Found these vids from Stacks and they've been so helpful!! For the ETA grants, do you have to have some ability in the language of the country you're staying in, or is it okay if you only speak English? I've never fully considered the ETA because I don't like kids that much lol, but do you know if you have the option of teaching high school kids, etc. or is it mainly for younger children?

    • @postaldelcamino
      @postaldelcamino Рік тому

I’m glad they’ve been helpful :) since I did a study grant, I don’t want to speak for the ETA grants, but what I’d say is : 1. I think requirements vary widely by county, so check the specific grant. I think for more commonly spoke. Languages there’s a bit more of an expectation because it’s more likely you’d have access to learning that language. Regardless, though, I think showing either a basic level or a very strong plan/ initiative to learn will make you more competitive. 2. Some countries have ETAs programs with universities so you don’t necessarily have to work with kids :) 3. I know for atleast Spain, many Etas had a strong command of the language while others had more intermediate/ beginner level. So definitely check the requirements of your country. Hope that helps!

¡Hola Timothy! thanks for your comment and thanks for sharing your idiom tip! Idiomatic phrases can be a good addition to "level up" on the exam and show your deep understanding of the language. With that said, I would not use phrases like "es pan comido" in the email as this phrase is a bit informal, and we want to maintain a formal register (think business style) for the email and essay. Here is a Quizlet of some idiomatic expressions, some more formal than others: quizlet.com/393825659/ap-spanish-idiomatic-expressions-flash-cards/ Overall, I recommend knowing if the idiomatic phrase is more informal (conversational tone) or more formal (for academic essays and emails) and then applying it accordingly.

@@paresafty7623 correct- If you are going to use idiomatic phrases in the email, stick to things like "estar de acuerdo", "llegar a ser" "tomar en consideración/ tener en cuenta", etc.-- all of these show a more nuanced understanding the of language by showing using expressions that aren't just literal translations from English, but are still expressions appropriate for a formal register.

Firstly thank you for this illustrative video. As someone who uses chatGBT, my comments on this presentation is; I really liked the part ''Creating texts and activities.''ChatGBT has advanced functions compared to similar AI's.For example it realy helps me about specifying the length of the text.I tell the word count at it creates the essay.Of course while using ChatGBT we shouldn't copy and paste it.But I think this really helps as insipariton.I need an outline to do my work and this takes time.I just ask chatGBT and it helps if I don't have much time to do my work.By the way, in this video it says that I can also choose the specify level.I'm really glad that I learned this.Because it is very important that my homework matches a certain level. From the video I also learned that chatGBT can create games for students! It is perfect because I will be a teacher in the future and this will be really lifesaving. Moreover, this can be also usefulful for the language learners.Because as Leah said,it can create dialouges in that language, identify any errors and explain them. But I want to add my opinion about something.Even though ChatGBT is very helpful, we should write what we want in a short and concise way, otherwise it can offer a suggestion irrelevant from the topic. That's why the keywords we choose are very important.

Hi Leah. After watching the video about Chat GPT for Language Teachers, I found myself intrigued by the potential benefits of using AI technology in the language classroom. The idea of using Chat GPT to provide students with immediate feedback on their language use is particularly interesting to me, as I can see how this could be a useful tool for promoting student engagement and motivation. However, I also recognize the importance of balancing the use of technology with teacher expertise and pedagogical knowledge. While Chat GPT may be helpful in certain areas of language teaching, it is not a substitute for the nuanced understanding and support that a skilled teacher can provide. Overall, I think that Chat GPT has the potential to be a valuable addition to language teaching practices, but it is important to approach its use thoughtfully and with clear pedagogical goals in mind. Thanks for your efforts for the video. I am waiting for the next ones.

Hi Leah. First of all, thank you for this beautiful video. I was excited by all the details of the video. Your explanation was also very nice. The introduction of ChatGPT and other AI chats similar to it made my work much easier. Sometimes I even use such applications to make daily or weekly plans. It also helps me a lot with my lessons. For example, it helps me find my activities while preparing a lesson plan or checks whether the ones I find are suitable. I think it could be improved a little more. The more details I give, the more logical writing it creates. I can use chatGPT and similar applications while cooking, besides the subject of lessons or Social Life. For example, when I write down the materials I have, it gives a lot of recipes. If I'm going to write about school, this and similar applications help me not only in preparing lessons but also in doing my homework. Although this is a positive application for future students, I believe that it has various negatives as well. Because students are now using their imagination and personal writing skills. they choose to get their work done simply by using such applications.

First and foremost, I want to thank you for creating this video and sharing your ideas with others via UA-cam. At the beginning I want to say that creating texts and activities by using ChatGPT is almost impressive technology but there is a big problem using these kinds of texts and activities. Beyond creating these texts and activities by ChatGPt, even created texts and activities by people are so mechanic that they are almost useless and students get bored easily while struggling with them. So, in my opinion, this feature is fascinating but I'm against these materials usage at least for beginner students. Again about task-based activities, they are too mechanical. I believe language is an alive creature and trying language education to do mechanic is harmful to language. People should let it be more natural and more free. I guess the usage of ChatGPT for grammar and vocabulary is the most beneficial feature of language learning via ChatGPT. I personally didn't try yet, so I don't know how successfully working it. But it seems too handy, instead of searching in books you just type what are you trying to find and it comes to you. Although they seem amazing, I believe technology and technological devices are not enough successful until gain consciousness.

Hello Leah, firstly I would like to thank you for this informative video you have made. As someone who is an English language teacher candidate and is interested in teaching, I found the video particularly engaging, as it offered a fresh perspective on the use of technology in the classroom. One of the key takeaways from the video was the idea that Chat GPT can serve as an invaluable tool for language teachers, not only in generating language exercises and content but also in providing real-time feedback and support for students. This AI technology can help us personalize their instruction and cater to the individual needs of each student, which can lead to more effective learning outcomes. Another aspect of the video that I appreciated was the discussion of the ethical considerations surrounding the use of Chat GPT in language teaching. You clearly emphasized the importance of using this technology responsibly and ethically and highlighted some potential setbacks that teachers should be mindful of. I also liked how you conducted the general questions and concerns. This cutting-edge technology might be well used or abused in some ways but we should always focus on how to use it effectively when it comes to language teaching. And lastly, by using this high-tech, we can create many materials, activities, task-based learning environments, conversations, contexts and more other tips you gave us.

First of all thank you for this informative video. It is very crucial to increase our knowledge about ChatGPT as language teacher candidates. In fact ChatGPT may help people in many fields but language teacher in my opinion give more attention to this app to improve their skills. For example; by using ChatGPT language teachers can create too many texts and material for the learning.besides that, language teachers can change its attitude and level according to our perspective.ChatGPT may be used to help learners improve their language abilities by offering feedback on their language use and serving as a companion in language practice by recommending activities for additional language practice. This video covers text creation, tasks, grammar and vocabulary, simulated interaction by means of ChatGPT. The first step is create texts and activities. At this part we can ask chatgpt to write an article, story, paragraph, etc. About a topic. Second part is more task-based activities. Here language teachers can create embedded texts to reach students at multiple levels in the class. Teachers can specify length, level, use of most common verbs, certain vocabulary, etc. The third part is grammar and vocabulary. At this part teachers can ask ChatGPT to generate a list of vocabulary related to a topic.

Therefore, I think they are very useful applications for teacher candidates. As you wrote, we can use such applications for nearly all kinds of lessons. I think it is quite useful. It makes me very happy that it helps us in preparing materials. I also recommend you use ChatGPT in your social life. From social chat to recipes. It can be used easily in any subject. 😄

Thank you so much for sharing this video, Mrs. Rogstad, I found it to be very informative. Your examples and insights on how to use AI in the classroom were super helpful and gave me some great new ideas. To be honest, I have already used Chat GPT to create reading materials and open ended comprehension questions for the same material for my students before, and it's been a total lifesaver in terms of saving time and making my lesson plan less complicated. But after watching your video, I can see that there are so many more ways that AI can be used to enhance our teaching. I loved your ideas about using AI to create many different types of tasks, inlcuding text based, grammar and vocabulary tasks. Although in my experience the AI can have some trouble when prepearing grammar questions. As a teacher, it's always important to find new ways to engage our students and make the learning experience more meaningful for them, and although the technology is still new and prone to mistakes, AI seems like a really promising way to do that. I'm excited to try out some of these new ideas in my classroom and see how my students will respond to them.

Hello Cansu. It's great to see how this video has helped you expand your use of AI technology in the language classroom. Your experience using Chat GPT to create reading materials and open-ended comprehension questions shows how AI can be a useful tool for streamlining lesson planning and saving time. However, you seem excited to explore the possibilities of using AI in other areas of language teaching, such as creating text-based, grammar, and vocabulary tasks. It's always inspiring to see teachers actively seeking out new ways to engage their students and improve learning outcomes, and I'm sure your students will benefit from your willingness to incorporate AI technology into your teaching practice.

Hi Leah, thank you very much for this video you made. Although Chatgpt has a rapidly growing popularity, many people are still don't know what this artificial intelligence can do. Most people talk about the bad aspects of chatgpt in education, that students do not do their homework themselves, instead they prepare their homework with the ready answers they get from chatgpt, but it is very nice that you explain how this artificial intelligence can be used better in your video. I have to say that I found your video very useful. The points you mentioned in your video are very useful for teachers. As a future teacher, I think that teachers should train themselves to prepare materials for their students. Chatgpt can really help us in this regard. Chatgpt can be very helpful in improving the material we have prepared, receiving feedback and completing our ideas and getting new ideas. However, it is important to remember that chatgpt can make mistakes. I think it is not the right way to get help from chatgpt in all matters and rely only on its accuracy. We need to be able to see the difference between putting out our own materials and having a virtual bot do it. Thanks again for the information on this topic.

Thank you very much for your comment, Sema. It is quite true that many individuals have been focusing solely on the negative aspects of ChatGPT. As future educators, it is important to approach this technology with an open mind and recognize its potential benefits. Leah's video provides useful tips on how to incorporate ChatGPT effectively in language teaching, and I believe these strategies can greatly enhance our teaching experience. Let us be receptive to exploring new possibilities and leveraging technology to better support our students' language learning.

First of all, thank you very much for this fruitful and informative video. It opens my mind about Chat GPT. Just like most of the other people, I also think that Chat GPT is very helpful while preparing and making a teaching material. If you find the proper questions and explanations to Chat GPT, then it can bring you a lot of materials. These materials can help you improve your students’ motivation for the language. Those materials can play a role for practicing the language. Sometimes you can give homework by using Chat GPT. However, I am strongly against one thing. Being a teacher is easy. On the other hand, being an effective teacher is a whole different thing and also what a society needs. If teachers use Chat GPT every time they can, then this will make the teachers lazy as the time goes. Following these reasons, teachers will close themselves for more improvements for their career and teaching skills. That’s why there must be limitations for Chat GPT. Teachers shouldn’t use Chat GPT all the time. Students shouldn’t use it all the time either. On the ground of that, teachers can improve themselves in preparing teaching materials without any use of AI.

Using Chat GPT is absolutely useful in a lot of things there are some times teachers can feel stuck and can't find a text or questions about that text so by using chat gpt teachers can step up on their game. Because as it is said although we can ask chaat gpt for a text or questions but we also need to check if the text is good for the students or if the questions are answerable. And with it, teachers can also get inspired by seeing the things chat gpt gave. There can be times when we are not sure about the level of the content and we can ask chat gpt about the level and we can ask it to change the level of the content if it is needed. There are always new things coming up so, we can ask chat gpt about them, and ask it to create new content on it. This will definitely make things easier. There are both good things and bad things about it but in the end, we should use it to our best interest and we should also show students how to use it because they will learn, and when they learn we want them to use it well. So, we should find ways to make students use it in a good way.

First of all thank you for such an informative video. I recommend this video to every language teacher and tecaher candidates. ChatGPT is useful for not only for language teaching or learning but also you can literally do anything you want with it. But you should be careful because ChatGPT can also make mistakes. But, it has improved really good ever since it came out. If we look at ChatGPT in terms of language learning and teaching it can help you a lot. You can ask ChatGPT to create tasks add activities for you. With few clicks you can get an activity or atleast an inspritaion for yourself. You can also specify what kind of text or what kind of activity you want. ChatGPT can also help you with grammar and vocabulary. You can also create grammar and vocabulary activities. You can ask ChatGPT to explain a specific grammar in a text. You can ask ChatGPT to use a vocabulary in a text. You can also ask ChatGPT to explain a specific vocabulary to you by giving examples. To sum up you can ask grammar vocabulary text and activity related questions to ChatGPT whenever you want but as I said be aware that ChatGPT can also make mistakes.

My dear friend Selo, you are absolutely right about that Chat GPT can be really helpful for teaching and learning a language. We can use the most out of Chat GPT by just asking the right questions or giving the right instructions. However, I don't think Chat GPT must be used excessively. If it is used excessively by the teachers, then this might make the teachers a little lazy. So, there must be a limit for the teachers. Otherwise, this function can be misused.

You are entirely correct that using Chat GPT to teach and learn a language may be incredibly beneficial. By just asking the appropriate questions or providing the proper directions, we can make the most of Chat GPT. But I don't believe Chat GPT should be utilized excessively. If instructors utilize it too much, it could encourage a little laziness in them. Thus, there must be a cap on the number of teachers. If not, this function could be abused.

I agree with you on Chat GPT being prone to mistakes. The newer updates seem to have less faulty replies, although since the AI lacks the human understanding, and it is trained by examining user interactions, it still can make mistakes. But it still an impressive tool that we can use in many ways such as the ones you have listed as long as we check the generated content before using them.

Hi! First of all, I really want to thank you for this really good and helpful youtube video, I really appreciate it and it really helped my homework. We all know that this video is about tips for language educators, meaning us, in the language classrooms. There are four tips and the first one is create texts and activities. Teachers can ask to ChatGPT to write and article etc. about a topic because we all know that ChatGPT has used a lot nowadays. The second one is that more task based activities. For example, you can create two different texts and ask for the students convert them to formal and informal texts. This method may be the easiest method for your students but it would be really helpful to them. The third one is grammar and vocabulary. You can ask ChatGPT to generate a list of vocabulary related to a topic and this may cause to provide more word learning for the students. ChatGPT can explain grammar topics that you would ask to it. So, we all can understand that ChatGPT is really useful for the language teachers and of course, language students. The last one is simulated interactions. You can ask to ChatGPT to chat with you in any topic. It can identify all errors that your students may make.

I appreciate your comments and opinion. It's wonderful to hear that language educators and students may find ChatGPT to be a valuable tool and that the video was helpful. I concur that ChatGPT may be an effective tool for creating texts, vocabulary lists, and explications of grammatical concepts. It's crucial to keep in mind that ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence model and could not always give correct or useful answers. Furthermore, while using ChatGPT to simulate conversations can be a useful way to spot mistakes, it's important to combine this with real-world conversations and feedback from a teacher or language partner.

Thank you for your comment. You've provided an excellent summary of the four tips for language educators that were covered in the video. I agree that ChatGPT can be a valuable resource for teachers and students alike when it comes to creating texts and activities, generating vocabulary lists, and explaining grammar topics. One point that I would like to highlight is the use of simulated interactions with ChatGPT. This is a great way for teachers to provide students with an opportunity to practice their language skills in a conversational context. Additionally,ChatGPT can identify errors that students may make, providing immediate feedback and helping to improve their language proficiency.

Hello, first of all, thanks for this informative presentation, ChatGPT has become a very used application today. It has many benefits for individuals both in terms of language learning, academically, and even in terms of chatting as a normal person. It has a very wide background that with artificial intelligence, it can convey not only dialogue but also all the information of a language through voice. When we ask ChatGPT to write an article, story, or paragraph about a topic when we want it to use the desired level, the length of the text, which specific words it will contain, the text written in a more formal language, and different time tenses, it can meet all the information it can even edit, written in different angles. It also has a very easy-to-use interface. ChatGPT can be used to provide students with individualized feedback on their writing or speaking tasks since it can produce human-like responses to natural language cues. While it may be challenging or time-consuming for a teacher to give comments to each student personally, this might be extremely beneficial. However, It is crucial to understand that ChatGPT should only be used as an addition to conventional language training; it cannot replace human teachers because it lacks a human teacher's capacity to comprehend the subtleties of human language or culture. Thank you!

I really surprised for the sentence ChatGPT has become a very used application today that you wrote, because I had written almost the same sentence. So, we really think same about this situation. I really liked the sentence that you wrote. It says while it may be challenging or time consuming for a teacher to give comments to each student personally, this might be extremely benefical. I also agree that ChatGPT cannot replace with teachers. It would be hard and sad at the same time for us and the teachers.

I agree with you chat gpt can be used in order to give feedback to the students, assessing them. This will definitely make things easier for teachers, it can speed things up. But of course, as you said the teacher should check what chat gpt wrote and add or delete some things. In the end, the best source is of course the human teachers so although there can be some things that can help, we need the human brain to work everything out.

Chatpgt has many useful features as you wrote. It is a good source of feedback especially for teachers who prepare their own materials. Not only in feedback, but as you said, chatgpt can edit a post. This is really a time saver for teachers. I hope as the day passes, more and more teachers learn about these features that they can use and use them in a beneficial way.

First of all, thank you so much for the video. The idea of using Chat GPT for language instruction intrigues me as a prospective language educator. The video demonstrates how Chat GPT, a sizable language model, can help language teachers in a number of ways. Chat GPT has the potential to improve language learning processes by providing immediate feedback on students' writing work and creating real-life conversations for speaking practice. My enthusiasm in finding fresh methods to incorporate technology into my teaching practice was piqued after watching the video about Chat GPT for language teachers. The presentation emphasized the possible advantages of using Chat GPT for language training, including fast feedback and accurate conversation simulations, which might significantly improve the learning experience for my future students. Having individualized and adaptive feedback is one of Chat GPT's benefits for task-based language learning. This can be especially helpful in activities that need students to utilize the language in a meaningful way in order to complete a task. With the use of Chat GPT, students can obtain immediate feedback on their language use, enabling them to spot and fix mistakes as they happen. This can support children in their academic success by fostering language accuracy and fluency. The generation of text utilizing Chat GPT represents a breakthrough method of content creation. Chat GPT can swiftly produce content that is coherent, contextually relevant, and suited to particular needs thanks to its sophisticated language model. It offers a quick and effective way to create written material for a range of uses, including blog entries, reports, social media updates, and more. With Chat GPT's on-demand text generation feature, authors, marketers, teachers, and enterprises can create content more quickly and with less effort. The responses produced by Chat GPT are based on patterns discovered through data analysis, so it's crucial to make sure the generated text is thoroughly evaluated for accuracy, tone, and appropriateness. Otherwise, the responses may not always capture the subtleties of human conversation. However, Chat GPT offers an alternative.

Hello Mustafa! Thank you for your comment because it is a well-written and thoughtful comment on the potential use of Chat GPT in language teaching. I agree that this video lists a number of advantages of using this technology including the ability to provide fast and accurate feedback, create realistic conversation simulations, and generate customized text. The emphasis on personalized feedback and task-based language learning is particularly significant, as it underlines the importance of individualizing instruction to meet the unique needs of each student. I think one should be careful when using Chat GPT because automatically generated replies may not always replicate the exact skills of the actual communication I mean human conversations.

Thank you for the video, it's a nice summary of what could be done with AI. It is sometimes a false friend, though. I'm an English teacher and made ChatGPT go into details about grammar, and I could easily make it confused and it apologised more than enough times. At this stage teachers have to be careful and double check what ChatGPT has generated. Later it will learn for sure. But by that time it won't be free any more...

You touched on a really good point sir. Sometimes ChatGPT solves really hard problems or it answers really tough questions but sometimes it just can't even give an answer to you at all or it gives you confusing answers. ChatGPT is of course something that everyone should benefit from but we also should be aware of it being a false friend. As you said ChatGPT learns from its mistakes but to be sure we should double check what we have done in order not to mess things up.

Because it doesn't have the ability to make decisions it has to be mostly makes wrong decisions. And another thing you said, if it will be useful as much as was promised it probably would have a charge. Although all of these roughness, seeing technology is developing day by day and one day it can be perfectly useful makes people hopeful.
