German here. The class is named after my state. This ship represents our stupid German politicians after the "end of history" in sheet metal. So our “warship” should be like a German dream car. Expensive, hyper-modern, flexible, few operating personnel and operating costs. But with (imagined) Lego brick mission modules that are deployed in a very short time, connected to the ship's electronics with one click and ready for use. Ideally everything should be fully automated, just no expensive people who might cause problems with their gender diversity. Everything is built to last and ideally far away at sea, very far from Berlin. The necessary marines are transferred to the ship at sea. Why heavy weapons? Ideally, German politicians see the responsibility and the bad press in England or, even better, in France. You can comfort them in a “brotherly” way with clean fingers (joke). No matter, now in the video you can see the existing (empty) step extension for a missile combat system on the foredeck. It was never implemented ...

Fine video. I think this ship is just enough for its own in the peace time we have now, but in a war situation, the ship will alone, not be very able to defend it self, but that is also just non realistic situation. In case of some kind of war, big or small, the ship will be part of a strikeforce, combined with Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Belgium, French, and UK forces. Maybe also Norwegian ships. All countries that will operate in northern part of Europe. I also think that these ships will not operate alone without the German Type 212A Submarine supporting them. Beside this, when the new Type F126 Frigats, which 6 have been ordered, start to come, the German navy will be quite potent.

The best example of what can be done when two allies like Spain and Australia join forces, a pity there's only 3, let's be honest, both the F100 and F110 designs are better than the British frigates you have bought, even the RAN agrees on that, they wanted more F100s but politics got in the way and now you have a ship that will be late and twice as expensive as planned. Lets hope that with the new programme your government will make the right choices. 🇪🇸🤝🇦🇺

in the Type 26 future multi mission frigate program the 24-cell VLS for the Sea Ceptor surface-to-air missile should be swapped in favour of the proven Mk41 & Mk48 VLS or the SYLVER A90 VLS for that matter . . . it's nowhere as versatile as the Mk41 & Mk48 . . . and RIM-162B ESSM semi-active radar guided surface-to-air missile instead of the Sea Ceptor . . . it's time Royal Navy realize & stop making one mistake after another . . . for e.g. Royal Navy's QE2 class 82,632 ton (86,243 loaded) multi mission (STOVL) aircraft carrier powered by iFuelCell2™ M-FEP system . . . a brilliantly designed & (British) built carrier with certain flaws that are no longer less forgiving . . . so much so that the navy is thinking of selling the two STOVL carriers to interested customers like India & Brazil . . .

Well the Disaster-Ship got lots of Mistakes: - As expensive as four #Elbphilharmonie concert halls in Hamburg. - The ship is listing 1.3 degrees to starboard, as listed in a confidential addendum to the armament report after the 2017 trials. - The promised ammunition is not available for the new ship gun and made by an Italian Company. - The frigate is overweight. It was already discovered in 2016 that the Baden-Württemberg exceeded the contractually agreed weight by 178 tons. - The naval officer says that when they were planned, no one thought that the Navy would ever have to fight at sea.✋😆🍷 - At that time, "stabilization missions" were the focus of the German army. The frigates can therefore take special forces on board and have helicopters and four speedboats with them. They can detect divers approaching the ship, but the crew would not even notice if a submarine or torpedo was heading towards them. They cannot defend themselves against submarines or torpedoes at all. - Wrong Fire Protection Color inside was painted. - The underwater paint on the hull didn't hold either. It chipped off over large areas, allowing mussels to attach themselves to the hull. - much more.....

To me this is the stupidest idea the U S Navy came up with. Why put all ones eggs in on basket so IF a get hit, everyone on it is gone instead of using 3 ships mas we did during Vietnam Conflict. The IWO JIMA LPH Helicopter Carrier class ships carried 2100 troops and more on LSD and LST in the ARG's. That way we didn't lose everything at once.

I personally do not think the German Government [s] have eve been able to 'get over' the amazing proud legacy of the their second wold war platforms. Stripping military bases who were named after brilliant WW2 officers another example. What a waste - a 7,000 tonne behemoth - a sitting duck.

The Hobart has some weakness the EGIS only has PESSA technology and I think only 2 fire control radars for terminal phase guidance of Missiles. It also has a limited number of mk 41 VLS. It is an inferior design to the Type 45 destroyer of the Uk that has AESA does not need to guide missiles in the terminal phase and carries 48 VLS with another 24 on the way for Sea Ceptor. The AEGIS is also built onto the superstructure and has a shorter radar horizon then a mast mounted radar.... the Auzis should have bought British...

The RN should develop an arsenal ship that is a drone ship, 12 crew to run it, tiny wheelhouse and flush deck with hundreds of launchers. Missile can be fired remotely from a type 45 (the lead) boat. a small cat and trap for radar plane and some small refuelling aircraft, cheap as chips with devastating fire, however BAE are slow at building ships and are not very bright.

They are ASW specialist frigates first and foremost, sure they are also multi mission capable but they were designed from the outset to be specifically ASW frigates, everthing else come second, this is something the Aussies seem to have forgotton when they tried to turn it into an air-defence destroyer.

Ridicolous? All that weight for nothing, no capabilities, no Cruise missiles, no land attack capability, no big gun for land support, no rocket artillery, no air defenses of the best European manufecter like the Aster 30 NT or even the Iris -T ER or the CAMM ER, the only weapon that maybe can hit a couple of targets beyond 300km is the RBS 15 MK3 Gungnir but the rest is just ridicolous doesnt make sense that a country like Germany was always a paper tiger on water since WW 2 and the U-boat fleet, why such a huge ship for spending fuel or just to impress i think, Germany is a enigma never invested in a Cruise missiles or a heavy anti ship missile the Swedish sell the missile and i know why is like the Taurus KEPD that SAAB Defence develop and some german company contribute and TDW made the warhead but that missile is total Swedish now they want some thecnological development in the RBS 15 MK3 Gungnir that i have a felling that will start to be co-produced with Germany, why such a huge ship when they never wanted to jointly develop the FREMM or other design, because the arrogance of the made in Germany they are not selling more then the Italians, arrogant bastards! So why not buy a destroyer from France or Italy?! They want to sell thats their only compromise more then the defence of Germany, why not jointly develop in Europe something to equipe with a European Cruise missiles and a great land and ship attack missile like the TESEO EVO or the RBS 15 MK3 Gungnir and the SCALP Naval MDCN with extended range from 1200 to 1600km and a new missile from the Aster 30 NT that have a range superior to 160km and a new upgraded version is easily capable of defending a ship to 250km easily, a common Torpedo like the Black Shark Torpedo heavy Torpedo and the MU 90 for submarine warfare and the Milas to strike far targets above water or dived, they have everything already like a couple of 35mm Millennium gun or a MLG 27 NG a awesome 27x148mm cannon with 1700rds/min and is powerful as the 30mm. Is all about Europe arrogance from some countries with the arrogant tought of being superior, period thats why Europe will never go nowhere because Germany just use Europe as a export pool and some more influence and soft power around the globe but they dont respect Europe

Viel Erfolg dabei....

A frigate needs a month to reach a typical operations area and get back to Germany for maintenance. So you lose 30 days of a 180 days mission. F125 can stay for 2 years. So for the same mission you save 1/4 of a year. So 4 ships have the same time at sea as 5 more conventional ships.

The role of this ship is less focused on actual "frontline" naval war, but more on a-bit-of-everything. What i mean by that are the tasks that dont require a sh*t ton of firepower. Like rescue, reconnaissance, escort, keeping pirates away, patroling, etc.

  • @DarkRendition

They build them in-country because it's worth more than the jobs. It's to maintain the operational status of the shipyards to ensure that the UK does not lose critical and highly specialized Navy shipbuilding talent, intellectual knowledge, tooling, and the shipyard itself. War ship delivery can take over a decade and if other countries have maxed out their ship-building capacity then the UK must rely on its own now-defunct facilities. By the time the yards are spun up and the workers are reemployed it would be years before any construction could even begin leaving current units with outdated and inadequate systems. Basically, the UK can't afford NOT to have continuous warship production. It's just the price of being a major world power.

Who says the design of the f100 is by Gibbs & Cox? The Americans told the Spaniards that it was impossible to put the Aegis radar on a 6,000-ton vessel without compromising its operation. When Spain presented the f100 the boss of Gibbs & Cox fired their engineers for shame. The Spanish design not only maintained the capabilities of the Arleigh Burque but were able to detect enemy missiles 5 seconds before the US destroyers by having the antennas a few meters higher than those of the US Navy. You can watch the videos on UA-cam. The f100 is a work of Spanish engineering that has no comparison.
