As i got to the bottom i saw 2 big cracker and i could hear the KOB going wild in the area. Once i moved to teh rock in front i could see the big shoal of KOB and the other Poensie to my right. Did another couple dives and did not see any of them again. @pathosprospearfishing1804

Did a bit of traveling to find some clean water and dived an area that has probly never been spearfished before. Only had 2 dives on this spot had to run back quickly to catch the day light but will be back, still need to have a good look in all the caves and work around the area a bit. @pathosprospearfishing1804

Spearfishing Southcoast - The new normal

Having found some new spots some 7km offshore spearfishing these areas have become an incredible experience. The south coast of KZN South Africa and my home reefs. instagram: don_solomon_pathos_sa @pathosprospearfishing1804
I like the new design on those supremes
They were some cool looking fish!
horizontal reel 50 I had to glue the o ring back in , and I hand carved a better handle knob from hardwood that has enough length to clear the tension knob ... still don't like it but it works much better. I replaced it with a cheap $70 Pacific reel basically an mvd clone and it's much much better. I did notice your better shooting line management you glued into the cuttlefish pretensioner and I made my own from stainless thanks so much for that its great , the tiny plastic ones it had weren't sufficient for double shooting line , it always popped off in current . and I put he new upgraded line release mechanism .... so now finally the guns worth having...what a journey thanks pathos hahah,
that all said the gun has always been super accurate ....
@@charliemaddock3459 i just had an oring pop off. Yeh super glue and off we go. I love these reels, i wouldnt use anything else.
Hi, what would you recommend for shallow waters, a 82cm or 90cm Pathos Laser carbon roller? Thank you.
@@RenzoValdivia-u3i if the water is often clean id go with a 90. Also depends what u hunting, if its small fish in caves a 82
You know what can I say some of the best equipment money can buy, Pathos there are a few things 3 mm is like nothing on earth. Can't wait to get new equipment when I move to Europe, Eg the Med.😊😊
💪💪💪💪💪
pathos is great
Well done to Kyle! Proper fish.
nice one! how deep was the dive
Don, what is your UK shoe size? I see you are using the 10 - 11.5 UK size foot pockets. So you should be a UK9-9.5 shoe size? correct ?
Hi, i use a UK10 shoe. The 44-46 fits me perfectly.
@@donsolomon8501 Thank you -glad to hear I bought the correct size pathos foot pockets then
Got myself the same 3mm opencell wetsuit, amazing heat retention
Fish looks bigger than you. Would take an effort to haul that up from depth.
Beauty Amberjack 👊👊👊💯
Great footage, just please my guys, dont flag each other with the spearguns, accidents happen and no one wants to swim their friend turned into a susatie back to shore.
Lovely fish and finally a video where I think I could reach the bottom. I am not sure how you can spearfish so deep. What fish is this?
Its a black Musclecracker.
I converted my Pathos Laser Open Carbon to an inverted fusion roller using an MVD roller ram -- one of the best configurations in my opinion -- the shots are so smooth and very accurate.
You have massive balls diving in that visibility water. Some nice fish there! Is this mid south coast or further down south i.e. Southbroom and further down?
Yeas Don you really do make it look easy hey! Love the shot placement, killer
Ek kan nie glo hoe naby jy aan die vis kan kom nie, het gedink hulle sal baie meer skrikkerig wees. Jy laat dit maklik lyk. Great video
Howzit Don kiff channel all the best Orrin
Awesome footage Don the Don!💪🏽
Nice
hi i’ve got a pathos carbon 100 roller and was wondering what the recommended 16mm and 14 mm booster length’s are ?? thanks
The 16mm roller rubber is 1 length and will be 120cm. The 14 booster is 57cm
thanks Don appreciate your reply also can the line release newer handle “ side release” be swapped from RHS to LHS ? cheers
@@andreasgavriel8374 yes it can
thanks swapped it around now works great appreciate your help
what is the effective shooting distance?
Nice one Don
Nice shooting and a monster breath hold. Wish I had a breath hold like that.
Did the newer version with side line release fix the top pin issue? Users using mono having issues with the line slipping when double wrapped, hence why the Ermes kit upgrade offered previously.
Ive never had an issue with the pin drop, ive also used triple wrap with no issue. Ive tried the side line release it carry the wraps fine. I still.prefer pin drop mech its super compact and i like how the shooting line sits against the handle. A side release is always prone to damage.
@@donsolomon8501 triple wrap with a mono or dyneema? How thick is the line btw?
@@sparcousa i use a 1.8mm coreless dyneema.
@@sparcousa ive got some epic footage of the pin drop in action. Its really drops the dyneema very well.
Just got the 115r and the 75r!
Nice!
Is it heavy at the tip? I have the sniper-r 85 and I had to glue the neoprene under the head because it was too negative.
What spear are you using? I don't have that trouble. Neoprene ballast would be very inconsistent. Another option is to take the roller head out and remove some of the ballast, not all. Find a happy medium. But this all depends on what spear you use.
@@donsolomon8501 Spear pathos 7 mm, original length. However, with the neoprene I have recovered the trim and it no longer weighs at the tip. The problem also gives it with other lighter spears... but I solved it
Hi don, just sobering if you have had any experience changing out the roller mech to something that runs on bearings? Thanks
hello, please which is best, saragos carbone or laser carbone on 100cm? best 2*14mm ou 2*16? or single 17.5? thanks
Depends what your use will be. It all depends what you hunting, and is it for competition or just day to day. I think a 100 with 2 x 14 is perfect for a all round gun with a 7mm shaft. Also consider a 1 x 17.5 or 18mm with 7mm shaft for fast reload and medium power for dirty water.
@@donsolomon8501 thanks for your answer i'm juste for day to day hunting, clear water i'm looking 60% precision and 40% power
@@mouezmoez6342 I would go for a 110 or 100 Pathos Laser open Carbon.
@@donsolomon8501 thanks a lot, decision laser carbone 100...with 2*14 sigalsb ou c4 bands
Yep, saw your older video and have been rigging mine like that since I got the gun. One thing I found was that if you use dyneema that is to thick the knot where you tie onto that spear becomes to large and it gets caught in the roller head and somehow snaps off that thin bit of plastic under the roller head. There must be a heap of power and force at the roller head.
ya it's very powerful so it's important that the shooting line is perfect every time. I use a "rapala" knot on my dyneema shooting line. I've never had any hold ups at the muzzle. I also always use the hole through the spear that goes into the cassette. I like that the dyneema takes up some of the lateral play and keeps the spear centralized.
What size dyneema is recommended for a pathos carbon roller 100cm gun? Thx!!!
Hello Don. Really impressed by what you are doing. I noticed that you switch between two spearguns, laser carbon roller 100, and sniper roller 95. Do you have any preferencies regarding their performance? Also, do you prefer vertical or horizontal reel. Thank you!!
Hi. Thanks a lot. Yes my go to gun in clear water is the carbon 100 roller. When I'm diving deep I use either the 105 or 115 sniper roller. I use a 7mm spear on my carbon rollers and a 7.5mm on the sniper roller. So the sniper roller for me is more powerful as it has a 16mm booster band. It has better bouyancy and weight management for very deep dives. But less agile than the carbon. So for me personally the guns have their place. I've modified my sniper roller to take a 7.5mm. Both reels are brilliant, I use the vertical 70 purely to carry max. Reel line. Most of my diving is deep and therefore need 60m+ line. My carbon 100 I use a 50m reel with 1.5mm dyneema so I can get 70m on the gun.
I’m a huge proponent of Pathos, I think they are super guns and I recommend them to everyone. My guns are many years old and very well used, I have an occasional problem with one gun where the spear sometimes won’t engage when inserted into the mech - sometimes it won’t catch and then I really need to slam it in. It doesn’t always happen and when I took it apart, I couldn’t see an obvious cause. It’s the Diangelo II handle, any ideas?
That's very weird. Do you have have the spear line going through that hole in the back of the spear that sits in the cassette? Some times if you using a really thick line it can prevent the spear going in smoothly. Do you use the pin drop or side.line release?
@@donsolomon8501 Yes, I do have the line going through the back of the spear - it's not super thick line though - maybe that's the issue though. I did try the line on the sharkfin but really didn't like it - I can't quite remember why - I think it was something to do with it catching the wishbone while loading. I'm using the little pin line release. Do you think it's probably just the line on the back of the spear? It's weird as it doesn't always do it, but when it does, the spear just won't catch and I cant load the gun, normally for a few minutes, then it'll just work again. As I said though, very well worn guns!
@@BR0SE1DON ive also picked up this issue when some guys use other branded spears and the seer part is a fraction not the same. its rare but happens, ive picked up some of the old Rob Allen spear have a different seer locate and that can present some issue. otherwise, teh pathos casette is so simple, its very weird that there is something preventing the spear travel into the lock. my 100 roller is coming on 7 years old, my go to gun and its just fault less.
@@donsolomon8501 hey Don, I’m using the normal Pathos spear - the issue hasn’t been that the spear doesn’t go into the cassette, it’s just that it sometimes doesn’t lock into place / engage in the mech. That said, the issue didn’t happen once last season, so maybe it was just a small issue that’s fixed itself!? I think my guns must be similar to yours, 7 or 8 years old now. I’ve got the 60, 82 and 90 - the 82 is my go-to gun. In total, including the spear, it’s smaller in length than a Rob Allen 70 but has 5 cm more band stretch than a Rob Allen 90. Amazing compact gun, love it!
@BROSEIDON ok that's cool, perhaps there may have been some grit etc. Jammed in there. I'm glad it's sorted. Ya I think they fantastic guns. I am really enjoying the 75 roller now. Especially for dirty water, close range shots, Incredible
Nice one Don, now I’ve just got to try and get one. Heaps of stuff here is out of stock. Apart from looks what’s the difference from your perspective between vertical and horizontal reels?
The difference is not much. I use the 70 vertical to carry more thick line, all my competition guns have horizontal reels so that if necessary and I'm in a weird location I can beg n borrow Spares from my other reels. But most guys just have a preference from a style and what they comfortable with.
Very nice...!!!
Hi Don, I used your method of rigging the gun which worked best. I had the 90mm but the De’Angelo 2 trigger mech failed so got the gun changed under warranty for a 100mm same as yours. One issue with the roller head is the little plastic bit that sticks out the front, this was brittle and broke off. It looks like it shouldn’t do much but it makes loading the gun easier so removed Pathos roller head and replaced with MVD head. Now I don’t have the kicker band but I can load faster. I found there wasn’t much clearance under the bridle to get the spear through but no such problem with the MVD head. It would be good to see Pathos come out with a few different roller head designs. Do you know if any non Pathos reels fit the gun just incase I can’t get a Pathos one? Love the guns accuracy.
I only use Pathos reels. I have fitted other reels for customers the issue is the space between the floater and the grip, so that would be something to consider. Pathos reels are brilliant. I'm busy doing a video now on Pathos reel use and maintenance.
@@donsolomon8501 sounds good, just sometimes issues sourcing gear here in Australia. Actually right now there’re issues sourcing a lot of things, strange times. If I could get hold of a Pathos reel I’d use one.
