Tractor-trailer simulation

As a project in Vehicle dynamics, fully configurable simplified tractor-trailer model was created. For small angles, this model should provide realistic results. The model is hence useful as a plant model to develop, verify and optimize controllers in simulation. The following assumptions were made to simplify the model. 1. Linear tyre model. 2. No lateral load transfer. 3. No moments due to hi...

    Hi, I have found your car phone holder mount with the metal bar on printables and had some questions. For what bar diameter are they made and which material plus printer settings did you use?

    • @TanmayChhatbar
      @TanmayChhatbar 9 днів тому

      The part was designed for a 3/8in diameter pipe. To maximize the circumferential strength, I used the 100% infill, and the number of perimeters required to eliminate the need for infill in the part that mates with the pipe itself.

      @@TanmayChhatbar Thank you for your response. May I also know the process that you went through. As a rookie i dont have much information but i was thinking of Design-ansys tests- making-flight test and soo. And will balsa wood be good enough of a material and can we make some components like nose and other parts of material different from the rest of the aircrafts body?

    • @TanmayChhatbar
      @TanmayChhatbar Рік тому

      @@Kratos-hi1kx Start with aero, then structure, then electronics. Aero - Based on the competition's problem statement, estimate the lift you'll need. Your best friend in aero design is a software called XFLR5, which helps estimate flight performance characteristics. What matters here is maximizing CL/CD while maintaining stability. There are great tutorials on the software, but at a high level, you want to define a wing with the airfoil and its shape, at the very least. For stability analysis, you'll want to add a tail as well. The software is quite intuitive. airfoiltools is a good website to get data on airfoils. Structure - Choose foam for ease of design and manufacturing or balsa if you're confident that you won't have to fix it frequently (or any other common material) Start with hand-drawn sketches of aircraft that might suit the purpose. Design process - Print on a piece of paper the packaging/sizing constraints and draw around them. Then, you can move to more involved structural design. Electronics - Simplest to figure out. Just find a motor and prop combination that is most suitable for the problem (what matters here is both static and dynamic thrust). Then choose the rest of the electronics around this choice. Testing - Spend as much time as you can in testing! Testing is where you will want to figure out what the plane-pilot combination is comfortable doing. You don't want to guess how much weight your plane/pilot might be able to lift on the day of competition. Remember, testing involves breaking things. If you're not breaking things, you're not pushing the capability of the plane. So, keep spares, for as much as the plane itself. Based on the competition's problem statement, estimate the lift you'll need.

      @@TanmayChhatbar Thanks on this valuable info dump! My team if pretty much done with the design right now, for us the problem statement is to make a commercial aircraft that can carry the golf balls inside the craft, loading and unloading should be mechanical and not touching with hands. So we were thinking of opening the nose of the plane like C5 galaxy with two servos along with hinges. The aircraft is not to exceed 1kg and T/W <= one they say. Our aircraft would weigh around 800-1000g the wing chord is around 24cm(rectangular) aircraft length is 80cm . We are now supposed to submit abstract of 15 pages . Any tips on that? I have hand sketches of 6 sheets i think shouldn’t i include that along with the abstract. Dont know what I should write tho. Yeah and we are going with foam board and balsa for longerons and ribs and some pla for reinforcements maybe even some aluminum rods will have to test all those out after making the plane.

    • @TanmayChhatbar
      @TanmayChhatbar Рік тому

      @@Kratos-hi1kx For the abstract, you can add the following in my opinion: - final drawings - photos of the build - detailed design of components for satisfaction of requirements - detail on comparison of solutions and justification of why you made the decisions you made (tradespace exploration), eg. material, wing geometry, packaging, loading. I'll suggest you use PETG or ASA (or ABS) for 3D printed parts instead of PLA. PLA tends to warp in the sun, and warps with stress over a long time anyway and is not really a good material for anything structural. Consider CF rods instead of aluminum rods. They'll save you some weight. Also, consider adding winglets. They help improve wing efficiency especially for rectangular and large aspect ratio wings significantly.

    • @TanmayChhatbar
      @TanmayChhatbar Рік тому

      Coroplast is stiff, but buckles easily, but you can make your plane using this. Just remember the disadvantages. The organisers might provide pilots to fly your plane on your behalf, I'm not sure. I know Mumbai offered it when I went, but it's better to confirm with the organisers. I assume by elevation, you mean dihedral. It improves aircraft stability, at the cost of L/D efficiency. For this compentition, I'd say it is pilot's choice. I would go for 5-7deg dihedral if you want stability, no dihedral if you're experienced.
