The Mostly Occasionally Show | Brandon Wenerd
United States
Приєднався 6 вер 2013
The Mostly Occasionally Show is a music, sports, and internet culture podcast. Hosted by Brandon Wenerd, publisher of BroBible.com, this show explores the crossroads of music, sports, culture, digital life, and those pivotal moments are when we lock into a groove on who we are.
The Mostly Occasionally Show explores the winding paths people take in life, told in their own words. It’s for those who’ve got something interesting to say-and sometimes for those whose personal growth is messy and far from Instagram-ready. Think of it as personal growth through the lens of a jam band bro: a little rambling, occasionally profound, and like seeing a 20-minute song live, you're not sure where it began or if it’ll ever end.
In addition to episodes, I'm also going to vlog about the stuff that like around here: skiing, hiking, the internet, music, food, life on the West Coast, my beard. Let's have some fun.

Jake Jolly: How Phish and The Grateful Dead Found Their Way Into Fox Sports NFL Games
Ever catch a Phish or Grateful Dead song sneaking into the bumper music during an NFL or college football game on Fox Sports? That's the TV magic of Jake Jolly-Los Angeles-based Fox Sports broadcast producer and jam band aficionado. Full name Jake Jolivette, he’s the mastermind behind blending Widespread Panic, The Disco Biscuits, Moe, and other jam band staples into Fox Sport's music packages, bridging the gap between live sports and the jam scene in a way live music fans can't help but notice.
I've bumped into Jake at plenty of shows around LA-clearly, we’re on the same wavelength musically. So, I invited him on the first-ever studio-recorded episode of @BroBibleOfficial 's Mostly Occasionally Show. We dig into his journey with Phish and the Dead, his college days in Ohio, and how he’s brought jam band energy to the sports world. Plus, we chat about viral moments, Twitter buzz, and the grapevine reactions from sports fans and bands alike. We had a blast yapping together IRL on a Monday afternoon.

I recently interviewed legendary entertainer Pat Boone for my podcast, the Mostly Occasionally Show. In the early 1960s, while hosting the Pat Boone Chevy Showroom, Boone stood up to advertisers and Chevy dealerships in the deep south who didn't want him to have the legendary Harry Belafonte perform on his show. In this clip, Pat talks about standing up for equality and doing the right thing du...

Jrad are absolute kings in the realm of dead cover bands
Always wonder who was responsible for those outros “someone a deadhead there at fox”
Back in the early 00’s they would play YEM on the Weather Channel.
it’s STOOPID AF HOW PRO SPORTS CO OPTS shit. Pro SPORTS R THE JOCKS WHO WERE DICKHEADS not deadheads. Liking the grateful dead or other cool music doesn’t make a person cool. Being a cool person makes you cool. Jocks not cool. Bo Jackson COOL, SEAN TAYLOR COOL, Walter Payton COOL. Joe Namath COOL. Steve McNair COOL.Rod Smith COOL.Randy Moss COOL.
grateful dead are not a jam band
that perspective would be hard to defend.....although the Dead's music has its roots in blues, folk, rock, jazz, and other older genres, the core essence and structure of much/most of their songs is improvisation, hence "jam".....they never play the song the same way twice, which is their inherent beauty, and why people love them so much, as my friend says, "music for smart people" ;- ) while the GD don't "only jam", the format of their songs; 1. introduce structure 2. play 1 or more verses of structure 3. gravitate away from structure, often to the point of not even being able to see or hear (or remember lol) the original structure 4. introduce/tease the return to original structure 5. return to original structure before concluding song It is between #3-#5-#6 above that "jamming" (improvisation") occurs regularly.....
@ subjective perspective doesn’t need defense, setting up a conflict that doesn’t exist think anything u choose shit4brains not a jam band. They do play things the same, they play things in variations they go off on solos & keep going on a given trip, many solos are very much alike.
Fox. The very most corrupt & dishonest studio ever. Fuck, fuck FUCK YOU BOTH. ESAD. FOAD. DIAF.
GDMFPOS!!!
Can’t hardly believe I just came across this… lifelong deadhead who tends to unconsciously say out loud to my non deadhead daughter, a football fanatic, “how lucky are you to know every dead song they play on football broadcasts!” - eye roll… lol! Thanks for sharing this insight to how it all comes to be! Love it & appreciate you Mr Jolly!
Thanks,Jake. More plz
Finally get to thank the man who handles the fox sports music!! Who also appreciates JRAD as much as I do!!!
Jake said Nutter Center 98, I think he meant Nutter Center 1997. Great show and I love he was referencing off the cuff a classic Phish show.
Dig it
around 19 minutes in is when they start discussing the title of the video for future peeps
Now I understand why I hear the dead during nfl games , you guys are cool down to earth fans , so glad you are putting the dead into the sports love it . Wish you left the Yankees implosion out of the conversation, lol.
Tweezer Reprise when Phelps won his last gold was EPIC
If you like... like, reeeeeally like the word "Like", this is the conversation for you!!! 🤣 i kid, keep on rockin' jake, love your creativity with the fox broadcasts!
@@jimlahey90 I know, not my strength. Gotta start somewhere I guess.
Saw that Primus "Return To Kings" show, and JRAD in the past couple of years. I had seen Primus a few time, and Primus SUCKS! by the way, but they had the darkest light show I ever saw. No follow spots, everything was from behind the band. Weird. JRAD was lots of fun, but they came around here about a month ago and I gave it a miss, I had my reasons, but none were that good. Get 'em next time. Very interesting interview, heard a little "Truckin' " on a Fox NFL game this past weekend.
WRT David Gilmour and Roger Waters, I believe there is a legal agreement about what they play. It may be something that has passed, and is no longer relevant, but there was something like that, for sure.
You say the Reds can't afford to sign Elly? How can a billionaire owner of a team not be able to afford a decent contract? The contracts are ridiculous, and a guy who strikes out at that high a rate (218 is 30 more than Dale Murphy ever managed in a season) cannot be commanding several hundreds of millions unless he's Aaron Judge as a rookie also mashing 52 HRs.
It's called $elling out to the indu$try. FOX = 666 in Gematria
Much love from Cleveland. Awesome. Keep it going brother. I remember watching a ball game and the dead playing on the way to commercial it was probably 2016. As a old deadhead I almost fainted 😆 🤣 🤣 🤣
Dark Star Orchestra is much bigger than j rad
As Metallica said, Sad but true.
bigger? maybe their guitarist is, lol seriously though, dso might be better, but bigger? i don't think so... jrad sells far more tickets than dso these days
@@jimlahey90 does Jrad host a 3 day festival?? Does Jrad play Year round tours from January through December? Jrad is on a list of large acts in the dead space to be sure. But DSO is the fiscal top of the mountain in the cover space.
@@johnstamos8403 I would be shocked of this were the case, I literally have seen them both in the same venue and one was packed out, it wasn't DSO. Not hating, love them both! Maybe larger following due to DSO being around for so long (and being a true cover band - literally mimicking actual dead shows)...
Jrad is better than dso
The Tweezer intros/outros on Fox Sports are the best!
Great interview. Very enjoyable
@@ParkerHarrington thanks for watching!!!
The Phish show that you're talking about with the fire alarm was 6.21.94. I remember this because the next day, 6.22.94 is probably my favorite show to listen to. Also, fun fact, but the fire alarm went off during Horse and, to my knowledge, is the only time that Horse -> Silent was ever broken apart? Maybe I'm wrong there.
WHAT!! YOU THINK YOU'RE TOO GOOD FOR THE BOOK?!?!
We were at the original fire alarm show in 1990 (maybe 89) Mable Brown Room Keene State College. No second set after it was pulled.
@@chrismagsmags I refer to 6.22.94 as "the coke show" lol
Beginning of the 3rd Quarter, Rockets by 5...
@@alvarhanso6310 1st quarter, Houston by 5... Yes!!! Right before they launched the rocket ship! Lol
Always wanted to see an interview with this man. He's def a chill guy that I picture as a typical jamband guy like myself.
Also fire alarm show is 6/21/94
thanks so much for watching!!!!
@@mostlyoccasionally Ya this is sick as a huge Phish nerd
Now tell us how String Cheese Incident & other jambands ended up on flyers & posters all over Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Jam bands are created by the music industry, used for predictive programming. "Widespread Panic"? Gimme a break
@@matthewsummayeah, and birds are fake. Sure bud.
what a cool opportunity
I remember that Superbowl package. It was 🔥 I had no idea that was the first.
This is swanky
Those were the worst John Mayer lyrics I’ve EVER heard.
1st view of video😊 and good one 👍🏻
Use in daytime .... traffic it work like magic....they are testing without driver in freeway in SF and PHX....also waymo giving doing 100000 ride a week in SF,PHX,LA...soon in Austin and Atlanta.... testing in Miami, Michigan,Dallas, Houston, DC, NYC, Ohio,etc...... massive scale in upcoming months or year
I agree, I use Waymo all the time now after filming and prefer it over Lyft and Uber. I think it’s going to revolutionize life in cities.
The band the best group of the 70s and all time😊
How did you do that???? U don't even seem like a VR channel how did u get this opportunity aweosme non the less I'm very jealous lol
Perks of the job
That's what they needed a scrap a good ol fashion scrap.. to get them ready for the 11/2 against the Buckeyes ... so ecstatic they pulled out a victory !
jack black ????
Even your laugh was guvibg jack black 😂
Man you surely look like jack black
Hahah I know. I get that all the time these days. People used to say "the guy from the hangover" but these days it's definitely Jack Black.
Does the 3s have the same graphics as the quest 3 or is it worse?
I can’t weigh in on that because I only have a Meta Quest 2, so it was a huge step up for me regardless.
Same graphical hardware as quest 3, just has quest 2 lenses
Damn it boy. Whats he driving?
With your freendzz 😂
Why are you talking like that
because I’m kinda of a dipshit I guess
Would be so cool to see the new joker movie on this screen.
Don’t want a crappy portion, don’t wear a crappy hat 🧢 Go Dodgers!
Moi qui est un pro mcenroe.... Svp à revoir le service de mcenroe pas très ressemblant
here's how SHOULD AND MUST be a tennis game in 2024, unfortunately this is only an animation ua-cam.com/video/rOJU2kRrKl4/v-deo.html
0:31 Lol This game looks just like Top Spin 4 btw. I recognize the animations. Very disappointing to see. Might as well play the almost 15 year old game.
PS2 graphic, no personalized animations. McEnroe moves look nothing like the ones in this game. Some generic crop very disappointed.
looks rubbish im not gonna lie. nothing beats top spin 1. ong top spin 1 gameplay looks and feels more realistic than this.
Looks like a side mission in GTA 4
... but literally 😂
devs are getting more lazy every year, this game is 90% the same as top spin 4. what a shame.
