The Hudson Valley Pottery Tour is a rare opportunity to view and purchase one-of-a-kind works and get an intimate look at the inner workings of multiple local artist’s studios. Admission to all the studios is free and open to everyone, and the tour will take place this weekend, October 19th-20th.
Bailey Pottery has been in Kingston, NY since our beginning in 1976, and since then we have seen the ceramics and arts community continue to grow and flourish. Now in its eighth year, the Hudson Valley Pottery Tour contributes to this wonderful growth.
We caught up with Tim Rowan, one of the talented artists opening his studio, to get a preview of his space and chat about his artistic journey.

Ikebana Inspired Vessels and Arrangements Tutorial
Переглядів 4652 місяці тому
For this project, we were inspired by the ancient art of Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging. It is a centuries-old art form that feels fresh and meaningful today. We wanted to keep the aesthetic of the vessels minimal and sculptural so that the blooms worked in harmony with the ceramics. Clean lines and a dark charcoal glaze provide a visually quiet place for the eye to rest to keep ...

Hello, before putting the color blue, did you put some varnish or something to insulate?
Wow
Love how the come out. A great collaboration
Beautiful pieces
❤❤❤❤❤
This is exactly what I’m looking for. Thank you!
Hi! for small pieces of this style, do they have to be emptied?
What is the blank die used for? Can it be used to just compress the clay? Almost like a pug mill?
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing your creations with us 😮❤😊
What is the name of that gun looking tool,I need it
Hey quick question. What is bisk firing to cone 04? Is that firing in a kiln? Thanks
Hey, Great question. Bisque firing refers to the practice of an initial firing of the ware in a kiln to make it impervious to water. It makes the piece absorbent for glazing which we apply and fire in a “glaze firing” to a higher temperature. The cones we speak of are Pyrometric Cones that melt at specific temperatures. Cone 04 is roughly 1945 degrees Fahrenheit.
neat!

Wow! I’m so honored.
Superr!! Que bonito!! 👍☀️
Thank you sooo much. I’ve been trying to find tutorials for mini animals to make jewelry!
Weight?
How long did you leave the clay in the mold before you remove from it? Thx
I believe it was just over 24 hours. You will want to monitor it because drying times will vary based on the humidity and dryness of the studio climate. Let us know if you try this technique, and how it goes for you! Happy making!
@@baileypotteryequipment9181 thanks
So helpful! Thanks for sharing.
Our pleasure! :)
Thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊
hi . whats the cord you have used to string in the beads for the final design ?
Hi! While we sell the products used to create the beads, we don't sell the cord. It is a waxed cotton cord found on Etsy.
i love it! what brand of oven are you using for?
Great question! You could fire these pieces in any ceramic kiln. We prefer our trusty Bailey Kilns or for a smaller option a Paragon Caldera Test Kiln. You can check out the options we carry here: www.baileypottery.com/store-dept-gas-electric-kilns/kilns-top-loading-electric-kilns-by-brand.html?cat=109
Hii...explained so well ..want to ask is this air dry ceramic clay ? And which colour used for coloring on beeds?
Thanks so much! This isn't air dry clay. It's a mid-range porcelain called "Tucker's Bright White". You can find links to the products used at the very bottom of our blog post page: www.baileypottery.com/blog/post/create-ceramic-beads.html
@@baileypotteryequipment9181 thank u
Your videos are amazing. You do a great job of covering all the key steps, without any extra fluff. Exactly what I was looking for as a beginner on my wheel throwing journey. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much! Best wishes on your clay journey. At Bailey, we're here for you!
Thanks so much - great concise tutorial 👍🏻
Glad it was helpful! Happy making!
What is the clay # ?
Hello! That would be Mid Smooth Stone by Tuckers'. You can find the products used here at the bottom of our blog post: www.baileypottery.com/blog/post/handbuild-a-fairy-house.html
Do you have to have the dryer or can it dry on it’s own?
Would this work to make a square plate? It’s just difficult to tell from the video. Thanks!
Hi Debbie! Thanks for asking. Because the wheel is in the round, I think this technique works best for round forms. However, slabs of clay can be draped onto the square forms. You can see the variety of slab molds we offer here: www.baileypottery.com/store-dept-pottery-ceramic-tools/store-handbuilding-sculpture-tools/store-handbuilding-sculpture-tools-slab-and-tools.html
Is underglaze a special glaze or just glaze used in the special technique?
Great question! "Underglazes - Underglazes are used in pottery to create designs and patterns that will come up through the glaze covering them, which can give the surface more visual depth and character. They are applied to a greenware or bisque surface, then covered with a glaze. Commercial underglazes are formulated so they stay where they are and don't tend to bleed or move." Que bonito! Me gusto!
Gracias! :)
i would like to find those leaf mats

How can I get your beads
Thanks for your interest. We don't sell the actual beads. The tutorial is to show how one can create ceramic beads with the ceramic tools and equipment that we sell at Bailey. Hope you have a wonderful day!
