Classic Yacht Association of New Zealand Season Opener 2024 by Roger Mills
Superb weather on the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron Opening Day - and Roger Mills was at the start to record the Classic Yachts racing.
AThey sailed a short harbour course for the season opener, in fresh south westerly winds and sunshine. Rawhiti A2 took line honours looking rather overpowered at times with her large Genoa. Ariki was close behind - 41 seconds - and took out the handicap win.

"Arrived Newport in Fog" WINSTON CHURCHILL's 1967 circumnavigation
Переглядів 1,7 тис.Рік тому
We all know what happened to the WINSTON CHURCHILL. But her accomplishments in life have been eclipsed by her tragic demise. Many might not know of her whirlwind circumnavigation in 1967. A time in history when the word “laconic” began to be owned by Australians. What better way to hear the story than from the mouth of the inimitable Warren Neale crew member and so much more!

"YVONNE" A small syndicate, low budget, inspiring restoration journey
I can tell that Wyruna is going to be a winning endeavour ! I have followed quite a number of YT projects by now! Just by way of introduction I am a wheelchair - bound 75yo male who loved sailing. Those days have passed now, but I can still get a lot of satisfaction watching projects like yours. Did you follow the Tally Ho story on yt? Leo xxxx can't remember the surname, led the project which BTW was his own. I mention it here because I think you might find inspiration there! Leo really indulged himself on Tally Ho with extras such as cast bronze knees and floors. I couldn't resist thinking of that project as I looked at yours! You mentioned that Wyruna has some strong links to S.A.? Because it occurs to me to speculate if the historical aspect of the boat could perhaps have a financial benefit attached to it? I understand what can happen to the best laid budget in a project such as this! Anyway, may I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your efforts to preserve a valuable piece of our Australian heritage! Cheers, David Callard.
12' Cadets - THE best training class for teenage sailors ever . Loved my couple of years (1953 to 1959) in the class at RBYC.
Beautiful
Nice little film. Cheerful and relatable.
Just seen this - hope their restoration is going really well. Really admire this couple. I have a MG Good Hope 38, also built in Oz but launched 1990. Jarrah planked also but only to waterline, Queensland maple topside planking. I bought her in the UK and sailed to NZ where I live now. Wooden boats are definitely a labour of love but the character and feeling of them is so worth it!

Beautiful boat
Fabulous, stunning, such a work of art.
A great interview! So excited to be involved again next year.
Well done! Need to get this out to our networks. Thanks for all the effort that goes into making these videos. Cheers Chris.
Great looking whitehall
Magnificent.
Lovely cruising boat but.missing.a.bowsprit. with the main so far forward it would improve her sailing ability very much. Old sea.dog.
Love seeing these old wooden boats saved. Great job and dedication.
Is she sold
Hi there looking forward to the restoration of your boat Barry here from Melbourne and have a happy new year
Wild Wave was built and originally owned by my grandfather, Geoff Keats of Rose Bay Tasmania, and his brother Lindsay.
Love these motor sailor cray fishing vessels like this, the Jane Kerr and so forth. Would make great cheap running, long voyage expedition vessels
I used to sail on Wild Wave out of the Balmain sailing club in the mid 90s when Pete Harris had her .

love this !! happy 2 se this boat getting a new life...
Beautiful yacht...admirable project that has been taken on and completed. Not easy...on both the mind and wallet. But worth it in the end. Well done.
@southernwoodenboatsailing3703: you are not far off 18 months again ;-)
What a tonic. Thank you.
Get the steambox ready and lets build her back for the waves.❤❤
Nothing feels better than burying the rail on a fair day.
Brilliant video!
Wow what a fantastic restoration job she looks lovely thank you for sharing
this is a really worthwhile project - she's gunna be a beauty!
I’m guessing… the owners sold the boat along with the dream. There appeared friction between them and the initial boat builder bought in. So, I’m guessing the plug was pulled. Anyone know any different?
Where is this being done?
WHEN I SAW THE DIRT UNDER YOUR PARTNERS FINGERNAILS AND THE WAY SHE LOOKS AT YOU MATE WHEN YOU TALK 😊 YOU HIT THE JACKPOT FOR A PATNER THAT WONT EVER GIVEUP AND BE YOUR ROCK, (SAME PAGE FACE) CLARE !! 2 KEEPRS IN ONE LIFE😊 MAGIC!!! (Woy Woy NSW) HAVE EXPERIENCED 52 STH OCEAN SOUTH OF NZ, SHE WOULD EAT IT UP LIKE A "TALLYHO" IF REQUIRED. WATCHINGWAITING
From what I am seeing that looks a pretty sound boat so well worth saving. Don't let the naysayers get to you. If you have more rivets to do then think about getting a battery 'Palm Nailer'. Have someone make you suitable tools to go on the end. It will make fitting the roves and peening the rivets so much easier. (easier to do and easier on the hands). See YT channel 'Ship Happens'. As you will likely be splashing before any interior and engine then think about sticking some barrels below to fill with water. The weight should have her sitting at, or below, the waterline so all the important planks can take up.
You are both very inspirational.
You might want to reconsider your proposed caulking method. The hull should either be caulked with Oakham below the water line and cotton above.
Absolutely fabulous Wazza!
Delightful!
Good one Warren and all involved.
Bravo to all concerned.
What a beutiful boat in its day. Looking forward to seeing it restored.
This a great project! I have watched this episode multiple times. Now looking forward to the next!
Hi folks, there is (or maybe it is now ‘was’) A Derwent in a back garden in Mount Martha, south of Melbourne. I just thought that you may be interested.
Nothin' against Rhodes and Giles, etc. but those Tumlarens... <3 Nice editing!! Love the score.
Is there a part II to this?
Captain Nate would sail with Tony any old day and be glad to know him. Both extraordinary men. Thanks for this interview
If "youtube" had been round when you started, I think your channel would have resembled "Sailing Yaba" . They are building a large wood boat in Brazil and have quite a following. Big difference would be they have an old rotten boat in the way. Look forward to more stories of your adventures.
Has anyone asked Ross Muir (Manly Marine Qld) or his brothers about the Hobart race controversy?
awesome story
stunning a lovely video thanks
