Bad day for my Haybine! Part 2: The fix

In an earlier video I showed the aftermath of what happened to my push bar when mowing some very heavy, tall grass. That video can be found here 👇🏻 ua-cam.com/video/rMaoh4UqhC0/v-deo.htmlsi=ZLHjrSXpnA9mJb6K Here I show the new pushbar made for it and how we fixed the mower. I’ve mowed 17 acres with it since and it works great.

I did same but use a a/c condensor its way bigger. Like 30inches wide and 20inch tall. Inlet Temps are 220ish Oulet temps are 85-95. Works great. 2005 f150 a/c condensor come with 90degree lines attached to condensor. Made setup super easy.

@@johnnygarcia71 hoping if someone reads this they save a little $ using A/C condensor and gain alot more cooling than a small trans cooler, just be sure to flush condensor with some isopropyl alcohol to remove PAG oil if it's used. You can buy 1/2" crush sleeves for like 3$ at lowes in plumbing aisle to mate condensor to compressor head and tank. I'd recommend a f150 one just because it has two 90 degree adapters that screw on condensor and can be used to adapt to tank easily with compression fittings. Goodluck with your project

My new to me 08 575 gave me hell this weekend. Finally got it to make knots after several missed bales. Then we snapped a shear bolt - I think it was too much material that caused it combined with weak shear bolts.

    • @TheScientistHayFarmer

Might want to double check the cause of the shear. It would take an insane amount of material to overload a 575.

Also do not buy a haybine unless it's a hesston 1110/20, case 8330 or mf1459! Joking but seriously a good series of mowers. No wobble box, easy belt changes and ticor or rubber on steel rollers that hold up better than New Holland. That said there are a pile more new Holland in my area out there for sale.

I couldn't believe anyone would mess about like this. Cheep bungee cords or a mate pulling the strings from the end of the chute is surely obvious! Sorry to be negative but that was just weird😅 ps the strings can be as long as you like, just pull them out the back then trip the knotter😊

I’m me and just me, I don’t have a mate, and I find bungees work awful. Half the time they still don’t pull the knot off. Great idea about pulling the strings clear back. I don’t know why I never thought of that!

So I made essentially this same setup, except I have an IR compressor(175psi). But instead of running a single filter after the Derale radiator I ran a 3 stage Nanpu set from Amazon. Filter, coalescing then desiccant dryer then into the tank. Within 3 seconds of turning it out the 1st filter stage of the Nanpu blew apart. Looks like three of the metal lugs holding the bowl cannister on had just sheared off. The cannister flew down and smashed into the floor with all the plastic parts busting everywhere. Dented the metal cannister also and a small piece of something had flown by my head. I think it was one of the lugs. My first thought was that the nanpu, which I'm sure is cheap chinese pot metal, had a stress fracture in it. My second thought was that having all three stages inline created to much back pressure and the 1st stage gave way. I am using 1/2" NPT so the lines are big enough. It was probably a combo of those two items. My goal was to have the air as dry as possible going into the tank. But when I replumb it I think I'll go with just a 1st stage filter/regulator and put the coalescing and desiccant filters after the tank. Also, posted this as a warning to anyone else trying it. Take precautions when starting it up the first time with any modifications, like turning it on from the break far away from the compressor! ha.

You guys already know this but, Josh is super awesome guy. I have watched all his videos and watched others. While his videos are top notch in my opinion, I had an issue with my 273 today and I posted about it. Josh not only stayed up late helping me prep my mind for the dreaded day ahead (I got hardly any sleep at all), but he also stayed with me practically most of the morning going over knotter timing and several other issues with me. Josh practically got my baler going with a blind fold on from the other side the country! In the end it was his thought to check the knotter brake that got me going. I got the last bit baled thankfully. But I’ll be replacing brakes before second cut. Thanks Josh.

I have been looking for a self propelled hyaline that I can restore and upgrade with some decent light bars and air conditioning. I grew up working on a dairy farm and my earliest memories were getting up at 4am and going out and running the tetter on the back of the diesel Ford tractor and then going out later in the day after the hay dries and rake it up and then bale the Timothy. I was always one of the team that would bale and stay the Alfalfa and afterwards blow huge black snots out of our collective noses with the dust...I am a PhD chemical engineer now and I miss those days .

I didn't see it mentioned in the comments but i believe your pickup chain is installed incorrectly. The rear drive sprocket turns clockwise. The chain should travel from the bottom of the rear drive sprocket over the top of the front pickup sprocket (so that the chain will pull directly on the top of the pickup sprocket to reverse the direction) and then on to the lower idler and up and over the upper tensioner and back to the top of the rear drive sprocket. I'm looking at the nh269 factory op manual for my baler and it has an illustration (figure 55 on page 37) showing the routing.

Do you ever sharpen the twine knives on your square balers? If so, how? File, flapper wheel? Do they need to be razor sharp? Thanks

A sharp twine knife keeps the twine from getting stuck on the bill hook and causing trying and breaking issues. There's a single bolt and nut holding each of the two knotters down. Remove those and you can flip the whole assembly up and get access to the knives. I just use a small fine tooth file once a year. Leave the lock nut and bolt a little loose to allow some minor movement when you put them back or else the knotters can bind up.
