I have a problem accepting this. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one God. This God has always been and was not created or born. Therefore, God does not have a mother. However, the following is also true. Our souls have a spiritual heart, and in this spiritual heart, by the grace of God, the HS enters, and Christ, the savior is born in us. It is the responsibility of each of us to raise Christ in us from a baby to adulthood . First fed from milk than the meats of spiritual life until we say, we live no more, but Christ Jesus lives in and through us. We are, therefore, essentially a Mary. The Lord is in each of us. But the triune God does not have a mother. The Son of God is the Word or the Logos and always was even before the creation of the foundation. He does not have a mother. Jesus does.

Amen+ -- from a Married Orthodox Christian hermit in his shack in a remote part of the Ozarks repenting from a sinful life as a business executive. We can't truly know and commune with Christ if we're comfortable. Ascetism and suffering is absolutely necessary for the salvation of our souls... for knowing Christ and being Christ-like.

I discovered asceticism long before i discovered orthodoxy. I found Diogenes the Cynic a few years ago and wondered who kept these tradition, lo and behold it was the christians.

How do you relate, Father, to those Orthodox who do not follow the Julian calendar? They simply lose the fasting period before the celebration of the feast of St.the apostles Peter and Paul? The Early Church Fathers were against any form of entertainment, especially the theatres and wild parties. They say that those activities always lead to some form of sin and many have been led astray due to entertainment. From my perspective, there is nothing wrong or ungodly with a family and friends gathering where we enjoy some wholesome music, food, drinks, laughter, and decent stories and conversations.

When catholics fell into herecy same happened to their art with the raising of how ironic- the renaissance. Art lost it's spiritual essence turned towards this world and started degenerating ever since.

I find nothing of the sort in scripture, especially within the Gospels and the Apostolic epistles. Something went wrong during the third century. Yet, the Lord has always had a remnant people!

All of the pre-5th century "examples of iconography" you quote carry no indication that they were "venerated" at all. Neither do the Israelite tabernacle and associated objects. This is because the concept of the veneration of icons is a post-Patristic accretion. Men of faith like St. Epiphanius of Salamis (in Jerome, Letter 51) tore down an icon of Christ that was given veneration and historians like Eusebius describe the Christian church as distinctly devoid of images (in Eusebius' letter to Constantia).
