English three years ago and is making her own progress just more slowly than peers. Thank you
Sorry I am just seeing this now! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and I would love to do a video on the complexities of testing ELL students, it's funny you mention it because I actually have a meeting coming up that involves an ELL student so I will try to make a video to address this soon!
Very educational and important for this day and age with mental health on the rise and starting at a younger age group.
Thank you for going over scripts for responding to hard questions.
@@MsJules888 I am glad you enjoyed it!! Hope you had a wonderful weekend
Thank you Natureangel. I like your videos. This is my internship video. I would love scripts for what to say when in difficult conversations. A parent requests testing and I ask if they ok with the SIT team process and trying interventions first. Explaining to team student does not qualify for IEP even though there are learning challenges. Helping gen Ed teachers take more ownership in helping students that need more assistance. Thank you
I meant to say my internship year
@MsJules888 good luck on your internship and that sounds great to me! I will try to combine all of those ideas into one video! I'll try to post it this Friday or Saturday so stay tuned and thank you so much for the idea! The title will probably be something like "from requests to results"
Did people go out to bars and have fun ? Heading to my first one next year!
@Isaiah-me4ic ooh I hope you have fun I wanted to go to the one in Seattle but I can't! People do go out and explore town a couple days before NASP begins and in the evenings after people are done for the day. It is nice because it feels like a vacation mixed with work!
Hi, Nature Angel. Do you offer consulting? I checked your channel for your email address but did not see one.
@latoniabills9689 Hi, I don't do any outside consultation only consulting in the schools with staff! I hope this helps ❤️
Enjoy this, very educational
Thank you I am in my first year of my graduate program this is really helpful
@kirra7907 yay I'm so glad it helped and I hope grad school is going well 😊
How many students do u work with-your typical case load?
@AshCloud603 In terms of evaluations, I would say between the two schools it's about 50-60 a year!
This is very informative, I will definitely use this at my daycare for all ages. Thank you
@user-ip3dg2yg1l I am glad you enjoyed and found the video useful 😊
This is very important especially in today society and the rate of inflation.

Hi can you please share how you interviewed for a school psychologist position? I haven’t got hired I had 2 interviews recently.
@ElizabethRamirez-nm3ke hi! I lilke your positive perspective and sharing what lessons you are experiencing in school psych world!
Thank you so much 🥲 sometimes it's hard to film vlogs and show what is done in the career since a lot is confidential so that makes me happy that you found it helpful ❤️
Love this ❤
As a psychology undergraduate your school psychology videos are so informative and invaluable to me, thank you!
Ah I love that so much, this made my day🥰 I'm so happy you find my videos helpful!
Hey! Great video!! I’m an aspiring school psych. What exactly do you say to teachers to “stand your ground” about not testing. What is your go to?
Thank you for watching! It helps to have support from other members of the eligibility team so that when you explain why testing isn't necessary, most of the team members agree. Otherwise, I explain the circumstances that we test and how we need consistent evidence based intervention first. I hope this helps!
This was great, very practical for me as a newbie. Please provide more helpful info on these concepts.
I'm so glad you enjoyed and I will try to do more videos like this in the future😁
I am so tired! I have several contentious evaluations, and several parent referrals on top of re-evals. It feels never-ending.
Ah I know, just hang in there! The school year is almost over, you are in the thick of it right now but hopefully it should calm down a little soon ❤️
I would like ideas on things to do over summer breaks to decompress and that cost little or no money $ to do and still get out the house.
That is a good idea especially since summer is coming up!

It's so interesting hearing your experience! This was my 3rd NASP, I think, and this was the most chaotic. NASP is actually one of the smaller conventions I've been too but it's still a lot hah. I think the chaos was kind of a function of it happening right after Mardi Gras. If I remember correctly, in other cities you could register Tuesday afternoon, but that definitely wasn't possible because of Fat Tuesday. I never saw the long registration line because I had to present Wednesday morning, so I registered after I presented. I hope you go to other NASP conventions to see what they're like when they're not coming immediately after a huge event like Mardi Gras!
Ah that's so nice that you could register early at the other ones but you are right the craziness had to be because of the major holiday!! And oh my, you went to bigger conferences that sounds intimadating! I will try to go to more in the future, because it was fun and refreshing honestly
Just started as an intern! Thank you for this.
I'm so glad that this helped! Have a great internship year, you are almost finished!
Thanks for these videos: the “why and why nots”! I’ve been a teacher for 18 years now, but always feel like a therapist while in class.. I want a change into this field. All the pros you named fit with me right now! I feel this is more of my niche. Being in the classroom all these years has given me a great understanding of children and their needs! The cons, I can deal with b/c as a teacher, I deal with worse cons now. Thanks for sharing this! 😊
I am so glad this was helpful! I am happy for you and let me know if you have any questions, I might be able to answer with your transition into this field! Good luck with everything ❤️
Thank you🙏🏼 as a baby intern psych I needed this boost, I am taking my praxis this week. I was looking for study videos and came across yours. Your words are so helpful and it was nice to know the passing scores too!
I am so so happy it helped you and good luck on your praxis this week🫶🏾!
was your grad school accelerated?
Nope, 2 years for the masters and then 1 year of the internship/class for education specialist certification 😁
The constant schedule changes add to the report writing every night and weekend. I’ve hardly ever had a day under 13-16 hours.
🎉🎉following
Thank you 🥰
You should also mention principals who are serious bullies and try to pressure us School Psychologists do unethical and illegal things because they can. This is the #1 reason School Psychologists leave the field and lead to the national School Psychologist crisis. I love my role as a School Psychologist but principals who bully are something I have had to deal with time and time again.
YESSS THIS RIGHT HERE! I completely agree, if they try to pressure you into doing something that isn't right, don't do it! They might get mad but it isn't our job to keep people happy by doing unethical things🤷🏽♀️
What kind of unethical things? What are the red flags to watch out for?
Thank you so much!! After a ten year hiatus from school, I started college this semester and have my next 7 years planned for a career in school psych. This channel is such a great resource🫶🏻🫶🏻
I truly appreciate your comment so much that made my day 😊 thank you! I am so happy for you!!! Sometimes that break is needed and now you are going out there and reaching your goals, I love to see it ❤️
I'm studying special education, would you say people who can get a master's in special ed can pivot to this career?
Yeah for sure! There is a lady in one of my schools that was a school psych and now she is working in special education. If some of the classes overlap (ex. Statistics) then it might make getting the school psych masters degree even shorter. It would probably just depend on what credits they would accept from your current masters to the masters for school psychology (technically in my grad program we received a masters of science in psychology and then the educational specialist degree and those two degrees allowed me to work as a school psychologist)!! I hope this helps 😊
Thank you so much for this video. I graduated in psychology 2017 and applying to my masters this October 1st. This was a great prep video. 😊 hopefully I get in for this upcoming year🥲 🙏
Good luck!! I hope you get into the school that you really want 😁😁 and I am so glad it helped! I hope you had a great weekend!!!!
I am a 20 year vet and I agree! The worst part is not being able to have a predictable routine so you can get it done. *School administrators who think they own you and can tell you what to do. * Teachers who take advantage of your kindness and send the same kids to your office all day for you to babysit them. * Not being able to find that routine so you can write your report. You misspell a child’s name in the parent report you to the school superintendent. I have so many school psych horror stories!!!
It can be so difficult sometimes but I am glad you were able to power through! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I love hearing other people's stories
Omg, I’m dealing with this mess now. I am constantly getting reported to the SPED department, by my own team. Teachers constantly send students to my office.
@karinazrzu that's so hard especially since we are all suppose to work together as one team!
@@natureangel33 since I’m 20 + years in, I’m pretty direct. My attitude is, If I’m so bad, replace me. Oh yeah….there’s no one. I purchase ALL of my therapeutic games, decor, fidgets and still get my reports in on time. Good luck finding someone better.
@@natureangel33 Yes, I agree
Thank you for your video. How do you know what assessment to give? Tracking counseling data?
Hii! For initial evaluations I do an achievement and a cognitive assessment, sometimes I throw in something extra like a phonological assessment. Then for the rating scales I do an adaptive (ABAS3) and depending on what was mentioned as troubling areas will determine the other rating scales like if they seemed to have difficulty paying attention then I would give a Connors. For re-evaluation, it depends on what the team decides needs to be updated. For counseling, I just keep notes of the student on my laptop with the date and time I see them. Hope this helps 😁!
Thank you following.
Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you natureangel33 for a glimpse into your first week! I liked your bright and cheerful outfit for the first day! :). What extra copies of templates or protocols do you keep in your vehicle? How many schools do you travel to this year? Thank you!
Aww thank you and I really appreciate you watching! I usually keep the WISC and WIAT in my car and then I also have been keeping the shortened IQ test in my car as well! I have a middle and elementary school this year!
Thank you!
Ahh thank you! It’s my first year as a school psychologist and I really needed this lol Can you make more?
I am so glad you liked it 😁 I will try to make more in the future! That is a good idea
Thank you
Thank you I subscribed, I took a year off and I'm going back. It'll be my 2nd year
Yayy thank you for subscribing🥰 and congrats on coming back for your second year 🥳 that is exciting!
Thank you, I was eagerly awaiting your video! Very practical tips that will inspire me to follow suit. I hop to use the SOAP writing structure from Rebecca Branstetter’s survival hide book. Two questions I have: What are good goals to grow in the mental health area as a school psych? How to group your students into groups- how many, etc? How to help the school do better at implementing the SIT process effectively.
Ah I'm so glad that made me day! I never used the SOAP so let me know how it goes! I think for goals,4th grade and up it might help to have them journal and write at least 2 postive things that happen to them everyday and then if they want they can share it when you meet with them. For younger kids, working on interactive activities or games that get them thinking more positive and deeply could help. For grouping it depends what kind of group. For example, I am going to see a couple individual students for behavior to teach them coping skills then after 4 weeks, I might join them together to work on it. For social skills though, last year the social worker and I were picking kids from the same grade that had autism spectrum disorder and the group was about 7 or 8 kids.
Oh and for the student intervention team part, honestly it's so hard sometimes but I think if you can communicate with the team at the beginning of the year that helps because otherwise people may be on different pages due to being told different things by their supervisor of how it should work or they genuinely don't know the roles of different people on the team. They may not be aware of why we shouldn't test every student or the MTSS model for example!
Thank you for the detailed examples!
Very helpful to do this week as 5 reevaluations by Oct. 13. Now to pace myself with testing, writing reports, and taking two classes
I am so glad this helped but good luck! You are busy but you got this 😎
Thank you! @@natureangel33
