When did going to the doctor become a luxury!?
Going to the doctor, dentist or psychologist shouldn't feel like a luxury, but right now for so many people across the country, it does.
Woolworths and Coles are bragging about their billion dollar profits. Meanwhile people are choosing whether to forgo their groceries or medication for the week. It's sickening.
If big corporations paid their fair share of tax we could use that money to ensure our community never have to make decisions like this again.

Calling out the government's response to the Disability Royal Commission Recommendations

Our Mental Health Care System is Failing Young People

Thank you Rachael for your contribution to the Raise Our Voice campaign. You so articulately described your experience and interactions with our mental health system. I know your words will unfortunately resinate with so many people out there. As awful as it is to learn about how systems have failed people like yourself, calling out these failures, is an essential step towards addressing them. ...
Breaking down our GP 4 Free plan
Переглядів 4614 днів тому
You and I both know that healthcare costs are spiralling out of control across Australia. People are being forced to choose between buying groceries, paying their bills or going to the doctor. No one should have to make that choice. Everyone should be able to go to the GP for free. That’s why the Greens have a bold plan that will improve the health of our community, and bring down the cost of l...
Why going to the GP is so much more expensive than it used to be
Переглядів 6114 днів тому
If you're struggling to afford to go to the GP atm you're not alone. When Medicare started 40 years ago it covered 85% of the cost of a GP appointment. These days you’re lucky if it covers 45% of the cost. At this rate it’ll barely cover anything in 40 more years. Increasing the Medicare rebate for longer appointments is one of many things the government could do to address this ever growing ga...
Perth's rental crisis won't solve itself
Переглядів 16621 день тому
Perth has a ~0.6% rental vacancy rate and is now considered one of the hardest cities in the world to find a rental. People are being forced to compete and outbid each other, and more and more people don't have access to safe and reliable housing as a result. The rental crisis isn't going to solve itself. The government have the power to make changes, but they don't. When we head to the ballot ...
Real reason for inaction on housing crisis
Переглядів 215Місяць тому
We need to start being honest about why we're still seeing inaction on housing and you deserve representation in Parliament that will do that! The government's latest answer to the housing crisis was a scheme which would've helped 0.2% of renters buy a home. It also would've driven house prices up even higher over time. Where would that leave the remaining people looking to buy homes who weren'...
More protection for renters now!

Housing is a human right, everyone deserves a place to live. But in Australia our rental laws are archaically stacked in the favour of big business and the mega wealthy. We need new laws urgently. A National Renters Protection Agency would play a key role in enforcing these new laws.

My hope is that continuing to amplify your perspectives in the Senate, makes their ignorance harder and harder to justify.

I’m a quadriplegic and the government took all of my workers directly after my mum died. And I’m leaving Australia because it would be safer because it’s a lot cheaper. Thankfully, I can rent my house and live overseas. Thank God I have the movement and the assets I worked for 10 years to attain, assets and nobody will ever take them away. I’ve got four older sisters and my dad trying to make me sell my house because it’s too much work and I’ll be better off some smaller and I’m like equity is the only tool I have you dumb fuck stay out of my life. really don’t like talking about all of this because I’m a human but yeahtr disability industry is out of control. Chronic ptsd from it and just pray for those who can’t escape

Because the government sees it self as above people with disabilities we are just the dirt under their feet sadly. Our rights were at a Royal commission and still they only took notice of a very small number of recommendations. People with disabilities are not getting human rights respected at the same time level as others in society yet there is no significant action to change this . Our government knows the statically how our rights are violated. Yet no action. Australia needs a human rights bill the only way we have any opportunity to be treated equally

Jordan, why do you want to destroy Australia? Why do you want to increase the numbers of physically and mentally disabled people? And if it won't happen on its own accord would you start pushing towards turning able brain and body individuals into disabled?... Oh wait, you're already pushing to that. Do you hate Australia because you hate yourself? So you want this all nation to be as miserable as you?

    • @amandamandamands
      @amandamandamands 3 дні тому

You do understand that isn't why it is done as a large number of disabilities aren't hereditary. It is usually done to females so that they don't have to worry about periods etc. Stopping people reproducing is just an added benefit, and the people who have that viewpoint do believe that their family member is capable of being a parent. Majority of the ones that have that viewpoint infantilise their child rather than making sure they have the life skills that they need. You don't usually hear about males having a forced vasectomy.

After my plan was cut by 75% 12 months ago I felt like my life was threatened after 12 months of fighting NDIS my plan has increased its now $15k less than where I began from . They’ve lost reports x3 done an internal review I never asked for . Looks like labor are going after low hanging fruit as opposed to exposing their own corrupt system & that of corporations like SERCO COSTING US $158,844,796 to supply 400 staff WITH great KPIs but little else . KPI is key performance indicators. They don’t understand any part of any disability.. Why is $3k of my plan going to an O/T whose report they ignore . NDIS want a detailed report from my spec but who’s going to pay for it ? And who’s going to read it ? Because only another medical professional is capable of interpreting a report written by a treating specialist..NDIS support is supposed to build capacity I have done that x2 now . Got to point I was able to function with less support . Only to be so traumatised by NDIS I went backwards . I really don’t feel up to much atm .

  • @amandamandamands

Yes, Medicare rebates haven't kept up with cost of living and if you need to see a specialist then the gap fee is even bigger. It is really horrifying to see pathology say that they haven't had an increase since 1999 and they won't be able to bulk bill for much longer. If that happens then there will be a whole lot of people who won't be getting there blood tests which are an early indicator for if something is wrong and can turn it around before it becomes a big deal.

  • @amandamandamands

Have to love the way that they are focussing on the small amount of misspending (and how much of that was because the person didn't know that they couldn't spend on what they did because they missed the nuance of who could have it and who couldn't) rather than the companies that are billing for services that didn't happen or padding the bill for services that did happen. For some reason Bill Shorten seems to think that having the providers being NDIS approved would magically solve all of that because they are verified. Being verified just means that one person filled in some paperwork and paid the processing fee. There is zero auditing or physical follow up to make sure the company and their employees actually do the things that they filled in, or that any of the employees are actually competent at doing their jobs. I know that by the time I wrote this they backed down on services having to be NDIS approved but the interviews that Shorten did regarding this he sounded over it and snarky.

People with disabilities are real people look at how much attention gets put into abuse to abled body people in society when it happens once. But people with disabilities in group homes might be abused on a daily basis yet our government doesn’t care. This is disgusting I don’t know of a disability that stops a person from being traumatised yet our government makes it impossible for someone with a disability to escape from repeated abuse and trauma if Bill shorten would not allow it to happen to him why would he stand in the way of justice for vulnerable people who can’t often stand up for themselves??

I feel for parents in this situation, I am so thankful that I have a support coordinator and a plan manager. That they expect parents to understand all the different codes and what they can and can't get is a big ask, especially as people who work in the industry aren't always sure.

  • @amandamandamands

Yep, the criteria is based on how autism typically presents in white boys and is based on deficits. You have managed to overcome those deficits no matter how maladaptive it is or how much it takes out of you to do so then you don't qualify for a diagnosis. This is one of the reasons that mental health issues are so high in the autistic community, you have to be at the stage where you can't cope anymore before you qualify for a diagnosis. I know people who meet all the criteria for a diagnosis but they are considered too social so they don't get the diagnosis, that ignores the socialisation they have been put through all their lives that you must make small talk, you must make eye contact because otherwise you are being rude. The assessor is just seeing that they can do those things, not asking the questions regarding do you make eye contact naturally or is it something that was drilled into you, small talk is it a way that you naturally talk to others or were you trained to do it etc. Same with the levels, they are based on how well you can 'pass' in neurotypical situations and doing things the neurotypical way (adults having a conversation, for children conversation and the way that they play). It has zero to do with how much it takes out of you to do that if you can and what other things you struggle with. There is this misconception that 'high functioning' automatically means low support needs or no support needs. There is also an assumption that if you are highly verbal that means that you can also do everything else for yourself and are also capable of adequately advocating for yourself.

  • @amandamandamands
    @amandamandamands 10 днів тому

So true, they always do what is considered gold standard. That means that statistically speaking it helps the most people, not that it helps all people. You are one of the people that it doesn't help then you are medically non compliant or aren't trying hard enough. Couldn't be that the approach doesn't work for you, or in my case that I had the wrong diagnosis so they were treating the wrong thing.

NDIS caused a lot of tragedies in mental health community, social group based support existed before ndis was amputated, we face an ocean of choices: vast majority are terrible choices, vast majority of providers(agents), support workers are money-oriented, very unprofessional, clients are likely to be misled by support coordinators and plan managers. One of the main purposes of ndis is to save money for government by taking advantage of the silent disability community, if you understand this, the seemingly complicated ndis is not hard to understand. Conscience and wisdom are seriously lacking, in the whole country as well.
