The Untold Story of the Toronto Raptors: From 1995 Expansion Team to 2019 NBA Champions
The Toronto Raptors pulled off what many considered to be the impossible during the 2018-19 NBA season -- winning the 2019 NBA Championship over the star-studded Golden State Warriors.
Toronto Raptors President of Basketball Operations Masai Ujiri made some very controversial decisions before the 2018-19 NBA season, but they all paid off in the end. From firing head coach Dwane Casey after the Raptors' most successful season in 2018 to trading franchise player DeMar Derozan for Kawhi Leonard, Toronto took the NBA by storm in its 24th year in the league.
But the story of the 2019 NBA Champion Toronto Raptors doesn't begin there; It started 25 years ago when the organiztion first entered the league as an NBA expansion team in 1995. From Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady, to Chris Bosh and Andrea Bargnani, to Kyle Lowry, Fred Van Vleet, and Pascal Siakam -- there were so many players that laid the foundation for this team to be successful years before Kawhi Leonard ever arrived in the six.
This On Deck Media documentary/mini-movie details a complete history of the Toronto Raptors organization -- from 1995 expansion team to 2019 NBA Champions.

The Miami Heat's NBA trade deadline pickup of Andre Igoudala was the best move they could've made
Переглядів 1694 роки тому
The best move of the NBA trade deadline was made by the Los Angeles Clippers when the picked up Marcus Morris, but the Miami Heat picking up Andre Igoudala from the Memphis Grizzlies was a very close second. The NBA arms race is slowly building up, and both Miami and Los Angeles came out as the frontrunners following the NBA trade deadline. Both teams made statements by picking up experienced v...
The Los Angeles Clippers won the NBA Trade deadline by picking up Marcus Morris
Переглядів 1024 роки тому
The Los Angeles Clippers didn't make any HUGE moves building up to the NBA Trade deadline, but I believe their pickup of Marcus Morris was the best transaction made of any team in the NBA This trade was widely viewed as the best of the NBA trade deadline, and I would have to agree. Marcus Morris provides unparalleled defense and he can do everything a team needs a player to do in the NBA. I had...

XFL RULES REACTION: Hate it or love it? Compared to NFL?
Переглядів 784 роки тому
I thought the XFL was a tremendous success in its first weekend, and I thought the new XFL rules were a huge part of it. My reaction to it was nothing but great things. I think the XFL rules add more of a flare to the game and make it a more exciting. Compared to the NFL, the XFL rules are very different and unique, and I think it's something that can only help the sport of American football as...
The best part of XFL week one was something you won't expect
Переглядів 254 роки тому
The XFL rules are the main reason it separates itself from the NFL, but there's another part outside of the XFL's rules that really impressed me in week one: the production of the event. Don't get me wrong: I love the rules of the XFL, but what stuck out to me was the production value of the games. It really felt like you were apart of the game and in the action itself. #XFL #XFLRules

Should the NBA have cancelled games following Kobe Bryant's games? This was a question and topic of discussion floating around pretty much every sports media outlet, specifically ESPN, following the death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant. I reflect on Kobe Bryant's death - My memories from the NBA Legend
Переглядів 374 роки тому
I pushed back this podcast a day solely to reflect on my memories of NBA Legend Kobe Bryant, and how he shaped the basketball world as a whole. It was great to see the Bleacher Report videos of Shaq, Charles Barkley and many other NBA legends all come together to mourn the death of Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant was an NBA Legend, and he set the standard for hard work and determination both on and of...

Derek Jeter is set to be inducted to the baseball hall of fame as a first-ballot hall of famer, but he was not voted in unanimously. Only one voter did not vote for him, holding him back from being the second-ever unanimous Baseball Hall of Fame inductee. While Derek Jeter will not go into the hall of fame unanimously, nothing will change about his reputation. Jeter is still one the greatest le...

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning announced his retirement yesterday, and here’s my reaction to it. Overall, everyone’s reaction to it has been very supportive of Eli Manning, and thankful for his contributions to the league in a New York Giants uniform. There are some players we never want to see retire, but all athletes have to face retirement at some point in their career. I wish Eli n...

A massive brawl between in-state rivals Kansas and Kansas State erupted at the end of the game Tuesday night, and this is my reaction to it. Purdue's win over Tom Izzo's Michigan State highlights that it's weirdest team in college basketball
I got goosebumps re-living that Game 6 in Oakland. Having been a fan from jump, I never thought the Raptors would go on to win it all EVER. I thought we were destined to be the "redheaded step-child" of the NBA forever. It kind of felt like a little brother finally beating his big brother in something. That entire playoff run from a diehard Raps fan perspective was magic, probably never to be repeated again in those same circumstances: Kawhi's unknown status, having the deepest team in the East, PHENOMENAL trade for Marc Gasol, etc. All the pieces had to fall in place for this to happen.
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯❤❤❤❤❤💯💯💯🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️
Great video! pls make more soon
Recruiting ruins college football. Same shit, different day. At least pro sports have a salary cap.
Jennica likes the Toronto Raptors
Didn't even mention Oakley, Davis ? Wtf
F'in awesome doc. Sry for the cuss words, but man I love basketball and I love Toronto
One of the best
I am here after the 2023 championship. Georgia 65 - TCU 7 If that score doesn’t highlight how CFB is boring and predictable, I don’t know what will.
People always bring up the GS injuries while forgetting the TO injuries. Also that TO was built on depth while GS was top heavy. Health is one of the biggest reasons for a champion to win, grinding through a full season and the playoffs. TO was built to manage it and survive it while GS was exposed for their lack of depth.
Kawhi completes his revenged on the warriors.
One of the best videos of this type that I have seen. A joy to behold from beginning to end. Many thanks for the effort, and the artistry.
Miss them.😢
Great Job!
That shot still chokes me up
Watching this again reminded me how full of BS, the so called experts were 😀
I went to the most non essential games in Raptors historic games and other some games i cant remember... First game against against the Nets, when they beat the 72 n 10 bulls and the game 6 when they beat Philly.... let's go raps n retire Kawhi's Jersey!!!!
No mention of "Mighty Mouse"? The original Raptor? lol Also no mention of the Rudy Gay trade that TURNED the franchise around to what it is now?
I am so sick and tired of listening to warriors fans saying the only reason the raptors won the title is because of injuries I say the media just makes excuses for the warriors and there injuries how about just say the Toronto raptors where the better team that won the title but all u get from the sports media in the USA is that this title was a fluke by the raptors witch is bull shit all I say they are just hating and can’t admit they where so wrong about the 2019 raptors
Kawhi IS the reason why that shot went in. Kawhi was acquired in order to make that type of shot. That shot isn't made by anyone else on the team (even DeMar).
first and foremost. the video quality was poor at best.... why degrade HD video to look like VHS? furthermore it was a scar on the city to celebrate an injury, but it's not like we are racist Boston. Lastly regardless of injury this season was a magical run season and truthfully even with a 80% KD and no Klay injury Raps still would have won. you suck
I will always be thankful for what Kawhi did for the raptors but I absolutely loathe giving up Demar, he was the heart and soul of the team and I still feel it wasn’t worth losing him for one year of kawhi
Neat!
KWhi is no dout shes a super star...
🦖🔥💪🏼🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I'll never this team because I watched every game during playoff to the final it was season to harvest for championship
Serge was great at the end with that huge smile of his saying “I’m an NBA champ now”
As involve as Drake was WHEN Raptors was really good with Demar, the team should of sign Drake as their point guard they've would of won a ring with Demar.
It’s rigged ... it’s entertainment money maker
Every year it seems to be Alabama versus some other team. College football is so one sided even though the tallent is getting spread more. Wait untill Texas A&M and Oklahoma go to the SEC. Then it will be all SEC teams in the playoffs. Gee, guess who will win? An SEC team maybe? Viewership and TV ratings will go way down then for a good reason.
Derozan was never a "franchise player". His defense was always horrible. He never QB-ed the team on offense or defense in his first few years. After 2015 , under the tutelage of Lowry , Demar learned how to QB the offense when Lowry was not on the floor. Due to his very poor defense Derozan is an average NBA starter.
The best klaw
yes collage football playoffs sucks but we do not need expansion lets say if we do care about small market teams i think we care small teams bring TV ratings i do not think so i do not think that bring the viewership anyway if we let them in anyway
Spoiler alert - Football in general is boring
There were 2 factors that denied the Golden State Warriors a three-peat: LeBron, and LeBronto.
The only issue I have with this great video is that you left out OG injury, and the history through the season of OG shutting down Durant through out. (also Toronto won every game in golden. lol )
5:20 gave me chilis
Damon Stoudamire was the 1st rookie of note for the Raps, he was worth a mention.
Quick question why is tupac in the tumbnail?
12:43 i loved that intro first home game of season . so electric still get chills and hair standing up on my arms watchin it
good video
You completely missed the Rudy gay era which was important but short as a raps fan... he’s the reason we got greviez Vasquez which let to getting powell... also the New Orleans pelicans were the last true expansion of the NBA.
People be like no KD or Klay. Firstly, Klay was there for almost the whole series until he was injured in game 6, and no KD was just an excuse, the Warriors won without him before SMH.
Kawhi should’ve stayed with Toronto, I think the logo of raptors fits well with kawhi leonard’s massive hands
4 teams was the worst idea
I don’t share your vision for the ideal future of college football. If you go to winsipedia.com and look at the unweighted rankings for all listed programs, you will see at a glance that college football has always been a blue blood sport. The names USC, Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Michigan, etc. have risen to the top of the college football hierarchy for a reason. These programs have, over multiple decades (since the late 19th century), committed the time, energy, money to field excellent teams. They paid the price to be where they are.
What? Michigan suck lmao
even more relevant this year
Great video. I wish it was a little bit more in depth. At least going through the years of pain and stress.
