Let Us Actually Be Lights Unto The World
A video discussing the meaning of being a light unto the world and how we can implement the same in our lives through adopting godly behavior, as opposed to simply doing nice things.

Correction Is The Pathway To Our Goals - And To God
Переглядів 3214 днів тому
Video where I riff on some ideas regarding the value, finding true value, and how to, and how this is connected to the discernment and the existing and imperative importance of not shielding people from their consequences. Although not done intentionally, this video is connected to my previous video "Forsaking Our Sins By Doing Our Best."

Purported Cursings Sometimes Are Blessings
Переглядів 31Місяць тому
A brief video (taken a while ago, as you can tell by the hat and weather) to (slightly) reframe the discussion about God's blessings. In short, what appears as a "curse" could actually be a blessing. But as a caution, I say "could" be a blessing. To be clear: some cursings are that cursings.
Thrown Into the Fire

Sometimes (if not always) the thing that we hold to is the things God needs to take away from us for our own good. And even if it feel we've been thrown into the fire, we'll come out refined and better for it. I give an example of my daughter to teach this principle.

This video discusses the meaning of the Remnant of Jacob, identifying who they are and their function in the end times. To do this, I discuss the following things: 1. Explain how the Lord works among nations 2. Explain the meaning of Gentiles as used in the Book of Mormon 3. Explain one mechanism God's uses to judge the Gentiles 4. Explain who the Remnant of Jacob are and their role in the end ...
Bittersweet Joy

This video was recorded a while ago, but the message is still relevant. I discuss the joy in seeing people waking up the lies and propaganda, but I also recognize that this joy is bittersweet because many who wake up have not repented.
The Fools of Zoan and Noph (Part 3)

Standing in God's Way to Our Improvement and Happiness
I know your struggle and I know your sorrow. The best you can do is be a light in the darkness. Some of that light sticks with them and when they're at their lowest, they'll remember your light and your words and make course corrections, just like you are doing. But some won't and all you can do is move forward. You will lose many friends and be shunned by family, but as you move forward in the light, you will find new friends and new family until you find yourself in the family of our Savior. This is the way.
Brings a whole new meaning to sifting the wheat from the chaff and how the gathering works. We share what we can and then must depart -- either through physical separation or death. I am fortunate, however, that you live close to me-- and thus I am not alone. Thanks for your help!
Nephi was "visted" by the Lord three times. The first time was simply a softening of his heart so that he believed his father. This implies that Nephi was uncertain to some degree initially. After the third visit, Nephi was all in.
Thanks for making this video. I don't know you personally but hopefully will one day. These videos you have made do help and one day hopefully we will be able to see eye to eye. Thanks for being a good example.
Thanks for the kind words. These statements help to give me motivation to continue pushing forward. But I won't give up. I gave everything up for the Lord to stop now. But I have greater understanding on what it means to sorrow for the sins of the world. I hope I continue to be a light in your life.
We are all mixed up for precisely this reason. Some improve a little, and very few a lot, but the process is necessary-not just for that, but to better understand the Lord’s experience and have the chance to accrue greater joy when we meet those more like ourselves or better than us.
Very true. The future sifting of the righteous from the wicked will be hard and gut-wrenching, because much of that separation will be from friends and family, but it also opens up the door to gathering with people who are like-minded and the sorrow will turn to joy. I am fortunate, however, to have a supportive wife and a child (the other one is only 1) who truly loves the Lord and desires to know him. It's been a tender mercy. Also having the internet to communicate with people of light is a plus that holy men in the past did not have. Although this mode of communication will not be around forever. Nevertheless, thanks Rob for you support and help along the way.
@@teshuvahareturn my pleasure. I'm glad you're here.
Inevitable flow to Zion: 10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. (Isaiah 55)
This is a wonderful and phenomenal sermon. You should be a General Authority!
Coming from you, not sure if this is a compliment or not. ;) Too bad this type of content is not being preached from the pulpit, and instead the focus is on temple attendance without the work of repentance. It's a shame because General Conference talks in that past (although still correlated) at least placed more emphasis on actually changing and becoming like Christ. Heck, even the primary hymn ("I'm trying to be like Jesus") has more truth packed into than a typical General Conference talk -- but I digress.
@@teshuvahareturn This was definitely a compliment! The LDS people desperately need to hear and internalize what you are teaching.
@@jaredeastley9640 Thanks. As long as I have a voice and God gives me the words, I'll continue to do so.
The obedience of Christ in spite of every hardship showed that “it is in the power of man to keep the law and remain also without sin.” (Lectures on Faith, Lecture 5)
Love it. Can't believe how many times I've read Lectures on Faith and didn't realize it taught the idea of sinlessness in clear plainness. I'm snagging this for my upcoming Elders Quorum lesson, btw. Appreciated, as always.
@@teshuvahareturn Same here. It's tucked right in there--should have probably been the very first sentence of the series and it's own lecture on it's own. It's funny how hard it can be to see through our scales.
Great video, I’m extremely grateful that you take the time to make these. Especially appreciated the part about love and discipline. Mirrored what I’ve been trying to learn as well that there really aren’t different kinds of love, but instead if love requires firmness or chastisement or anything that the recipient isn’t going to like and we fail to do it, it is not love but fear that motivates.
@@Bstone610 Thanks! Can you explain more about it what you mean? I want to make sure I understand.
@ Thanks for asking I’ll try to be clear. The world tends to describe love as if it was always gentle or pleasant to be experienced. And while it certainly can be that, there is also real love that is unpleasant to the recipient and requires the courage of the giver, like correction. So we will say we have to show “tough” love when we have to do something the recipient isn’t going to like. I don’t think we need the “tough”qualifier because it isn’t the act that determines if it’s love but the motivation behind the act. Love is being willing to suffer to benefit someone. Sometimes we lie to ourselves that we are being loving to someone when all we are really doing is avoiding what we need to do (e.g. kick out a child that needs to grow up) for fear of the suffering we anticipate being caused by their response. Then we just enable the problem further. I think the misunderstanding of what love is leads to a large majority of parenting problems because parents are afraid to do things their kids won’t like.I hope that makes sense. Sorry for the novel
@@Bstone610 No worries. I appreciate your thoroughness. Plus, I don't get many comments on here anyways so length is not an issue. In any case, I agree 100%. I'm actually planning on doing a quick video to explore this idea more. I actually did one today, but didn't like how it sounded and then ran out of time to re-record. As you essentially point out: Love is tough love. There is no distinction between "love" and "tough love." And you're right, most people don't discipline their kid out of fear their child will not like them or because the act of discipline and the effect it has on the child will make the parent feel bad - or even worse (perhaps?) the parent is lazy. It's sad to see. But it's all too common. And the result is we get entitled, spoiled, and lazy kids who demand the world, but do little to contribute.
@@teshuvahareturn For sure. I'll look forward to the video. Thanks again.
Thanks for this. I really appreciate your content. Gives me hope.
Thank you.
To your point: … despair cometh because of iniquity. (Moroni 10:22)
Thanks for the video. I appreciate the time you take to teach. I'm not on your level, but I can give advice regarding one of your latter points. If you do get a gun, get a semiauto 9mm rifle. Ammo is relatively cheap when compared to other calibers, the recoil is soft, soft enough your wife or child could use it if need be. 9mm carries enough velocity you could use it for large game up to 100yds or so. And 9mm is a almost perfect self defense round. Godspeed.
@@SteveSmith-zq3ti thanks for the advice. I'll certainly look into that. Not sure where you live, but do you know of any good self-defense/gun safety classes in Northern Utah? I'll also do all that I can to help you come into the Lord.
Spot on. Thank you!
Agreed, James, that who is elected may slow the rate of the inevitable. I do pray that we all are given more time to become holy and masters of choice rather than slaves to sin.
This is great James! About a year ago I got really honest with myself about why I don’t experience things described in the scriptures like the Holy Ghost. It’s a very exciting journey thinking you know everything you need to know for eternal life and then realizing you haven’t even taken the first step. Thanks for teaching it so clearly!
@@cadenallred967 by the grace of God. Thanks for the kind words. Im glad this helped!
Great analysis.
“Have mercy, O Lord, upon the wicked mob, who have driven thy people, that they may cease to spoil, that they may repent of their sins if repentance is to be found;” -D&C 109:50
@@Surefoundation504 yes, this is at the heart of the gospel (no pun intended). To have your heart drawn out for men -- including our enemies.
Amen 🙏
Beautiful. And: the more complex a democratic system, the less likely it is for wise people to be elected. The same principle applies to all human networks. Isaiah’s descriptions were not limited to government. We see them being fulfilled in families, friend groups, workplaces, neighborhoods, and every other human network. Wise people are not wise in the eyes of fools, nor are virtuous people admirable to those who are not virtuous. Only a just system will exalt the righteous.
Very good point! Thanks for the insight! Yes, networks at all levels. I also imagine that in many networks (particularly social networks) those hubs are sustained by light bearers. Once they are "removed" (called out, killed, etc) those networks collapse.
Very insightful episode! It got me thinking big time.
Thank your bro
I %100 believe that without charity we are nothing! 😀. I have had my share of grudges and yes I was miserable 😩 it’s a sad thing to be hurt by the very people that are closest to a person such as family and friends . But I know we must let it all go and pray and love everyone! Well said. I do have a thought about conference talks I love general conference talks. I don’t receive salvation or exaltation from a general authority But I believe the purpose of general conference is to exhort the members of the church to remember Jesus to come into Him and feast upon his words . I think general authority’s talk about the temple so much is because the House of Lord is where people are healed by the Lord and are able to be strengthened by His Holy Hand to withstand the adversary’s attacks and to receive the Lords enabling power to more fully forgive everyone that wrongs us
Right? I have had the same as well and all it did was hurt me. Yet, despite this, we still hold on to them and all this does is act like acid to corrode the soul. If we want to be people who the Lord will preserve for what's coming, this is one area we have to master. Can't be of one heart and one mind when we hold anger against our "brother/sister." Did not Christ say cast the beam from our own eye? Did he not also say that before we worship him and we are in conflict with our brother that we are to first reconcile ourselves with him and then offer the gift? These things are some plain in the scriptures, but yet people refuse to listen. Yet, there is a reason why Satan promotes anger. Not only does it divide, but it stifles and even neutralizes the voice of God. And without that, we are blind and lost.
@@teshuvahareturn agreed this is a constant challenge that is a continual work in progress lol 😆. But we can do it ! 😀. We must pray 🙏 more fully for the gift of charity 😀
I think people still have those spiritual experiences at temple dedications but they are so personal and powerful and intimate to that individual. I also think that The Lord manifests Himself in powerful but subtle ways. But a third thought of course is we don’t have the same strong faith in The Lord that the early Saints had. I think that as we get closer and closer the Saviors 2nd coming it will Be harder for His saints hold fast the iron rod that’s probably why President Nelson has told us and plead with us to increase our ability to receive personal revelation. I just finishes a book called, “ when church gets hard”. And it was talking about how marginalized members of the church are struggling to have their spiritual needs met by the The Lords church and love and support from his saints. So sorry for this long winded answer but maybe we don’t have the same manifestations is because we as a people don’t have strong enough faith hope and charity .
Thank you for grappling with the question and not rejecting it outright. Yes, that is on the right track, but there is more. Here are some follow up questions: What causes one to be of strong faith, hope, and charity? What do those words even mean? Further, if we are LDS members are deficient in these areas what does it say about us and about the strength of the Church as a whole? Will our membership in the Church be enough to endure what is coming? The early saints had greater manifestations that we do, but they were also rejected by the Lord (see D&C 124:45), what does that say about us? These are things not to take lightly.
@@teshuvahareturn the scriptures say that we are saved by grace after all we can do. One could argue that all we can do isn’t very much at all we of course can’t work our way into Heaven . People need to develop Christ Like attributes and in doing so I think we are we do develop those attributes then our faith hope and charity will grow. For me barring my testimony on fast and testimony meeting is a great act of faith for me because public speaking terrifies me . President Hinckley said that the genius of the church is that everyone has a calling which purpose is to strengthen the people faith hope and charity so I do believe that valeting members of the church that keep their covenents are are honest with The Lord when repentance is required and president Nelson says that let repentance be a daily joy 🤩. So yes I do believe that things will be great for everyone who can serve the Lord with all their heart mind and strength .

Money
Yup--money we don't have.
So I love all that you’re saying! 😊. I have a thought 💭 the minimum is a tricky in my mind because for example the cost of living is so high in California so the fast workers need that higher wage to survive at all. We went to San Diego and these people have to have 2 jobs just to pay their bills but on the flip side because of these minimum wage laws employers are claiming that they’re having a hard time making payroll to pay their employers because of their higher wages.. I’m not sure they’re being honest with that claim .
Ryan, thanks for you comments. I hear you about California. A couple of thoughts. First, one reason cost of living is high in California is due to California's public policy which includes a heavily regulatory environment and high taxes. Second, even if cost is high, people are not forced to live in California. If the expenses are too great they have the option to move (as least for now). Problem with min wage, besides violating the personal accountability principle and the law of justice, is that is actually makes it most costly on the employer the higher employees (especially small businesses) and therefore fewer workers are hired and/or cost for the consumer increases to account for labor costs.
😊 you’re looking good buddy 😊
